ag-pennypackerParticipantThe Thunder look great so far this season. A big part of that seems to be the improvement of Reggie Jackson and Jeremy Lamb. Do people expect the Thunder to be able to resign these two players in the future? What will their roles look like? And what will their salaries look like? I realize this is looking out a ways but Jackson is elligible for an extention in April I believe and the Thunder haven’t historically held onto players like him.

KHAM83ParticipantWell it always comes down to the money and the aspirations of the player. There are a few teams out there with cap space that may be interested in Jackson to be their pg, Orlando, Milwaukee, Toronto, Lakers, or even Boston if they trade Rondo. If someone was to throw a lot of money towards Jackson, OKC simply cannot match it. Let alone Jackson probably believes he’s a starter and wants to go else where, rather than backup Westbrook. It comes down to the demand for Jackson next Summer. Lamb on the other hand, they can afford to pay him because he would eventually be a starter, unless of course he improved so much and became a near max money player. This isn’t a bad situation, being a small market team, the Thunder has their cornerstone players in Durant and Westbrook, and to an extent Ibaka. If Jackson, Lamb, etc was to price themselves out of their range, they simplify need to ship them off for cheaper assets with potential, a la Harden trade.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI think Jackson could be a starter elsewhere in a season or two. I don’t know if he’d want the reduced role and reduced salary in OKC but it’d be good for OKC if they could keep him.

hbomb3300ParticipantThe good news for the Thunder is that by the time his rookie deal expires Perkins will be off the books. They can offer 10 or 12 mill a year if they really wanted to… my guess is they will offer 8 to 10 a year but I think Reggie is in the same mindset of Harden, wanting more money and a bigger role. I hope I’m wrong though.

KHAM83ParticipantI think that money will be better off getting depth at the bigs position, rather than at backup pg. A big market team can do that, but not NO.

hbomb3300ParticipantI think they are in good shape with bigs with Ibaka, Adams, and Collison… Perry Jones can also play some minutes at PF. Reggie is definitely worth keeping if he doesn’t want near max money.

BloodFoLyfeThey need to move perkins and those draft picks they have now I don’t care about chemistry perkins is ineffective. All he does is gives hard fouls at times. They saved a lot of money with Kevin Martian leaving also harden turning down 14 mil now they can split that between Lamb ,Jackson and Adams. Don’t get it confused okc isn’t holding Jackson back unlike harden ,hes no allstar cal player he has a solid sixth man role along with lamb that duos replaces what harden gave somewhat.
Would Jackson have even cracked a rotation in the nba? we all know okc throws it young players out there that’s the history of this team developing homegrown talent even Thabo has become a better player.
The problem is when they traded harden they should have asked for asik for perkins.

surveParticipantall I know is….we need that call-out thread. I mentioned on here how much of a dark horse pick he was coming out. I was met with criticism of my statements by those who asked if a first round pick was spent on Jackson to be a career backup. I stated absolutely not. He received that guaranteed draft position by OKC because Westbrook would be up for renewal and they didnt know if they would be able to retain him. Jackson wasnt just insurance, he was a backup plan. Russ re-signed so in this instance it looks like Jackson will end up leaving ultimately. However, like the Suns found a valuable PG in Bledsoe, some team will do the same with Jackson.

AmiableBaller34ParticipantOne of the commentators last night put it perfectly when he said "Reggie is one of those rare players who can break down his defender, and get to the rim without a pick." That’s Jacksons biggest attribute, and is what he is going to make his money on.
I love his game, and think he’s a critical part to OKC’s team. He already has the trust of Kevin Durant, and Brooks trusts him in the closing minutes of games. I would like to see him grow with this team, but I could easily see him taking the money and running. If OKC is lucky, he will sign an MLE type of deal, similar to what the Celtics gave Courney Lee.
I don’t think he’s best suited to play a starting role right now because he’s more of a scorer than a distributer, but if he can add to his game like he has, then I see no reason why he couldn’t start for a couple teams. With guys like George Hill getting PAID then I don’t see why some team wouldn’t throw that type of money at Reggie.

MopgrassParticipantReggie Jackson is developing, Jeremy Lamb is getting to play this year and doing great, and Steve Adams looks like a brilliant add. It’s an exciting team.
They’re one of the best teams already. If they keep this group together and they keep developing, they might be the best team next year.

TRC1991ParticipantReggie Jackson is night and day better than he was last year. He’s become a pretty reliable scoring threat.

JNixonParticipantHe can start for another team, but I think he fits best as a backup. He’s not a true floor general, but he can score real well and he has the size and attitude to be a great defender.
