In that I mean is Anthony Davis going to be a player who averages great numbers and has a big impact on the games but not being able to make the playoffs in the brutal west? I don’t see the Pelicans being a playoff calibar team yet and feel like they lack a good enough #2 option to help AD get there.

The Hornets have a solid team. They just traded for Omer Asik, he should compliment Davis very well. If their trio of guards (Jrue, Tyreke and Gordon) can step up, they will have a shot at the 8th seed. Monty Williams is a pretty good coach too so another season of improvement from Davis and the rest of the young guys and they should do pretty well.

When I read the subject, I thought you where comparing their games. They are pretty similar players offensively but Davis is in a hulleva better situation than Love has even been in.

Kevin Love isn’t a defender, and lacks intangibles to win (possibly).  He also has more range than Anthony Davis.

I see Anthony Davis as more of a all-around scorer (who should be able to expand his range), rebounder, shot blocker, and a guy with intangibles.  Who about a shorter version of Tim Duncan?  Or a rich man’s Chris Bosh?

I think Davis has more leadership, defense, and intangibles than Kevin Love but without Kevin Love’s 3 point shot.

PEAK Anthony Davis sounds like a two way MVP candidate.  24-25 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals.

Out west, who knows who will make the playoffs year in and year out?

If I am a team like the Cavs I think I would rather trade for Anthony Davis.  Davis would have a bigger impact at center, and can also play some center.  Irving, Waiters, Wiggins, LeBron, and Anthony Davis is a video game team.

That’s a legitimate question.  I think in a couple of years we will be talking about him being the best player in the NBA and on the planet, he has that much potential.  It really depends obviously on how the Pelicsnd build around him.  Eric Gordon has to stay healthy and they brought in Holliday to supplement the disaster of Austin Rivers running the point.  They have some good pieces and I’d say Davis is in a much better situation than Love was in Minny.

The Pelicans have alot more talent then most of the Timberwolves teams had. At this point it is about harnessing and structuring that talent to get the most out of the young players on the team. The rotations need to be sound and Williams will have to show alot pf discipline in maintaining his structure and rotations.

First off neither Evans or Gordon should be playing SF. Evand needs to buy into playing a sixth man role. When Evans is on the court at the SG position Anderson should be on the court as well to make up for the lack of shooting. That way when they go small up front they can match that in the backcourt with size to make up for it and match it in the front with shooting and range. Same goes for Gordon and Asik.

Austin Rivers serves as a good reserve in case of injuries in the backcourt. At SF they have a glaring hole with just Alonzo Gee which will likely make Evans play that position. I think they desperately need a glue "3 and D" guy there like a PJ Tucker. That would really solidify my percieved rotation.

They threw cash at talwnt and have decent pieces that match well on paper but Monty Williams needs to establish a system and the players need to buy into the system. I think if there is not progress this year and they dont at least fight for a playoff birth jobs will be lost.

I have to laughe a little when people talk about who Anthony Davis will be at his peak and they say numbers like 25 12 and 3. Do people not understand that as a super skinny 20 year old he put up 21, 10 and 3? With a little bit of muscle and a little more polish, why can’t he be 30, 15, and 4? I know those numbers are basically unheard of, but we’ve never seen his skill set before and it’s not like he’s really that far from it. Look at his stats last year AGAIN, as a 20 year old!

30/15/4? Dude, those are better numbers than Hakeem, David Robinson, or any other great modern era big in their prime.  Simmer the expectations, 30/15/4 isn’t going to happen.  He’s a great player with crazy upside, but those #’s are unreasonable.

I think people should take that into consideration before declaring anything negative or positive about New Orleans…  Eric Gordon missed games, Jrue missed a ton of games (48), Ryan Anderson played in 22 games last year…  Anthony Davis missed almost 20 games and Tyreke missed around 10…  That’s your main guys gone to injury…  They wasn’t able to play together and gel…

Someone mentioned who would you rather have today…  Blake, Love, or Aldridge…  I would rather have Anthony Davis…  I can make up what he doesn’t provide offensively elsewhere…  Which is maybe 5-6 points, but he shoots an efficient 52% on 15 shots while not dominating in the paint (yet)…  Now defensively he’s damn near light years better than all 3 combined…  I rather have AD as my starting PF today and don’t see the drought that is Kevin Love in the playoffs…

I don’t know if he has the same passing skills as him but a better comparison is Kevin Garnett. I’ll say this much also, the Pelicans have alot of good talent on that team right now. Not saying that they are gonna be contenders but I wouldn’t be shocked if they end up with about 46-49 wins this year. Just need to find a way to flip Eric Gordon for good pieces.

I see Davis having a Kevin Garnett type career.  Will be a premier star, have monster years statisically, and probably make the playoffs here and there for the most part but never win a championship until he leaves New Orleans or they team him up with another super star and a solid cast.

By the time he is Love’s age, he should have had more team success.  And he is even more productive than Love at the same age.

Yes, Davis is unfortunate to be stuck on a poorly managed franchise, but the Pelicans have some talent.  They could contend for the 8th seed this season.  If the team makes intelligent roster moves from now on and makes the most of their few draft picks in future years, they could become a nice team.  A Holiday-Evans-FA Signing-Davis-Asik lineup could be pretty good, with Ryan Anderson being one of the best 6th men in the league.

The Pelicans will have a shot at the playoffs if they can stay healthy. IF they’re healthy and don’t make it, then Monty Williams needs to be fired. Dell Demps needs to be fired as well.

As far as Anthony Davis goes, I don’t think he’s learned how to make his teammates better at the offensive end yet. He’s still not a guy you can give the ball to, draw double teams and he’ll get shots for teammates. Defensively, he’s a stat sheet stuffer, but still struggles to hold his ground in the post. He’s also still learning where to be consistently. I’ve read he’s bulked up, so he should be much improved defensively.

I’m interested to see the improvements he’s made this summer.

Is any USA basketball games being played this summer like last year white vs blue?  I always look at those games to see what young player added things to their game over the summer…

For the sake of the OP Ill try bit harder to awnser the question but first Ill try to rephrase the question. First Ill break down the different types of superstars of which I feel there are 6 types for this conversation.

Superstar that stays with team and wins nothing.

    -Karl Malone

Superstar that stays with team and wins.

    -Tim Duncan

Superstar that leaves team and wins.

    -Kevin Garnett

Superstar that leaves team and wins nothing.

    -Allen Iverson

Superstar that leaves team and wins with multiple teams.

    -Shaquille Oneal

Superstar that leaves team and wins then returns to that team.

    -Lebron James

Basically the OP is asking if he stays with New Orleans or leaves in pursuit of a championship similar to what Love is doing now. So the question ends up being will New Orleans compete for a Championship or win while Davis is there to keep him happy.

I would say NO has alot of talent but with the current roster I doubt they make a championship run. I also doubt they recruit other stars so they can compete but stranger things have happened. So I would say yes he will end up like Kevin Love and try to make the Kevin Garnett move to win a championship on a contender. I think it is more likely he leaves NO then it os he winz a championship with NO.

    New Orleans Pelicans – 2011-12 – 21 wins

    New Orleans Pelicans – 2013-14 – 34 wins

They have improved 13 games with Davis in a Pelicans uniform.

    Minnesota Timberwolves – 2007-2008 – 22 wins

    Minnesota Timberwolves – 2009-2010 – 15 wins

It took the Wolves until Love’s 6th year to top 13 games over their record before his rookie year.

There really doesn’t seem to be much basis for comaring Davis to a player who it took a long time to drasticly improve his team. There are obviously other factors, but the Pelicans are improving, something it took the Wolves about 5 years to do, with Love in town.
