ReactionParticipantI know this is probably a really stupid question.. but do teams take into account what players say about where they like to play. For example, I remember reading that Andrew Wiggins wanted to play for Toronto at one point in his career since he’s Canadian and wants to play for the only team that is in Canada. Does anyone know if NBA teams take this into account and allow it to affect whether they draft him or not? Obviously, he won’t fall strictly because of it.. but do you think that teams may worry that once he gets into free agency he will bolt? I know that there are a ton of factors that go into a player’s and team’s decisions, but has there been anything like this in the past that has occurred. Its been a question that has been on my mind for a while lol.. I personally love Wiggins and watching him play. His athleticism is amazing.

Lotto StudParticipantIt’s not a stupid question at all! You have to think some athletes get tattoos of their favorite pro teams before they make it to that level.

XYRYXParticipantI believe a long time ago in the 60 or something there have been more local oriented drafts been went trough. It was not common to join a college across the country but you played in your hometown or nearby and had a completely different relationship to your college place. I believe there have been promises made to players from local teams to players who went to hometown colleges.
I’m not so shure if that’s big of a deal anymore to be open to attend college somewhere else and get used to not be in your hometown anymore.

omgitscoreyParticipantPierce was a diehard Lakers fan growing up. He would have loved to play for LA.
Boston drafted him anyways
Turned out pretty well, I’d say.
