CavFanPRParticipantTrade #1: Cleveland – Rockets
Cleveland trades: Varejao & C.J. Miles
Houston trades: Asik, Motiejunas & first round pick
Cleveland needs a big man that can protect the rim and Asik fits the bill. Motiejunas is a solid prospect and the cavs could actually give him more minutes after trade #2 (see below) goes through (just an idea). Varejao fits next to Howard and could either start or come off the bench as Howards back up. C.J. is the shooting swingman they’ve been looking for. Keep in mind that Houston will have a hard time trading Asik and his contract shoots up to 15 mil next season.
Trade #2: Cleveland – Raptors
Cleveland trades: Dion Waiters, Tristan Thompson, Alonzo Gee & first round pick
Toronto trades: DeRozan & Landry Fields
Cleveland gets to upgrade their shooting guard spot. They take Fields contract in the process to sweaten the deal to go along with a first round pick. Toronto gets two young prospects with potential and a first round pick to help their rebuild.
Additional trade idea: Cleveland – Magic
Cleveland trades: Dion & Tristan
Orlando trades: Afflalo
I prefer trade #2 but this one could work as well. Don’t know if Afflalo is an upgrade over Dion at this point but at least he has size to defend long 2’s.
Thoughts?

MikezParticipant#1 rockets are giving up too much
#2 cavaliers are giving up too much
#3 cavaliers are giving up too much
I could see #1 happening but with Motiejunas out of the picture

torontoraptors10ParticipantFire Mike Brown. That should be the first move the Cavaliers do. What was Dan Gilbert thinking about bringing him back??

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantDan Gilbert before the season had to basically apologize for firing him in the first place and say he made a mistake. He doesn’t like admitting he made a mistake and barely did about the Lebron rant. I believe he fired Grant because he rehired Mike Brown. Firing Grant cost say……. 2 million and firing Brown will cost 20 million guaranteed. Not to mention they are still paying paying Byron Scott 4.5 million dollars to be the coach this year. Chris Grant extended the extra year option on his contract option prior to last season without it being a necessary move.
Chris Grant wasn’t fired for bad drafts or trades it was for his coaching hires.

torontoraptors10Participant"Brian Windhorst: Dan Gilbert is neighbours with Joe Dumars and has a very high opinion of him. Detroit Sports 105.1 – See more at: http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm#sthash.lTWoGndB.dpuf" Now Dan Gilbert wants to hire another questionable GM if Dumars gets fired?! What is Dan Gilbert doing? It seems like he is hiring people that he is friends with. Why not hire someone who can do the job properly?

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantDoes Joey D sends Cleveland some love before the deadline with a wink wink like Jerry West did with Memphis and the Lakers for Gasol?
0- Posted on: Sat, 02/08/2014 - 7:31pm #869939
jsmitty104Participantthat lucked into Drummond. Let’s see what happens. Joe D may not get fired if he trades Monroe for some better fitting pieces and makes the 5th or 6th seed.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantI got a feeling that Jsmitty may be J Smith. No matter what Joe trades Monroe for he will get fired becuase Monroe at 15 million a year is better than Josh Smith at 15 million a year.
Miami would (should) trade Chris Bosh for Greg Monroe,IMO. Anything less than a top 7 pick or an borderline All Star under 27 is a bad deal for Greg Monroe. Utah would give Favors in a heart beat or at least they should give Favours for Monroe.

jsmitty104ParticipantHaha. Joe D wants to win. Monroe is good but plays no D. Josh Smith and Drummond are bad asses together. They just need some 3 and D. No more slow monroe.

part of the reason the Cavs fired Grant now is they didn’t want him to trade off assets to save his job.
Dion is not going anywhere unless they get a huge return, Tristan could get traded but they have basically come to the conclusion that he will be there 3rd big for a while as Verejao’s replacement.
The only players Gilbert will let them trade are AV, Deng, Jarrett Jack, Miles, Gee, Clark and maybe Zeller.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantHopefully your right because Affalo for Dion and Tristan is a terrible ideaand should get Griffin fired Febuary 13th allowing for some appeal to the league to void the deal before the deadline.
Now Tristan and Dion for Tobias Harris and Affalo is a different story and could yield Orlando a couple 2nd rounders thrown in.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantNo Varejao. Varejao is shooting over 50% from the elbows and has a ridiculous rebound rate. His PER is 17.6. Why would you trade a guy like that? Plus his improved range makes him a decent offensive four who doesn’t stretch the court but pulls it. I personally believe that he should start at the 4 and Asik at the five. That would be a limited but very good defensive front court with a fluid agile guy to play pick and roll D in AV and a solid rim protector in Asik. Neither will ever force a shot which is good because its enough guards on the team that will do that and play matador defense. AV is an above average PF offensively and defensively and a serviceable center so why play him out of position. Of course some Earl Clark would have to be included but he is friends with Dwight from Orlando so that should be cool.
Even though Tristan is a key member of the young (albeit disfunctional) core, IMO he is the one young player that doesn’t fit. He only has one position he can be even serviceable at in PF. Its hard to say this because he is the hardest worker and last year was "the" team leader. At best he can become some type of Charles Smith/Oakley combo type power forward if his mid range game improves and it will because he will work at it until it does.
I would trade Dion Waiters straight up for Affalo. With Waiters the Magic get a promising 2 guard with some unique abilities that will eventually make an All Star or two in his career or at least be a top 3 leading scoring sixth man in his conference which shouldn’t be hard to do because he is already doing it. Cleveland gets a legit professional who along with Deng, Jack and AV are real professional professionals.
Deng and the Memphis (virtual lottery) pick for Batum. I know the Blazers don’t need to shake anything up but he wanted out before they forced his restricted return and they could have max cap available if they wanted this summer and enter the Melo sweepstakes. This in NIKE town afterall.
Tristan Thompson and Earl Clark (maybe Gee and some other craps) for Josh Smith. If Thompson was on the board Detroit would have picked him over Brandon Knight and he had a guarantee from them. This would give the Pistons leverage with Monroe this summer and even be open to sign and trade options. Dan Gilbert called Josh Smith the best defensive PF in the NBA is a game last year. He is wrong of course but with a weak side shot blocker only allowed to play the four for the Cavs and AV (no shot blocking) the Cavs would be in good shape.
Cleveland starting line up:
Jack, Irving, Deng, Smith, Varejao. Looks good to me.
Bennett for Josh Smith ..Joey D is getting fred anyway and Bennett is actually a great long term fit with Drummond.
Bennett, Clark, Zeller (if you watched the Cavs lately his balls just dropped and actually looks like a servicable back up big) and Miami first rounder for Butler and Sanders.
Jack and Waiters for Klay Thompson
Waiters and Zeller for Klay Thompson
Clark, Gee and some 2’s for Richard Jefferson
Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters, Anthony Bennett, Tyler Zeller and 2014 unprotected first round pick and future Memphis lottery pick and Miami first round pick for Kevin Love.
Jack, Clark, Karasev, Zeller and 2 firsts for Lin and Asik. Lin and Kyrie together create a Suns Bledsoe/Dragic duo and do a Green Hornet an dKato commercial together and get the Cavs on national TV at least twice a month. Houston gets bench help and a back up center who likes to run and an unprotected first from Cavs (goldmine) and some other first.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantJoe D and Dan Gilbert are smoking some of that Detroits finest if they think either of their teams deserve to make the playoffs.
They would be a 8th seed tops and get mangled and lose out on a shot at a lottery pick in the first draft with a worthwhile lottery in years. Both teams are as close to the bottom as they are chose to the middle. He know he is fired if they don’t make the playoffs.

MopgrassParticipantPG Kyrie Irving SF Luol Deng PF Anderson Varejao is an excellent start. They have so many assets to fill two other positions. I wouldn’t really want to trade Waiters, but things aren’t working in Cleveland.
I call Varejao a PF because he’s got the boards, but isn’t the rim protector at center they need… a traditional 2 like Afflalo would help too.
