nick5354ParticipantDoes anyone feel like it is really strange Cavs are selling Jamison’s jumper? We had him for like 3 seasons in his twilight years of his career?

ExumInfernoParticipantI think it is very strange, back in the day somebody must have thought LeBron would lead the team and Jamison to the title so they put in a big order for Jamison shirts. They still have the stock, hopefully it is discounted.
When they traded for Jamison I thought he would be great for the Cavs next to James, that didn’t work though.
The Cleveland Wiggins jerseys might be collector items, for those who already grabbed the official ones, but maybe not.

BiggysmallsParticipantAre they selling Bennett or Waiters jerseys? What about John Lucas or Malcolm Thomas jerseys?
As a wolves fan, I’m trying to keep expectations low because in our franchises history, we’ve seeminly never made the right moves or had good things happen to us…so getting Wiggins would be sweet. It would be the equivalent to getting Andrew Luck as a Colts fan at the start of a new rebuild…maybe not quite as much of a home-run, but Wiggins is the best "prospect" the wolves have probably ever had.

xJumpManxParticipantWe are all hoping it will be Waiters over Wiggins but Im pretty sure you guys will get Wiggins. The trade seems to be good for both teams for where they are in terms of winning right now.

Scott42444ParticipantSo, does the Cavs fanbase seem to be VERY reluctant to let Wiggins and/or Bennett go? I am a Bulls fan and you would be surprised about the reaction here. The "rumor" was that the Bulls offered Taj Gibson, Nikola Mirotic, and Doug McDermott and quite a few REAL fans were saying "NO". Think about that for a second. The Bulls didn’t offer even 1 starter and fans were against it, for Kevin Love! But, I think it’s a case of selling ourselves on these guys because we didn’t know we had any options in the matter and then almost hyping them up too much. Mirotic will be the next Dirk and McDermott the next Bird in the eyes of some more delusional fans.
Is it the same in Cleveland? I mean…just a couple months ago it was all about Wiggins being the next Cleveland superstar to take the LeBron role and Irving becoming the best PG in the NBA and Bennett proving his rookie year was an anomaly due to early season injuries and poor conditioning, with a poor lockerroom culture from guys like Bynum and the coaching staff, etc. Now, you have LeBron. So, Kyrie is all of the sudden a #2 option. Then, you are shipping off these other "future superstars" for Kevin Love. I know Bulls fans bring up…
1) Kevin Love has never been to the playoffs, neither has Kyrie Irving. LeBron is a miracle worker but not THAT great of a miracle worker. Maybe they both are putting up empty statistics. The Bulls are adding Gasol, Mirotic, McDermott, Aaron Brooks as the 12th man, and a HEALTHY DERRICK ROSE!!! To a team that was already a #4 seed!!! So, adding all of that to a better team is more than adding LeBron and Love!!!
JUST FOR THE RECORD, my opinion falls somewhere in between all of these ridiculous extremes.
2) Kevin Love’s stats were the product of being able to do whatever he wanted to pad his stats because the team was never truly competitive in the Western Conference. Also, he was playing next to a true center, which helped his rebounding and with probably the most pass happy PG in the entire NBA. What happens when he is playing with a score first PG in Kyrie, with a wing that is also a hybrid PG/SF? Will he be able to put up those same numbers?
I’m wondering if there are similar sentiments in Cleveland? I personally think the Cavs should hang onto Wiggins, Bennett, etc. I know that is NOT a popular sentiment but I have seen as a Bulls fan what having a tight salary cap structure can do to hurt a team’s chances in the off-season. Love will opt-out and sign a max deal, with LeBron at a max and Kyrie at a max extension. That will be 75% of the cap. If the Cavs keep Wiggins and Bennett, they have them both locked into rookie scale deals for 4-5 seasons. Then, when it’s time for them to get "theirs", LeBron might be at the point of taking the Dirk type of hometown discount. Plus, the salary cap will increase. Hell, Love could probably be brought in during the 2015 off-season and the Cavs can just keep Wiggins (if he wants to go there so much). Plus, if Bennett really is the type of player that the Cavs thought he would be when the chose him #1, his trade value could net some better assets in return than he would net by himself now and the Cavs could be SCARY. Dynasty scary.
I think the Bulls should see if Shawn Marion is interested in coming back to Chicago for a vet minimum deal as the 12th/13th man on the roster. He could be limited to playing 20 minutes per game. Then the Bulls/Cavs would be seriously exciting, but I think the Bulls (I am a big Bulls fan, so please bear with my optimism here) could have Noah/Gibson on Love, Butler/Marion on LeBron, and Rose/Hinrich on Kyrie. That also leaves Pau Gasol, Mirotic, Snell, McDermott, Brooks, Dunleavy, etc. to focus on offense while making the Cavs "Big 3" work for their points. If the Cavs hang onto Wiggins, then make a run at Love in the 2015 free agency period, they would be (in 2-3 years) unguardable and able to lockdown any "Big 2/3" in the entire NBA. Which is probably why the Bulls made a half-hearted offer to the Wolves so that the Cavs are forced to actually trade for Love opposed to just getting him for a contract next summer. They also realize that having the Cleveland "Big 4" would be too much for almost any team to stop. Sorry this is so long, I haven’t been on here forever and just bought my Bulls season tickets and CAN’T WAIT for the ECF, which should be Cavs/Bulls (especially since Paul George is out for the year) unless Washington makes another huge jump.

Bmore_DCParticipant@BiggySmalls…
Kevin Garnett is the best prospect the TWolves have ever had, and probably will EVER have. Period. Dude was a phenom, and he was younger than Wiggins coming into the NBA.
With that being said, I love the trade for the TWolves. Ive always been a big Wiggins fan, i think he can be a Paul George/Kawhi Leonard kind of player if he gets a consistant jumper, which i think he will.
Rubio/Lavine/Wiggins/Bennett/Pek
Thats a pretty good foundation for a re-build, but im sure TWolves fans are tired of hearing that word. Honestly, if the trade DOES happen, i think the Wolves need to shed Martin, Pek (maybe even Rubio?) and some other big contracts for picks and cap space. Take the 76ers approach (without the drafting injured players/stashing of draft picks), and hope Lavine, Wiggins, Bennett, or one of their top picks turns into a superstar. Because, lets be honest, they arent doing ANYTHING in the Western Conference for awhile.

SnowtaParticipantI’ve heard a lot of people saying Rubio will be the next to go if this deal happens. Personally I don’t understand that at all. I would at least let him play a few years with this young core to see what happens. I mean that young core could be the perfect team to have around Rubio. I know he has his weaknesses but you put athletes like that around him and I think Runio could really elevate his level of play. Also people overlook the impact that separating Love and Rubio could have. While their games complimented each other their personalities never worked well together.

toady_buddhaParticipantGranted it seems to be a dream scenario, but I ran this through thr trade machine and it worked. Obviously it would require some adjustments, but it is a start.
Cle gets Love (their guy), Kevin Martin (loacl guy and a floor spacing shooter), and Nerlens Noel (arguably THE perfect center for this team).
Min gets Thad Young (their guy), Dion Waiters (I still think he just needs to be paired with more of a pass first PG perhaps Rubio), Anderson Varejao (top notch sub at both PF/C and an expiring).
Phi gets Wiggins (their guy), Tristan Thompson (Young’s replacement with maybe still a little upside), and Brewer (to make numbers work and an interesting piece that probably won’t cost Phi losses, but is still a good team first vet).
Maybe Bennett goes to Min, too. Maybe Dieng does to Cle, too. Obviously a little more refining would need to take place. But Cle gets their man, Min builds perhaps a more competitive overall team that is still crazy young and Phi gets some more top assets.

goddagParticipantAnother proposed trade that isn’t going nowhere. When are you people going to learn MN isn’t going to take Waiters and not Wiggins. Plus Varejao is a good friend of LJ’s so he’s not going anywhere either. Same with Dieng. Flip sure isn’t going to trade him. He loves him. Plus it came out today that Brewer is staying in MN.
Wow I can’t wait till this trade is done.0 - Posted on: Sat, 08/02/2014 - 9:31am #941986

MattP31ParticipantI’m a Sixers fan and hoping they get involved here. However anyone that thinks that the Sixers could land Wiggins in this deal is smoking something. Wiggins is the clear motivation that the Wolves send Love to Cleveland and not somewhere else. So the Wolves like Thad Young and may want to dump the Martin and/or Barea deals, even if you combine all three into the deal, there is just no way that is enough to get Wiggins.
Best case scenario for Philly is giving Thad Young and getting a Dion Waiters back and maybe having to take one of those bad deals. Probably more likely that they get Anthony Bennett and take less bad contracts back. In this deal it’s something like Wiggins and Bennett for Love then Bennett for Thad with other pieces involved in both deals to make things work

BiggysmallsParticipantBmoreDC…I agree completely with the rebuild idea. I hope Flip doesn’t try to have it both ways by dealing Love and still trying to compete. Assuming they get a decent PF like Young, the best they would be is an 8 seed and even that’s unlikely. But they wouldn’t be a bottom 3-5 team where they could get high level prospects.
Bottom line…getting Wiggins should trigger the reset button. You can sell the fanbase on a rebuild if Andrew Wiggins is at the front of it. It is as good as a start to a legit rebuild as it gets in the NBA.
KG will go down as the best Wolf of all time no question…but I guess I don’t remember how he was viewed coming out of HS. I know he was a freak, and maybe the lack of media brought down his hype, but it seems like Wiggins is as good of a PROSPECT as KG was. Not saying he’ll be that player, but he has the tools. Idk, I was like 4 when we got Garnett lol

BiggysmallsParticipant@scott….if fans in Chicago didn’t want to deal Gibson, Mirotic and Doug for Love…more power to em. Its ok to be wrong. Love is a legit top 10 player in the league. Gibson is a nice player and a good 3rd big. Mirotic is supposedly the best Euro prospect, but there are a lot of questions with him and McDermott looks like he’ll be a decent role player. I don’t see star in him and if Rose isn’t playing, I suspect he’d be a much worse player.
Love’s Wolves teams were never great, but they were also not terrible. They’ve been competitive for the last 3 seasons. Love isn’t putting up empty stats. He consistently kept the wolves competitive in games and they lost a bunch at the end of the game. It isn’t like they are down 30 in games and he’s chucking shots and filling it up in blowouts. People don’t really get that part of it.
Like most post players, Love needs perimeter guys to help him get in spots where he can score. He’s not a great ISO scorer because he isn’t athletic. So blaming him for late game failures is a flawed attitude. Blake Griffin doesn’t take over at the end of Clipper games. Aldridge doesn’t initiate offense at the end of Blazer games. These guys are put in spots where they can catch and finish. Love does that as well if not better then both. He scores in a variety of ways and doesn’t need a bunch of plays run for him to do it. In theory, he is the PERFECT robin to a Lebron or Rose because of that ability. People hate on his inability to create. If he cant create, how the hell does he average 26 ppg? He draws fouls like crazy and was a main reason why the Wolves were up near the top in FTs per game. Any casual fan knows Minnesota isn’t getting a lot of benefit of the doubt calls, yet they were taking a lot of FTs…that’s a lot to do with Love.
Chicago fans can deny that they want Love or don’t want to give up pieces for him…it makes no difference because what they are offering isn’t as good as what other teams can offer. He’d be absolutely perfect with Rose and Noah though.
