OhCanada-ParticipantHow good can a core group of Lowry, Derozan, Ross, Johnson, and Valanciunas be by the 2015 offseason. I ask this because the only players under contract for that year is Derozan, Ross, Valanciunas, and Novak at only $21-Mil. Assuming the Raptors resign Lowry and Johnson for $15-$20-Mil the Raps will stillvhave a ton of money to offer a great player and still have money left to offer to meaningful role players with the cap increase.
How good can they be and who would they target? Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson, Tristan Thompson will all be RFA’s. Parsons likely a UFA.

Land of GrantParticipantIt’s a strange situation b/c their lineup is filled with solid starters, but to make the leap they need an established star, who would end up displacing a worthy player no matter what position he played.
They’ve got a really good group of role players, Patterson, Vasquez, Salmons, Hayes, Hansbrough, and Novak, two developing young guys who could be stars in Val and Ross, and a couple all-star caliber dudes in DeMar and Lowry, as well as a terrific gap-filling big in Amir Johnson. One superstar would put them over the top. Kevin Love seems worth a shout, but I imagine Toronto would remind him unfavorably of Minnesota. He’s an LA boy.
I wouldn’t waste time with solid starter players who won’t put them over the top, like Parsons and Tristan Thompson. They’ve got enough of those guys.

Rip255No stars are going to Toronto.
The last time the Raptors attracted a superstar, Jesus was playing Point Guard for Jerusalem

omphalosParticipantI don’t know, it depends on how good Valanciunas can be and whether Terrence Ross can be more consistent with his offence by then. I think DeRozan is about as good as he’ll get but will improve marginally in that time.
At any rate, if Wiggins turn out to be the superstar everyone thinks he is and Toronto can keep making the playoffs then he might join them as a free agent and Ross, Wiggins and Valanciunas could form a championship-winning trio.
