TRC1991ParticipantI get that he was picked all the way down at 12, which makes him less of a risk than a guy like Tskitishvili who went 5th, but other than Fran Vasquez who never came over to the NBA and Len Bias who died, Korolev might have been the least productive lottery pick ever…He scored a grand total of 39 points in 34 career games before taking his sorry self back to Russia…
Just a brutal pick by Elgin Baylor and Mike Dunleavy…He was picked ahead of guys that still play in the league today like Danny Granger, Gerald Green, David Lee, Jarrett Jack, CJ Miles, etc.
I get that guys like Kwame Brown, Darko and Olowokandi are considered huge busts and awful picks – but all those guys played at least a few years in the NBA – Kwame in 13 – Darko in 10, Olowokandi’s tenure was shorter but he at least averaged 12 and 9 over the course of a year…Korolev was truly atrocious. A comically bad basketball player.

zolaParticipantHe was picked before Harden, Curry, Rubio, DeRozan, Jennings… Milicic at least was a servicable back up, borderline starter. Thabeet came in a league as junior, changed few well organized teams and did absolutly nothing

European BasketballerParticipantNo, he is not the worst. He actually has played in leagues like VTB League, Eurocup (2nd tier European league) and Greek League as a rotation player the last few years.
There are lottery picks that could never even make it in any European teams at all. If you compare to someone like Skita, he has had a better career as a pro player by far for example.

username_takenParticipantWhile many other guys sucked, in terms of pure production, getting 0 games out of a lottery pick is by far the worst, and how dysfunctional that whole situation was.

European BasketballerParticipantThat is mistake of team, not the player being bad. He said he did not want to play in NBA and please don’t draft him. They should never have drafted him.
But he is a very good center. He has been for many years a very good center and he would have been a very good player in NBA. It is nothing about the player. It was the stupidity of the team drafting him, because he never wanted to play in NBA and told the teams not to draft him. But Magic did it anyway.
