valentineI was in that thread where Iggy is being said to be able to play 1 thru 4.
I find that very special, then I asked myself how many players can guard 1 thru 4Lebron James
Andre Igoudala?
Paul George?
Kawhi Leonard?
Luol Deng?I just realized they are all SFs…
Well, Iman Shumpert guarded Nowitzki for an entire game and he didn’t get lit up in any special way.

TMoney617ParticipantMaybe not as much recently, but Shawn Marion and Andrei Kirilenko could do it.

lockdownDNice.
I was thinking non-SFs recently… How about Jason Kidd? did he ever guard a PF in a super special occasion….
I know SFs he could guard… He took on ‘Bron and shut him down, it was legendary as it was embarrassing.0- Posted on: Fri, 07/05/2013 - 7:32pm #814592
BenchWarmerParticipantIt was the Mavs D that stopped LeBron. They threw Deshawn at him to get under his skin, marion for length and Kidd for his defensive savvy. They even threw smalls at him to harass him and then have to deal with Chandler at the rim.. not to mention a VERY good zone. Please change your username because you obviously don’t understand defense.

lockdownDPlease kid.
That’s the same series that every time they put Kidd on Wade, Wade would take him to the block successfully.
Lebron wasn’t having his best series, and Dallas played great team defense (that’s almost how every team guards him),
but on ISOs there was nothing Lebron could do against Kidd. Lebron didn’t have any post game to take advantage of height when he first got to Miami, as I said before. His shots weren’t falling so he couldn’t shoot over him. And Kidd was doing great staying in front of him, which is where the height disadvantage would come in handy.Kidd stopped Lebron.

Memphis MadnessParticipantLeBron can guard five. In the Finals sometimes he was on Duncan or Splitter.
All time, not many guys could do it. I would go with Rodman. Then probably LeBron. That might be about it for guys
who could conceivably guard all five spots on the floor.0- Posted on: Fri, 07/05/2013 - 6:29pm #814609
lockdownDActually the original title was ”…who could guard —4/5— positions”, but i figured only Lebron can do it so…..

BenchWarmerParticipantRight now:
its Lebron because he has the body to go against 4’s. Then there is a drop off in 1-4 defenders. He is the only one that can legitimatly guard 1-4 imo.Leonard can but not quite as effective against stronger players but works his ass off to make up for it.
Iggy is more of a perimeter defender that defends 1-3.
aul George cannot defend 4’s. Lebron exploited him in the post and Lebron isnt the best post player you will find at the 4.
Not so much anymore: Kierlinko, Marion, KG, Artest (no mention yet?) Prince (more of 2-4)
In the past: Rodman, Pippen, could argue Bowen and Micheal Cooper (hes abit of a reach but figured id mention him)
Maybe one day?: Mo Harkless and MKG
Guy who can legitimately guard 1-4 imo: Pippen, Lebron, Artest
Its kinda cool because each guy aside from there high defensive IQ, had different ways of doing it; Artest used his quick hands and relentlessness, Pippen used his length (watched him recently and it seems he ALWAYS got his hand on passes, especially when going to the post) and Lebron uses his body.Ps. I don’t count Rodman until they prove he is human. He was unreal

Afactor4ParticipantWell Bruce Bowen’s defense wasn’t just limited to guarding the teams best perimeter player. I remember him guarding Dirk on quite a few occasions and doing well.

XYRYXParticipantA lot of very good names above. There isn’t one single player named who I wouldn’t want on my team.
Scottie Pippen for sure belongs in into the top tier section. Rodman für sure was incredible too. Image 2 guys in the starting lineup who can guard 4 different positions. I can remember that they threw Rodman against young Shaq. He covered everyone he was asked to cover. The player who made the most out of his talent and even grew bigger than his ceiling. I truely believe there is not one single player in history who peaked out bigger than his floor and ceiling was. That’s why I love him so much, his fire and hustle earned him a special but absolutely deserving place in the Hall of Fame. If I could chose to go one path of a legend player I would go his.
