NCarmean18ParticipantThis would be a very intriguing trade, as it would almost ensure a Sacramento lineup of Isaiah Thomas (If they don’t let him walk) – Ben McLemore – Rudy Gay – Josh Smith – DeMarcus Cousins.
There is a lot of talent and potential there, however, there is also a good chance at some very inefficient offense and very little defense being played. I like that Sacramento are trying to look at the bigger picture and surround their superstar with premiere talent, but I just don’t know if this is the type of talent that wold mesh well together in Sacramento.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantI think they could absolutely make it work, but they have to push the pace. They’d have poor spacing in the half-court offense, but that team on the break is unstoppable. Smith is a great shot blocker, Cousins is a great rebounder/outlet passer, so they could create transition opportunities. Word is that they’re still trying to move that 8th pick and Brandon Knight is a target (they don’t want to pay a big $ amount for Thomas and may let him walk depending on offer sheet)
But they’ve also been after Rondo for a few years now and they think having Smith and Gay, both of whom he’s good friends with, could help sell him on SAC.

WhodunitParticipantThis is the best the Kings can come up with?? Arent they an Analytics Franchise? Shouldnt they be running away from the thought of this? Josh Smith + Rudy Gay Makes Demarcus a very angry Big man.

HitsterParticipantIf the Pistons effectively get their draft pick back via this deal it’s a great move for them and gives them a shot at one of the 2nd tier guys in the draft.
Josh Smith being able to play his favoured PF role would be a good fit for the Kings and alongside DMC would create a awkward frontcourt duo to match up against. DMC would create issues inside allowing Smith to play at mid range but not having to rely on his perimeter shooting as much as when he has to play SF.
My only issue would be if Smith comes on board it would push the Kings close to luxury tax unless they send significant salary to Detroit.

For_Never_EverParticipantCan anyone think of a good fit for Josh Smith because I can’t ?

WhodunitParticipanthe wud thrive in an up-tempo style offense and defending the pf on D… Houston is a good fit (but not for that much money). Phoenix, Cleveland, Washington, Warriors and Dallas… But again not for $15M a season for the next 3 seasons.

KHAM83ParticipantIt looks like it’s Derrick Williams and Thompson for Smith, not the 8th pick. Sacramento would then try to ship 8 to Boston for Rondo. They are hoping Smith would make them more attractive to Rondo, since they are very good friends. Reports are their pick for Rondo was turned down bc Rondo said he wouldn’t resign there.

dborlackParticipantI’ve heard a different rumour that was Jason Thompson and Derrick Williams for smith which would make more sense for both squads. But then again I also heard Thomas 8th mclemore for rondo.
making them rondo gay smith cousins + McCallum outlaw Gray acy Evans Landry
they ru need a few sgs to have a solid squad maybe possible free agent additions of sefolosha and Meeks ?

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantDoes this mean that Detroit is starting ? Because they are Not paying Monroe what he wants in a extension and will probably trade him too for picks sometime this season if not on draft night.

Mad MaxParticipantI’m not trading the 8th pick for an inefficient (yet very talented player) who is terribly overpayed. Seriously, that contract makes Smith pretty much realisticly untouchable. Also he’s already 28, I really doubt Smith gets much better, what you see is what you get.
Also that top comment on that link nails it perfectly. "Most talented terrible team in history"

celtics1982ParticipantRondo would be the key to getting Cousin, Gay and Smith to work. I really like what the kings would look like with Rondo and Smith. I’d have to think Rondo would agree to at least give the Kings a chance if they also got Smith. Also Rondo and Smith are above average defenders which would really help the Kings. Question is what does Boston want for Rondo? Are they going to trade him?
