r377ParticipantMelo-noma vs Josh "the chucker’ Smith.
Melo was 5-21 and Smith 2-17. (can’t leave out Smith’s Partner in Crime Jennings going 2-9)
Did anyone see the game ? I only saw the boxscore, was the game worth watching ? (Monroe/KCP)

MopgrassParticipantI wouldn’t call him a cancer, but against Portland, Dion Waiters only passed 5 times in 27 minutes (3 turnovers, 4 fouls, and 0 rebounds). I’m not sure he knows that Kyrie, Love, and Lebron are better than him. It’s one game, but if I was the Cavs, he’d be my biggest concern.

Magic JordanParticipantYeah I agree, the Cavs don’t need Waiters. It seems like they should be able to flip him for a veteran 3 and D guy.

Mr. HookShotParticipantI wouldn’t call anyone a cancer to be honest… not sure how things are in the US but in my country (Netherlands) using cancer in a context like this is considered very inappropriate. To use a horrible desease like cancer to describe a bad performance in a game of basketball seems very inappropriate to me. Why not use ‘battle of chuckers’ instead if that is what you mean?

ChewyParticipanthas been a sports related idiom for decades now. It is not inappropriate here because we don’t take everything literal here.
It means he is destroying the team from the inside. What does cancer do? It destroys someone from the inside. Figurative language is figurative language. Once you understand the difference between literal speak and figurative language it will stop being "offensive" or "inappropriate."

mookieParticipantAs a pistons fan i watch all their games. This year’s team although the same as last years isn’t really the same. Josh smith did shoot terrible last night but other than 2 jumpers he was shooting in the paint. Thats what we want him to do. He’s noticably gained alot of muscle and its going to take him time to adjust his body. But MOST of the shots he missed yesterday would normally go in for him. Pistons dominated the paint and rebounds, and J smoove was a big part of that. As long as he stays in the paint he’s solid. Brandon jennings on the other hand….he’s gotta go!

King CaluchaParticipantIt was my understanding that the word cancer was used to describe players that create chemistry issues in the locker room. "Chuckers" make more sense for these on-court problems in my opinion.
