clutch in spaceParticipantReported by Woj.
I think Smith will definitely improve the rockets’ transition offense, the depth and overall defense. What scares me is that he will take away d-mo’s minutes and his obvious flaw, which is his shot selection.
Just when I thought the west couldn’t get any tougher…

RUDEBOY_Participantits kind of unfair that within a week the deep west have added 2 major talents like rondo & josh smith to already contending teams without giving up anything……
but houston was the team that had the most money to offer and he has a relationships with howard…
interesting to see how he and dwight play 2gether…..

username_takenParticipantWhen Terrence Jones comes back, is he relegated to the bench, and D-Mo sits at the end of the bench? Maybe they’ll trade Jones or Motiejunas soon.

juves4783Participantnot surprised. guess they are going to drop joey dorsey or tarik black to make room. shouldn’t be too bad for monty as long as terrance jones is still out. could see some trade demands coming when terrance jones is healthy though (especially considering monty wanted out last year with limited minutes behind asik, jones and howard).

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantHe can’t clear waiver till 5pm and I hope the Cavs get in the mix. If they get a 5 million dollar disabled player exemption they could offer Smoove and Ray Allen 2.5 piece.

HitsterParticipantApparently he would only consider a starting role which reduced play off contenders chasing him to Miami and Houston.
The Rockets will have an even more solid first unit now and get Smith for biannual exception of about $2 million.

Flameres15ParticipantOnly piece that worries me is his shooting. Josh Smith not only has terrible shot selection, but also will take shots away from Harden and Howard. The Rockets need to make Smith remember his Atlanta days in terms of defense and rebounding, but they also need to limit the amount of times Smith has the ball in his hands, especially when away from the rim.

Skeating12345ParticipantI think this move will turn out to be either a great move, or a bad move. The past couple years, Smith has been a cancer to whatever team he is on, settling for threes and deep two when he is at best an average shooter, resulting in very low percentages.
However, if McHale can get him to buy into his role and do what he does best (defense, rebounding, slashing and creating), then this move will make my Rockets a legitimate championship contender. Only time will tell.

GBeeParticipantI don’t see how he helps the team at all. If this results in motiejunas getting less minutes, i hope he takes the QO and they lose him. Donatas has earned that starting spot and his minutes. He shouldn’t relinquish either to one of the worst players in the league.

OhCanada-ParticipantYour a complete tool if you believe Josh Smith is one of the worst players in the league.
In Detroit he was likely the least valuable player in the league but that’s due to his large contract versus productivity, being played way out of position, and his shot selection and him not keeping his FT shooting at least around 60-70%.
If he has shot 60% ft he can do it again so that’s correctable. Houston is on pace to break the record for attempted threes so he should have much more room to work with while operating out of his most natural position PF. Also playing with Harden and Howard he won’t be taking 15 shots per game.
He is not the worst player in the league and he is still Josh Smith the multi skilled, super talented forward we loved before he got a fat contract. Terrible fit in Detroit though, just horrible.

GBeeParticipanthe’s stupid as fck and it impacts all aspects of his game. cant shoot, cant dribble. overrated man defender. has lapses in concentration which impacts his help defense. he’s lazy too. takes lazy shots, makes lazy rotations. if there was such thing as negative intangibles, he has them. dude plays like he’s on drugs.
bar none, one of the WORST players in the game. if you want to evaluate him from a basic box score or advanced stat basis, he sucks. he hasn’t done much other than make his teammates worse. even as shtty of a team as the pistons are, they were much better with him off the floor on both ends. 7 points better per 100 possessions on offense, 4 points better per on defense. the way he’s played, he should probably be joining beasley in china. i think he will soon.

chaParticipantthere goes the Rockets title chances for the next two years. I just don’t see him as a good fit with Dwight and Harden. Unless he accepts a role like being a defensive menace/rebounder and occasional low post operator, I don’t see the Rockets contending. Remember, there’s a reason why 29 other teams passed up on Smith.

joe2324Participantif your rocket fan, this is bad news. Josh Smith is like an enhanced version of JR Smith(although not as dumb) Terrible basketball IQ. Ever watch him play? Shot clock just starts and this moron is throwing up some of the worst 3 pointers. He might score 17 points on like 40 shot attempts
He’s just a clown who had some moderate success with the Hawks. Hes going to suck the life out of this team. Also, who on this team can mentor him or put him in his place? Howard? LOL

r377ParticipantJosh Smith is a cancer. If he gets starters mins (30+) in Houston, there is no way they will win a championship.
Pistons first game without Smith is a victory (no surprise there)

joe2324ParticipantI really dislike Josh Smith so I’m really pushing for the Pistons to go on a huge winning streak and the rockets to go on a 20 game losing streak.
