Tonight on Espn2 Tyus Jones high school takes on Jahlil Okafor’s high school at 7:00 pm Eastern Time. This is a good look into the future for Duke fans and college basketball fans in general.

Okafor’s Team is a national powerhouse while Jones squad isn’t. This will be a real test for Jones and his squad. Look forward to seeing the two studs.

Gary Trent Jr/ from Apple Valley looks like a good prospect. 2017 kid. playing well against Whitney young.

Okafor is beast.  He could dominate a lot of college big men right now.  I didn’t realize his wingspan was 7’4."

Whitney Young is much more athletic and longer than Apple Valley.  They have a lot more depth as well.  Chicago area HS hoops reminds me of HS football in Texas and HS hockey in Minnesota.  So much competition.

Tyus Jones looks like the real deal.  Great vision, handle, and he’s shown the ability to get the basket easily.  He’s got a nice floater as well.  I like him more as a prospect than Andrew Harrison at the moment.

Ty’s brother Tre is only in 8th grade, but he’s getting a lot of playing time.  He’s made some nice plays for his age with Coach K in attendance.

I believe they said his wingspan is 7’5 but USA basketball measured it at a shade over 7’6 either way whatever it is. He is long. also his standing reach is high. He doesn’t need much lift to throw it down with ease. He is getting tripled anytime the ball comes near him and has played composed still. Passing out the post. Hitting cutters toward the basket. The kid can really play.

Tyus Jones has got instincts in the passing lane. He had seem to be really passive in the first half but he is erupting in the second half. Good passing and well as scoring. 19 points in the second half so far.

Your right about Chi town hoops as well. Very high level ball over in that area.

Thats Exactly right, Chicago is the Mecca of Amateur Basketball… ask Bill Self, Calipari, Tom Izzo and Coach K were they go to recruit to win National Championships.. Chicago.

Apple Valley has been struggling to say the least. I can see a player like Tyus Jones really thriving with better talent around him. Okafor is not even playing that hard, but he’s going up against chubby Minnesota kids, which makes his dominance seem a bit humorous.

Number 34 on Apple Valley makes Kennedy Meeks look kinda thin.

28 points now for Tyus.  Very impressive 2nd half.

Does anyone else see Paul White with some intensity and consistancy as a developing player become a first rounder? 6’8, good skill level, good athleticism, above average length and very good ball handling and passing.

It’s a possibility. Probably after two years the earliest. Paul White was a kid that was a top 10 prospect in this class nationally during his sophomore year. His talent never went anywhere but he wouldn’t play hard and also has had injuries. Seems to be getting back on track though.  Talent isn’t the issue it’s more or less can he play hard with intensity at all times and can he stay healthy. If he can do that then I see no reason why he can’t crack the first round after two or three years in college. He will be a prospect similiar to Laquinton Ross in my opinion.

He has some of the same attributes as Otto, but not all.  He’s not a great athlete. I don’t think he’s as long as Otto.  He’s improved his mid-range jumper but he’ll need to expand his range.  Good passer, but I wouldn’t consider him a good ball-handler.  I’ve watched Paul over the years and he doesn’t strike me as a high upside guy.  He looks more like a 3-4 year player. G’Town has a way of making guys like him look great though.

Isaac Copeland, on the other hand, I think he’s got next as far as the next really good G’Town wing if he doesn’t outgorw the SF position. I think he’ll end up far outplaying his ranking. Springy, skilled, nice jumper, go go gadget arms and he’s a vicious dunker.
