What college coach would you want to play for?  I would go with Shaka Smart from my alma mater VCU.  He’s a teacher, leader, and he gets his guy to play defense and play together.  From inerviews I’ve seen of him and things I’ve heard he can relate to his players and guys love playing for him.  He does SEAL training with his guys ever year which is great for mental toughness and team building.  If I played for Shaka I know I would be in the best shape of my life.  He’s turned down bigger schools and offers to stay loyal to VCU.  He’s now getting top 100 recruits and has VCU as a national power as long as he’s in Richmond.

    Coach Cal.

Run, defend, play with great players.  Get on TV and make DEEP tourney runs.  You would also be a god on campus, too.  Alumni could probably hook you up after you leave school, too.

I don’t think if I could pick any coach to play for; I’d choose a D3 school in Iowa.

I was interpreting the question as having to do more with style of play, system, and strategy than location, publicity, notoriety, etc.

     John Calipari.

Puts his players first + deep tourney runs + track record of sending kids to the Pros…i wouldnt hesistate going over there.

He just gets players to the Pros while winning at a high level.

I really don’t see why everyone who says John Calipari is getting negged. I know a lot of people hate him, but he really gets his players more exposure than any other program. If you want to have your name in the bright lights and on the big stage, you can’t go wrong with him. He’s also a proven winner and keeps a good relationship with his players after they leave his program. In my eyes you couldn’t go wrong with guys like Cal, Roy Williams, K, or Bill Self at all.

I would play for Coach K if I was a guy looking to stay all 4 years.

    Izzo if I stayed for 3 years…

Larry Brown if I stayed 2 years or less…

Not sure why so many negs for Cal. I don’t care for him, but they are a legitimate contender every year, pull big crowds and on tv a ton. I wouldn’t want to play for them, but I think if you are a really good player that is only staying one year, that might be the best place to go. Anything after a year and I think you might be testing fate with how much talent they bring in every year which I believe is partially influenced by the freshmen being told they are starting or getting X amount of minutes.

Everything in me wants to say Coach K for all the obvious reasons. Winning pedigree, one of the best bball coaches of all time (college and pro), supreme knowledge of the game..but I can’t help think how dope it would be to play for Kevin Ollie. He’s very underrated as an X’s and O’s guy and after Calipari he might be the best players coach. He seems to genuinely care about his guys.

If i actually wasnted to play basketball, and play with a phenomenal coach; I choose Duke. Coach K is a great leader as well as a phenomenal x’s and o’s guy; and you’ll get great exposure etc.

Now, If I wanted to have a great college experience, I go to ASU and play for Herb Sendek. They don’t get a lot of top level recruits, very open system – guards have a lot of freedom (Jahii Carson). Also, the women on campus are un real. Beautiful campus, and close to the beach. Sign me up.

Coach K supreme knowledge?.??? How many people drink this mans kool aid?

He’s so smart he couldnt figure out to get the ball to Jabari Parker against Mercer as his team jacked up. 3s To their own demise.

anyway, most college coaches are complete scumbags, id at least want to play for an honest crook like Calipari or Tark.

Huh?  Team USA squeaks out wins versus Spain in the Olympics.

Let’s see how he does with this current Team USA squad that is short some big names (Durant, LeBron, Love, Westbrook, Chris Paul, Blake, Paul George, etc.).

Rose, Curry, and Anthony Davis are really, really good and that, hopefully will be the focal point of the team.  I would make them my Big Three with Plumlee as their inside intangibles guy and I would put Kyle Korver as a veteran and 3 point sniper at the 3 spot.

Then go bigger off the bench with Cousins and Drummond, with some shooters too, with Klay, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden.

My last guy would be Rudy Gay as an athletic oversized wing (a poor man’s Durant/LeBron) and a close proximity to Paul George.  Great athlete who can score and rebound.  Solid rebounder, shot blocker, if a streaky shooter.  Our teams have also done well with athletic utility defenders like Iggy, so maybe Rudy can take that roll.  Rudy would give TEAM USA an ideal fourth option in small lineups with Rose/Curry at guard and Davis at center.  OR, he would give us a really long, athletic, and tough defensive front line (in big matchups) of Rudy, Davis, and Drummond.  Rudy Gay can get his own shot, can post up, and the shorter international 3 point line should help.  He has also played with 3 members of the Spanish team, both Gasol brothers and JC Navarro.

For my twelfth man, I will go with Damian Lillard.  A clutch shooter, who is not afraid of anyone.  Kind of reminds me of Nick Van Exel.  If the team wants to limit Rose’s minutes and also play Steph Curry at the 2 (which I would do), I wouldn’t mind adding another point guard off the bench.  He could even play some 2 against Spain since they go with a smaller JC Navarro at the 2.

I guess it would also be an audition for the 2016 Olympics as the last point guard spot could come down to Kyrie Irving and Damian Lillard.
