ItsRainingNegsParticipantSince it’s such a big deal when referencing Andrew Wiggins let’s go ahead hash it out. Here are guys I feel we’re considered either the top prospects in their class or considered true franchise talents:
2004: Dwight Howard
2005: None
2006: None
2007: Greg Oden, Kevin Durant
2008: Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley
2009: Blake Griffin
2010: John Wall
2011: None
2012: Anthony Davis
2013: None
2024: Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Julius Randle
so out of all if these players, they were either considered franchise guys, or the unanimous number one in their class. Sort it out and see what y’all think about each prospect.

thricethefunParticipantAs prospects at the time of them being drafted I would rank them:
1. Oden
2. Rose
3. Durant
4. Wall
5/ Davis
6. Dwight
7. Griffin
8. Beasley
I can’t speak for Wiggins, Parker, and Randle yet as I don’t know how their stock will look come draft day.

ItsRainingNegsParticipantI can’t correct 2024 from my phone so that’s that. Since I created it I feel like I should make one even though I’m not 100% sure since I’m not exactly a basketball scout.
1. Greg Oden
2. Andrew Wiggins
3. Kevin Durant
4. Anthony Davis (didn’t think I’d rank him that high pre-list)
5. John Wall
Michael Beasley would be fifth if it wasn’t for his off court concerns even then. Griffin and Howard are in the same boat of super athletic bigs, which is extremely important, but they were so raw. I don’t know if anybody pegged Derrick Rose as a 22 year old MVP.
Oden’s one because of the NBA’s past history with big men and winning championships and that goes same for Anthony Davis. Wiggins is second because, if he develops offensively, could be number one on a championship team. Durant is third because of his inside out side potential, but strength concerns at his size were legitimate. John Wall’s fifth because of his frame, athletic ability, and overall ceiling. This also kind of takes into account how they were viewed coming out but again just a rough sketch of opinions and ideas.

r377ParticipantGreg Oden was the most hyped of all those prospects. There was about 20% of us who would of taken Kevin Durant over him though. I remember Jay Bilas saying on Durnat "This guy will one day lead the league in scoring".
From memory it was just about 50-50 on taking Rose or Beasley with the no 1 pick. I don’t remember either of them being touted as "franchise changes".
I would of said going by the hype
1. Oden
2. Durant
3. Davis
4. Wall
5. Dwight
6. Rose
7. Beasley
8. Griffin

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantIt has to be Greg Oden. He was compared to Bill Russell and David Robinson while he was in high school.
That’s a legendary comparisons.

For_Never_EverParticipantHe was not a top prospect. However, I believe now he is in the convo, Paul George. Even more so then Kevin Durant out of the SF position.

cheartbreaker21ParticipantI’m not the only one who remembers how big a deal Emeka Okafor was, right? It was a mild shocker that Orlando picked Dwight over him, since there was a lot of doubt that Dwight would ever develop into an NBA ready big. Dude was rail thin with no offensive game coming out of high school.
I agree with Rose/Beasley being a pretty big debate. Not as big as Emeka/Dwight, but still a tough one. Based off hype alone, I’d go with this.
1. Oden
2. Wiggins
3. Durant
4. Davis
5. Wall
6. Parker/Randle
7. Okafor
8. Kyrie Irving! Huge buzz about this guy when he came out!
9. Griffin
10. Dwight

ItsRainingNegsParticipantYou’re totally right about Okafor vs. Howard but, I was young, Howard was the raw kid vs an experienced man. Okafor was hyped but idk if it was franchise. Tell me the story of that draft haha
