because all the talent in that draft and he was selected number 2 behind LeBron and ahead of a bunch of starters, All-Stars, some Super Stars, and nice role players.

The thing that blows my mind about Shelden going 5th to the Hawks was that I saw that coming a mile away. I remember prior to the draft there were reports that the Hawks had given him a promise at 5, and I was like wtf? I know I’ve been wrong plenty of times, but when I see a pick that bad, and I turn out correct, it makes me question the Hawks managemnt big time.

I’m not gonna lie, when those drafts were being made, I thought those were solid picks. It was’nt until I saw them play in the NBA before I knew those guys were bad picks. Hindsight is always 20/20. But with Shelden, I knew that was a mistake immediately, so it makes it seem even worse in my eyes.

The title says enough, but how many, deep down, could see this happening? I never really excepted him to be a superstar but his career is terribe so far

Give the guy some credit… he has his life made… Makes a nice salary, AND is married to Candace Parker… who is the WNBA’s Lebron James…

Are you really a bust if you’re injured, it had nothing to do with his actual playing ability and he was OK as a rook, around 12 ppg isn’t horrible.

There is no question it has to be Darko. Bosh, Wade, Carmelo, all picked AFTER him! 3 franchise players passed for this guy, he’s got to be the biggest bust in history.

But what did I know I thought they should have taken Eddy Curry back then and he aint much, but he better than brown. Darko was real bad cuz Melo was a beast a guarantee allstar. Shelden Williams was not a prospect really at all too me. Damn 5th maybe late 2nd round at best.

Brown/Curry and Melo/James/Milicic were in different drafts. Not sure if that was part of your point or not. Based on how high he went, how close his team was to winning and talented players passed-up, Milicic was a collasal flop. One of the biggest of all times. Dumars is a very good GM, but he sure blew it there. Pistons couldn’t resist his potential, and didn’t think they needed a guy like Melo, but in hindsight, it was brutal. In my opinion, the costliest draft day mistake of the last few years.

I would’nt put Love on the bust list. Dude was one of the most slept on rookies last year. He led all rookies in double doubles and rpg.And he did’nt even play that many minutes compared to a lot of rookies. He will be very solid. I just read an article today where the Wolves said he is darn near untouchable as far as all the trade talk was concerned.

to me isn’t a bust because his first season was a good season as a rookie and the second was taken by injuries, this past season he had his chance, but he was inconsistent and I know because I checked the box score for him almost every game while with the Bobcats and he would score 15 then 3 then 14 then 0-6 shooting. He just needs to have consistent minutes and a coach who believes in him unlike Brown who would pull him quickly or change it up.

It’s far too early to make a real judgment call but Greg Oden is quickly shaping up to be the biggest draft bust not only in recent memory, but perhaps of all time. This is a guy that only received the top comparisons. I heard Tim Duncan, I heard Bill Russell, I heard David Robinson. There was only few that said he wouldn’t be a dominant big man, the rest of assumed his game would carry over to the NBA with some degree of ease. Instead, we see his fouls per game giving his points per game a little run for it’s money. Entering his third year in the league, Oden has accomplished nothing, and has been only half the player we expected him to be by this point. Provided, his 8.9 ppg, his 52.4% from the field, 7.0 rpg and 1.1 bpg were not bad for a guy who only played 21 minutes a game. He averaged a foul nearly every five minutes though, wasn’t the defensive presence we had imagined, and was more offensively raw than we’d seen in college. Could he develop? Absolutely. Could he still become one of the league’s premier big men? Absolutely, though there are far more doubts than in 2007 when he took the podium and shook David Stern’s hand.

Sam Bowie, arguably the most notorious draft bust of all time, developed more quickly than Oden (though coming into the league at 23 years old.) In his first season he averaged 10 a game, 2.7 blocks, and 8.6 rpg. Injuries derailed his, at one time, promising career and they may derail Oden’s development as well.

To be the biggest bust though, you have to factor in opportunity cost. Is Greg Oden Kevin Durant’s Sam Bowie? In two years Kevin Durant has won the rookie of the year award, and looks like one of the best young scorers to ever come into the league. He’s 20 years old and he’s over 25 points per game. Not only that, but his game improved by leaps and bounds in his second season, when he improved in every major statistical category except for blocks. His game evolved in only two years in the league and if he puts on more weight he could be one of the best all-around scorers of all-time when all is said and done.

Greg Oden’s third year is a crucial one. The Blazers should have a chance in the West, especially if they’re able to bring Hedo to Portland. Oden may shine in the spotlight, or he may further his downward spiral to being one of the most memorable busts in NBA history.

I would like to see him get it going, but his confidence looks shot. Plus, if the Lakers resign Ariza, I don’t know how many minutes will be available for Morrison. The only way he can succeed is if he is aggressive and plays like he did at Gonzaga. If the shots don’t fall then so be it, I guess he was’nt meant to be special in the NBA. But if he is hesitant, then he definitely has no chance.

how the hell do u draft someone numbe 2 and NEVER play them, imo in that situaion ur just bound to fail the talent is stil there cant deny it bu he is only what 23 and he still is developing and he needs atleast 1 yr of being a starter to show his talent,which he has alot of

Shelden Williams face looks so small yet he could pull someone like CP3 a.k.a Candace Parker, I mean seriously…Anthony Parker how could you let your sister fall for such a bum?
