McDunkinWe all have those teams that’s captured our hearts and going into the NCAA season had us truly believing that they could make a run.
Now I know there have been thousands of these kind of teams discussed by people. I mean tons of these type of stories can start due to hype a can team can get in the pre season, from an incoming recruiting class, returning players, maybe even an encouraging run from the prior season.
Pretty much just give a team you thought would have a great season or even have won the championship but didn’t due to some sort of misfortune and also give your reason.
This can be due to:
A wrongful seeding placement,
A certain player not getting the playing time you thought he deserved
A player not being utilized correctly
A surprising injury at some point during the season
A bad call from a ref
Chris Webber called a timeout he didn’t have
You guys get the point
Since im sitting here watching this Bulls/Timbervolves game and see “Coulda been Korver” check in ill start if off by choosing a team I always loved.
The Baby Boilers of the 2007-2008 season
With the incoming class and already close friends of E’twuan Moore, Scott Martin, Robbie Hummel, and big man JaJuan Johnson)
But then Robbie got hurt(a repeat offender) and Scott transferred after that the hype was never the same for Purdue basketball again

TarHeelRavenParticipant2012 tar heels. Kendall Marshall breaks wrist against Creighton. Looked like Kentucky and north Carolina, the two most talented teams in the country were on a crash course to meet in the final four. Watching stillman white start against Kansas in the elite 8 was absolute torture.

ncballerHow about UNC last season if PJ hadn’t acted like a bonehead over the summer? That is at least an elite 8 team.

Jayhawks2011ParticipantKu Last year if Joel Embiid did not get hurt. They had a terrible defense and Joel Embiid was the only thing that made it decent. If he had stayed I believe the Kansas would have made it much further.

JoeWolf197′ Jayhawks, lost 2 games all year, but got bounced by Mike Bibby’s Arizona team.
Paul Pierce, Raef LaFrentz, Scott Pollard, Jacques Vaughn, Billy Thomas, Ryan Robertson
that was an insane lineup for a college team.

cuseflynn10Participant2009-10 Syracuse Orange
Brandon Triche averaged 8-3-2 as a freshman. Kris Joseph averaged 11-6-2 as a sophomore. Scoop Jardine averaged 9-4-2 as a junior. Rick Jackson averaged 10-7-2 as a junior. Wes Johnson averaged 17-9-2 as a junior. Andy Rautins averaged 12-5-3 as a senior. Arinze Onuaku averaged 11-5-1 as a senior. We had a great guard rotation of Jardine/Rautins/Triche. KJo was a great complimentary piece. We had our star player in Wes Johnson after he transferred and came out of nowhere. We went 30-5 that year, but could have gone further had Arinze Onuaku not gotten hurt. This team was only seven men deep to begin with, and losing Onuaku in the Big East tournament was a huge blow since we couldn’t replace him. Instead we lost in the Sweet 16 to Gordon Hayward and the Butler Bulldogs.
2011-12 Syracuse Orange
I won’t go into the stats just for times sakes but here were the top players: Kris Joseph, CJ Fair, Scoop Jardine, Dion Waiters, Brandon Triche, Fab Melo, James Southerland, Baye Moussa Keita, Rakeem Christmas, and Michael Carter-Williams. We had the depth, but as usual, Boeheim doesn’t tend to play his young players so we usually only went 7 or 8 guys deep. This season, it was literally Kentucky was 1A and we were 1B. We were destined to play in the championship game, but Melo was suspended for the start of the tourney. That would have been a matchup for the ages. Instead we lost in the quarterfinals to Jared Sullinger and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

ProudGrandpaParticipantPurdue, both in year #3 of Johnson-Moore-Hummel, when they were a top 3 team before Hummel got hurt, or the following year, when Hummel got hurt preseason.

TimeForNineParticipantRan into D-Wade into the Elite 8 who went insane (triple double), Keith Bogans had an ankle injury that slowed him down and if he had been healthy it could have changed the game. This was a team that ran the table in the SEC and SEC Tournament. Bogans hasn’t done much in the NBA, but he is a top 5 all time scorer at Kentucky and was an excellent college player.
I guess there’s that 1992 thing, but I’d rather not talk about that lol
