5 Reasons Why Alex Poythress Should Stay Another Year in College

1. He has no shot of going in the 1st round this year if he comes out with this extremely loaded draft class.
2. Kentucky’s incoming freshmen class does not include one SF.
3. Unless an automatically eligible transfer to play right away comes to Kentucky (Julius Mays for an example), their recruiting class as far as players who have a shot of being a rotation player immediatley is pretty much set.
4. Assumming Randle, Young, WCS, The Harrisons and Dakari (It’s possible for him to come out with Towns and Lyles coming in with Marcus Lee likely staying) all come out , Poythress would be able to put up more shots playing with Towns, Lee, Lyles, Booker and Ulis than this year’s group.
5. Not saying that nobody else does this, it happens every year, but what is the point of coming out just to get a non guaranteed rookie contract when there’s still two years left of eligibilty to increase his stock?

just wanted to point out though #2 on your list is very likely to change. Jonah Bolden a combo forward, most likely a SF is now #1 on Calipari’s list of targets and it is speculated that if/WHEN Kentucky offers him that he will be quick to sign.
Kentucky was late to get in on his recruiting, I believe only started in October, due to him being Australian andnot being highly regarded until coming to play at Findlay Prep.He also has other offers of course like Louisville and Indiana, but Kentucky is viewed as being his dream school and a near lock.

  I would have to say McAdoo, I think the level of expectation for him this season was higher then Alex’s. but for some reason he just looks off… I feel bad for both of them

  I havent seen much of UK this year, only a couple of games and Poythress didnt look bad. He wasnt scoring much but he looked more hungry on the glass. I would definitely have to say McAdoo. McAdoo looks bad when UNC wins and looks bad when they lose.
  To the guy that said Poythress isnt very good, that isnt true. Randle coming was a blessing in disguise. I think next year he can have a big year. Most players today arent ready after one or two years. It will workout better for him by staying for his junior season.

#1 reason AP will need to stay is he is just not that good as Skeating12345 pointed out. I wouldn’t be suprised if he transfers. Physically AP has a lot of things you want in a SF but something doesnt click in the game for whatever reason. After watching the McDonalds game I was impressed with his skill set (Yea I know allstar game environment) he has been a complete non factor in his 1+ thus far. If I was him I am looking at another school similar to Kyle W if I want to increase my chance to go the NBA
Between him and McAdoo-I am going to say McAdoo has hurt his stock more. He was MVP in both all star games coming out of his (again allstar game) but also did well in USA U17-I believe at one point he was #2 on the mocks ahead of Barnes and ppl saw him in that Marvin Williams role. 6th man, but most talent ’05 UNC

He’s the best kid in the world. I need him to be bad for once’. This is basically code for Alex being a big soft vagina (which he is). He’s jacked and has a great standing vert, but he’s too afarid to bump into someone for a rebound. He has a decent enough looking touch from 20 feet, but can’t attack the rim because he’s a turnover waiting to happen if he tries to drive the ball.
McAdoo has 100% hurt his stock more because of the family name and expectations.

I was a fan of his at the start of his freshman year… he really stood out for a moment. He has all the physical tools, that is why I think he could still turn it around. Right now he is playing the energy PF role off the bench… if he stays two more years, develops his perimeter game, and gains confidence, he could make an NBA team as a SF. He was a decent 3 point shooter at the start of last year… there is still hope for him.

He won’t get a chance to stick around in the league if he comes out now. He would always be fighting for a league minimum contract if he declared this year because I don’t see him going in the 1st round. He needs to stay in school and focus on his game.
