laarethekingsParticipantThe Bulls with a Rose, Noah team are a very good team. Top 3 in the east, but unless Rose plays like a MVP they most likely don’t have a shot with anyone coming out of the west. How many times can you ask your superstar to jump into a phone booth and come out with a S on his chest?
That’s why I’d trade anyone on the roster not named Rose. Noah is a very good player, but if you’re buliding a team you most likely want him as your 3rd best player, not the guy who has to be the MAN if the MAN Rose is off the floor.
If I were the Bulls I’d call Minny and offer
Noah, Gibson, McDermott and a two 1st round pick ( Salary 22,977,960 )
For
Love, Brewer and Dieng ( Salary 21,835,043 )
The trade brings the Bulls it’s second superstar but also a defenivse big man and a good wing role player. And Pau moves into the starting center role for the Bulls.
Minny gets players they can win now with or ship off to other teams for more picks, plus a another high pick in McDermott to add to the young players they already have. Plus two more first rounders to bulid the roster.

llperezif rose stays healthy, they absolutely have a shot to win the ring this year. Getting pau to play alongside noah with gibson off the bench will be one of th ebest inside trios in the whole league. And the east is as wide open as ever with miami breaking up and the pacers losing lance. even if the cavs get love, they might not be as good as last years heat.
I cant see blaming management. Heck they ate the bullet and paid boozer to leave. Tried hard for melo. Stars arent just falling off trees for anyone to aquire.

HaleParticipantYup. They might not have a trio of superstars but a frontcourt of Noah/Gibson/Gasol is probably the NBA’s best and when you have a stud PG and a couple other pieces you definitely have a chance to win it all.

llperezalso, im as much a love fan as anyone, but noah, gibson, mcdermott and two first round picks for love and throw ins? The wolves would jizz all over themselves if the bulls offered that.

IndianaBasketballParticipantBulls went after Melo and Love… Can’t say they’re not trying.
I think they’ve still had a very good off-season though.

dremill24Participanttake Noah off that team and they have no chance at a title. Yes they could use somebody who can go hey his own shot but Noah does so much on the court to nake everybody better on both sides of the ball. Trading him for Love or for most other players not named Durant or LeBron would make the team substantially worse.

Robb_CParticipantThe Bulls are clearly doing it the way the Spurs have.. if you are to blind to see that you should pay attention to some other team, I’m so glad we didnt chase melo because if it didnt work we would have been stuck in a rebuilding mode and Rose would have certainly left.. these high reward low risk pick ups are the Bull MO and they will continue to do that and build through the Draft… Rose understands this and has no gripe with it.

phila9012ParticipantYou do realize Rose wanted Pau and not carmelo. He helped them recruit pau, and they got his guy. He should be happy. Rose also looked great and doesnt seem to have lost much of his athleticism. Te bulls are shaping up to be very good and definitely have a chance to win the eastern conference. The cavs even if they get love would need to figure out how to play with each other and that could take a year until they gel and get good chemistry with each other, the heat have to work in a few new players and adjust to not playing with lebron. The pacers just lost paul george. The Bulls dont need to do anything. They look really good now and should change anything.

Scott42444ParticipantI think that Joe Cowley report in the Sun Times was a little exaggerated when it comes to Derrick NOT wanting Carmelo. It was a little different with Pau, and I think I can understand why. First of all, Carmelo is coming in with great individual honors and a college national championship to his name. But, I think it bothers Rose a bit seeing Melo’s name in the marquee wearing a Bulls jersey when he hasn’t accomplished anything. Pau comes in with 2 Championship rings AND has shown that he can adapt his game to a team concept in order to win Championships. That being said, Rose did help Carmelo’s recruitment. He just didn’t go out of his way. He didn’t for Pau either. All he did for Gasol was talk to him on the phone. If we are judging a phone call versus changing a scheduled workout from the Berto Center to the United Center and a 20 minute in person conversation, he obviously did MORE for the Melo recruitment than the Gasol recruitment. He will now go a little more out of his way to get to know Gasol now that he is a member of the Bulls, as he said he will go out to dinner in Spain with Pau.
Also, and I personally wish that Rose was more of a hardcore recruiter than he is. If he was like Noah is, who used to recruit Florida basketball AND football recruits, he would probably be the best recruiter in the NBA. That being said, does anyone really blame him for not recruiting in 2010? I wouldn’t want LeBron to come in if I were Derrick at that point either. For one, there is no way that Rose would have an MVP award. That first year that the Miami Big 3 got together, everyone seemed to think that there was too much collected talent for an MVP to be a part of that roster. Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed and LeBron won a very deserved award the following season. But should Rose have, at 23, been gung-ho about ceding "his" team to LeBron James? Should he have given up the NINE FIGURE Adidas contract that he earned in no small part by being the youngest MVP in NBA history? I don’t think anyone in their right minds would. But Rose did put in a bit of effort this time as well. It doesn’t really matter anyways. The Bulls have a chance to win an NBA title this year with the moves they have made if…
A) Rose is not only healthy, but is back to his MVP form by the 2nd half of the 2014-2015
B) Noah has as good, if not better, of a season as he had last year when he was 4th in the MVP season, 1st Team All-NBA, 1st Team All-NBA Defense, and Defensive Player of the Year and…
C) McDermott, Mirotic, and Gasol all play as well as the Bulls front office hopes they will. They won’t say it publicly, but the Bulls front office believes that Mirotic and McDermott have all-star games in their future. They believe that Mirotic is closer to Dirk than Bargnani. They believe McDermott has a chance to be a real scorer, not just shooter, similar to the dramatic improvement made by Kevin Love between his rookie year and his 3rd year (with McDermott being perhaps even closer to reaching that potential being that he is a 4 year college star opposed to just a 1 and Done like Love was). They believe that Gasol was able to put up numbers that would make him the best interior scorer the Bulls have had since Elton Brand’s 2nd year in the NBA with the Bulls, since he was able to put up impressive numbers in an offense that did not play to his strengths AT ALL and was actually the player defenses still keyed on. The also know the difference between adding a player who (like I mentioned earlier) has learned how to play a team game to win a championship versus a player with elite talent on a bad, non-playoff team. Heck, I think they are confident that Snell has a chance to be a difference maker in the league with an improved shot, stronger body, and the length and athleticism to play strong individual and team defense. I think they expect him to make a similarly large leap from his rookie to sophomore seasons as Butler did and to also have an impact similar to his high school teammate Kawhi Leonard. Not Finals MVP impact, but 2nd year Leonard impact.
LeBron is the best player in the league. Yes, Durant is the reigning MVP and unbelievable but there is a reason the entire free agent period was small planets rotating around the sun that is LeBron. But the Cavs were a non-playoff team, even though they had 2 #1 picks and 2 other Top 4 picks in Waiters and Thompson. Adding 2 more #1’s in Wiggins (and James technically) will make them talented. Trading for Love, another elite statistical player who hasn’t played a single post-season game, will make the Cavs a good team. But the Bulls should be the favorites with all of the players they have added and STILL have assets (Top 10 protected Sacramento pick in 2015/2016/or 2017, and a pick swap with Cleveland, meaning they get the better pick between theirs and the Cavs) to make a run at available players at the deadline.

Chicago radio and print media is exposing Derrick lately. Not protecting him anymore. Derrick doesnt wanna play w anyone that would threaten his king’s status on the team.

Scott42444Participant…that is echoed throughout Chicago sports radio non-stop. Also, after free agency died down, most of the talking heads hosting sports radio have started to FINALLY take the Bulls front office’s side. The Bulls went strong after Carmelo Anthony. He seriously considered coming to Chicago even though they weren’t even offering him close to a max contract (although the Bulls let it be known that they would have traded Taj Gibson if that was the sticking point for Carmelo). The Bulls are in the mix to get Kevin Love. Kevin Love hasn’t made the playoffs once in his entire career. Noah has led the Bulls to the playoffs every year he has been the starting center. The Bulls obviously are high on Mirotic and McDermott. Trading them away for Love would be okay. Giving away Noah is just stupid. He was 1st Team All-NBA last season. You are acting like he is a role player. Not to mention the Bulls are always in the mix due to their defense and the DPOY getting shipped out for a PF who hovers around the 3-point line makes ZERO sense. Who started this thread? Reggie Rose? Derrick’s brother who said the same thing two seasons ago when Derrick sat out the whole season even though he was cleared to play in February? First of all, the idea that Noah is "overvalued" by the Bulls and Bulls fans has to finally stop. Paul George and Lance Stephenson aren’t going to be available to the Pacers this season, but they still have a defensive minded All-Star center and a defensive minded team and coach. Does anyone think they will finish as the #4 seed this year? No. Most seem to think they will end up outside of the rather weak Eastern Conference Playoffs. Then how can the Bulls make it to the playoffs as a #4 seed last season without Rose and Deng, their Top 2 leading scorers? Noah obviously is just a defensive minded all-star center on a defensive minded team with a defense first coach, right?
The Bulls organization has done everything they can to put a loaded team on the court. In 2010, they went after Lebron, Wade, and Bosh. They had room to add all 3 because they DID have a trade lined up for Luol Deng. They could have had a starting lineup of Noah, Bosh, James, Wade, and Rose. That didn’t happen, as Wade was obviously trying to help out the organization he was drafted by and moving from Cleveland to Chicago isn’t as exciting as moving from Cleveland (basically the ONLY place LeBron had ever lived in his life, Akron or Cleveland) to Miami. As a matter of fact, name the last free agent "coup" that directly led to an acquired superstar equaling a championship. Shaq? That took Kobe turning into a Top 10 all-time player and the best coach in team sports history for that to happen as well. The Bulls tried to add Joe Johnson as well, but the Hawks offered a ridiculous mega-max contract (that the Nets somehow gave up assets to the Hawks to acquire, which shocked many in the NBA community), with Boozer, Korver, Brewer, Watson, Asik, etc. So, they settled on "Plan C", without an all-star SG, and added Bogans (who is statistically the worst 82 game starter in franchise history) and STILL made it to the ECF. Then they added Rip Hamilton and the Bulls looked like they could have challenged the Heat better than they did in the 2011 ECF but Rose got injured.
Name one other team that can lose 2 of their 3 all-stars off and on over the course of the last 3 years and still be a title team? The answer is none of them. The Bulls lost Rose and Noah when they lost to Philly, they lost Rose and Deng when they lost to Miami, they lost Rose and traded Deng when they lost to Washington (with Noah needing knee surgery right after they were eliminated). Miami could not have lost any 2 of their 3 all-stars and been to the Finals.

DS LewisParticipantRose was great in the past, but really his fate controls the Bulls right now. If he produces and shows a willingness to have another star alongside him then it will greatly increase the Bulls chances of upgrading their roster by attracting better free agents or stars trying to force a trade to Chicago because he is so awesome.

ExumInfernoParticipantD Rose is getting paid like the MVP, and he isn’t playing. He should be happy that the team has so many good pieces to surround him with.
Offense, defense, passing from Noah and Gasol. Then defense off the bench with Gibson. Rose can gamble for steals and it won’t matter as the shot blockers are there.
Rose will have the floor spread, with all the shooters there with Dunleavy, McDermott and others. Butler and Hinrich can defend, and score.
If Mirotic is a star, Chicago are suddenly the best team in their conference.
The team has a great coach, is unselfish, works hard, if the Bulls don’t have a huge season it will be due to Rose, his health or his play, as the Bulls do have all the right players around Rose to make him a success.
