JCliff24ParticipantArticles are popping up on waitingfornextyear.com as well as CBSsports.com (on my phone can’t post link) that Jabari may have tanked his Cavaliers workout. The article said Cleveland intended on using Parker as a SF, one problem, he weighed in at 255 pounds. So if he’s 6’8 255 and too slow to guard the SF position and too short to play PF Why is he not getting the tweener title like the Derrick Williams/Anthony Bennett. Is he that established as a scorer that he just bipasses that dreadful word, tweener?

Memphis MadnessParticipantTHANK YOU!
He can’t decide what he is. Obviously a 6’8 solidly built guy would be an ideal size to play the 3, BUT he is looking more like a tweener power forward.
Tweener forwards might not be the best guys for the NBA, even if they did dominate in college (Jabari didn’t exactly dominate the ACC though), or even go on to have good NBA careers.
Too many Corliss Williams and Derrick Williams out there. Even Big Dog Glenn Robinson had some all-star years but he never DOMINATED. He was a volume scorer who could shoot ok and rebound at a decent clip.
I think he could fall.
If Wiggins goes at 1, why wouldn’t Exum be a possibility at 2? Philly could go with Embiid, then Parker goes to either Orlando at 4 or Utah at 5. Utah would be really happy with that, but Jabari’s agent wouldn’t be.
Yeah man, it’s kind of shocking that we are talking about a "top 3" lock a few days before the draft, and we aren’t even sure what he is. It’s like Julius Randle saying, yeah, I played well at power forward in high school and college, but I REALLY see myself as a CENTER. It’s just a whole different scenario now…
To me, the only team who could get excited about POWER FORWARD Jabari (as opposed to 110% Hype Jabari) would be the Utah Jazz.
Heck, maybe he WANTS to fall to 5.

MisterMordenParticipantParker is coming to the Sixers at 3, watch !
Cavs take Wiggins at 1. And Bucks take Exum (or Smart, but most likely, Exum) at 2.
Parker is tanking these other teams workouts on purpose.

DukeDaSquadParticipantWell he is 6’9" and has a 7 foot wingspan. I get that he’s 255 pounds, but he is not in ideal nba shape. He is working on it though. He has the length and size to play the pf position, and when he slims down more, he will be in good enough shape to play the small forward. He probably will start the season at around 240 or lower which is a great playing weight for him.

LindseyParticipantWhere is the reason for Jabari’s weight gain unless it is him thinking it will help him bang??? He hasn’t been injured, he has been going to workouts. He just thinks that it will seriously help him being that big. This makes me questionhis IQ, which everyone praises him for.
Bennett was injured when he ballooned in the offseason last year, but he still kept trying to say it was for the best for his game to take that pounding at around the same size Parker is. We all saw how that turned out, and Bennett really only had his few good games after he slimed down to probably even under his college days.
Parker is screwing himself over pretty heavily with this PF/weight gain game.

Memphis MadnessParticipantMaybe he WANTS to fall to 5 (Utah) or even Boston/LA at 6 and 7.
Maybe this really is the 1983 Draft and Jabari is the new Antoine Carr.

tidhoParticipantI think he is getting the tweener label. I haven’t seen a write up on him yet that suggests he’ll be able to guard NBA SFs, and most go on to mention that its not coaching but rather physical limitations. He’s a classic tweener, and in that sense very similar to Anthony Bennett….which is why i don’t expect him to go #1.

mopoParticipantTweener usually gets assigned to guys who will have trouble guarding 3 for speed and 4 for size.
I think Jabari is talented enough that you can see it as, too big for 3s to guard and too crafty for 4s to stay with.
In other words, he is the mismatch, not the other way around.

Magic JordanParticipantThat’s conflicting from what came out a week or two after the combine when the word… and the video potsed by CityLeaugeHype had him looking a lot slimmer. I remember then people were saying that he was already losing weight, and on a better eating plan and yada yada yada. I wouldn’t trust anything said these last couple of days until we get to draft night.

hawkmanParticipantAgreed. He looked much slimmer in his workout video than he did at Duke. He looked every bit the part of an athletic SF. How did he gain so much weight so fast?

imAboutDatActionParticipantHe didnt really look slim in that video.
His black shirt gave alittle illusion of him being slimmer, but he still looked the same as he did the whole year.
The scale doesnt lie. 255 is just too much for him, its not much LBM, just all fat.

0- Posted on: Mon, 06/23/2014 - 9:31am #924928

DolanCareParticipantMy thoughts exactly. There is no freaking way Jabari is 255. He’s a little doughy but 255 is heavier than Lebron, the man who is 6 inches deep of muscle. I’m always skeptical of weight listings in the draft and NBA players. I remember during Linsanity announcers were declaring that Jeremy Lin was 240 lbs, which is beyond absurd.
IMO weight figures are subject to the telephone game in NBA circles. One scout says he’s 220, then someone else whispers 227, and before you know it reporters are screaming 255 lbs. I call BS.

The scale dont lie. Cavs have no reason to lie about his weight.
Hilarious people dont wanna hear the truth.

nill650Participantit doesnt matter cleveland doesnt want parker really anyway, its all bolonga.
he doesnt fit their need at all if he is a 4 in the nba. Bennett already proved he is a stretch 4 not a 3 like brown hoped. Parker is a undersized pf who can score just like bennett and may have some success offensively at the 3 alongside irving and waiters, but really doesnt provide much new offense and doesnt provide any defense.
I’d see cavs taking wiggins to play the 3 for this defense and points created by his defense over parker and his scoring ability.

TarHeelRavenParticipantHe just has one of those bodies that will gain weight easily. He’s 19 and he’ll only lose his metabolism as he gets older. I can understand about him having to weigh more at Duke because he needed to play in the post more, but there is no reason why he should be fat now. All that free food you get as an NBA player, he’ll need to be very careful and watch his diet. There is no way he is 255. I’d guess around 240 and I think an IDEAL playing weight would be 230 for him.

AstroParticipantC’mon, he clearly lose weight in that video. He looked like he was in the low 230s range.
All of a sudden he’s at 255?
Whatevs. A lot of maneuvering last week of the draft by different parties.

GrandmamaParticipantBecause he isn’t a tweener. I’ve actually seen lists classify him as a PF, which is absurd. He’s clearly a SF, there really isn’t any debating that. And I highly doubt he weighed in at 255. His playing weight will be around 225-230. He’s being compared to Carmelo for a reason. They have very similar games and they are both isolation, scoring SF’s. The PF talk is just flat out head scratching. Obviously a SF.

nill650Participantthat is why hes being considered a pf prospect. and you are correct his skillset offensively screams sf but he is rendered to playing the stretch 4 becuase of his lack of elite atheticism which has become the standard for the sf position. at least for successfull ones.

tuck243ParticipantGo watch majority of his games this year, hell even the highlights and tell me if he’s not a SF? He’s not a fawking tweener… That’s absurd… Were you not watching him in open court this year? Crossovers behind the arc? Step backs? The way he look with the ball was SF… Playing out of position in college got some of y’all brains fried… He’s also 6’9… With BETTER handles than some of the SG’s in this year draft… You can go look at Derrick Williams highlights and see he’s a PF that can play some minutes at the 3 as a spot up guy… Jabari? He can get his own shot consistently… Show me one PF/SF tweener like that?
Im im sorry but that just made me mad…
Also, if he’s 255 lbs now, then he was that same weight at Duke… He looked slimmer in the workout video so who knows what’s true or not… Melo looked chubby the last few years, I wouldn’t be surprise if he’s 250 as well… Because truthfully I don’t know what 6’9 230 lbs should look like…

JNixonParticipantThere is no tweener talk because he is a true SF. Only way he’ll play PF is in a small-ball type lineup. He has all the tools to play SF in the NBA, exclusively if chose to as well.

thunderjerkParticipantThe doubt of position seems to come more on the defensive end of the floor: too heavy to guard small forwards, not tall enough to guard power forwards.

nill650Participantboth wiggins and embiid fill a greater need in levland than parker.
I doubt if you here parkers name called at 1 he’s wearing a cavs hat very long.. If he is, than there is probably alot more trades involving other members of that roster going down tonight.
