3aglesParticipantI’m from Texas and have been following bball recruiting for a few years. I just wanted to know if the people here on .NET have noticed that highly ranked TX guys never seem to live up to the hype, obiviously there are a few execptions, here are some rankings so you all can make some judgements:
2003 5*s: Ndudi Ebi(#4), Kendrick Perkins(#6)
2004 5*s: Lamarcus Aldridge(#16), Jewann Mclellan(#18), Daniel Gibson(#29)
2005 5*s: Gerald Green(#1), Bryon Eaton(#17), CJ Miles(#19), Wink Adams(#25)
2006 5*s: Darrell Arthur(#16), Damion James(#17)
2007 5*s: Deandre Jordan(#8), Anthony Randolph(#12)
2008 5*s: Willie Warren(#10), Bobo Morgan(#25)
2009 5*s: Latavios Williams(#17)
2010 5*s: Perry Jones(#9), Tony Mitchell(#12)
2011 5*s: Lebryan Nash(#6)
2012 5*s: Isaiah Austin(#4), Marcus Smart(#10), Rasheed Suliamon(#18)

he_gets_bucketsParticipantA common factor among many of them is that they are freak athletes, who are labelled with the "potential" tag. Guys like Perry Jones, Tony Mitchell, Lebryan Nash, Isiah Austin, Gerald Green, Anthony Randolph, Deandre Jordan. Freak atheletes who just happen to play basketball, but cant quite translate into elite players despite high rankings coming out of highschool. Whether or not you see that as overrated is up to your own descetion.

Sewok15ParticipantIsaiah Austin is certainly long and can move well for a big man but I have never heard anyone refer to him as a freak athlete….he certainly isn’t in the league of those other guys you mentioned.

rileymcshea3ParticipantWell I’m from North Texas and don’t know much about South Texas, but have heard that Houston produces a lot of talent. As for the DFW area we have 2 top 5 projected prospects this year in Marcus Smart and Julius Randle. In highschool right now Eman Mudaiy looks like the real deal and I just hope SMU doesn’t mess up his draft stock and Myles Turner could make it another year of 2 top 5 draft picks from North Texas in the 2015 draft.

I mean, if you’re a McDonald’s all-american, you’re almost expected to be drafted 1-3 years into college at some point in the first round (maybe even the lotto) or you’re not living up to the hype. In reality, the vast majority of 5-star prospects either don’t make it to the NBA, or play out their days as rotation players/ fringe roster filler.
