The deal being talked about would be Barnes or Thompson + Bogut and a 1st round pick for Howard. Which in real talk is Barnes or Thompson and a pick cause Bogut would only be a Laker for this year and then his contract runs out.

So which one are you asking for? Barnes or Thompson? And why?

If I’m Golden State I really hope they take Thompson not Barnes. Barnes is a much more consistent rebounder, defender and has great upside as a scorer.

Also there’s no reason Bogut would leave the Lakers after a year, I have a feeling they could probably convince him to stay, he’s not as much of an egomaniac as Dwight.

According to the latest news from espn via realgm, the deal is centered around big expirings of bogut, Jefferson, or biedrins. They dint mention Thompson, barnes or the pick.

Barnes, just on the shear fact that they already have one of the greatest SG of all time playing for them. Also I think Barnes has more upside than Clay simply because he has the physicality and body to be a good defender; something Clay doesn’t really have. LA is LA, and the fact that Barnes can throw down some nasty jams would really get some people excited, and would be easier to market going forward once Kobe leaves.

It’s not about Bogut wanting to leave. It’s the Lakers not signing him back. I do see why they would resign Bogut. He’d cost around 9 million a year and is always hurt.

GS would have to be on crack to include Curry in a deal for Howard. I don’t know why GS would offer anything of legit value in a sign and trade beyond something that matches salaries and picks. Including one of their young talented players is like taking two steps forward and one step back. Both Thompson and Barnes are still on rookie deals. They shouldn’t do it. Howard is so darn lame.

I doubt GSW give up Barnes or Thompson. If Dwight wants to leave LA then LA could get nothing for him. They’d be better doing a sign and trade similar to the Boston Brooklyn deal.
    Dwight Howard for
    Biedrins – Jefferson – 1st rounders in 14 16 18 unprotected
If Dwight leaves then LA is in rebuild and need a top pick in 14. Pau Gasol has value as an expiring plus he’s still good, possibly get a draft pick for him, just blow it up and try to get 3 picks in next years draft.
I feel bad for Steve Nash though if things go that way

Aaa a laker fan, I’m really hoping this happens, much more so then Dwight even returning as I’ve never been a fan of his. Bight is solid and has one year if they don’t like him. Plus, under dantonni, pau can play center and as I’ve stated numerous times already, I think Jordan hill is a damn fine player if he can stay healthy. I will be a happy man if the lakers get either klay or barnes. As for who I would take between those two, barnes.

If I’m Golden State I’d offer Thompson, Bogut, Bierdnes (spelling), Jefferson, and two firsts. That’s 3 expiring contracts, Thompson, and two role players/high risk/high reward players. If Lakers demand Barnes I’d walk.

The reason they are saying they would have to move Barnes or Thompson with Bogut is because GS doesn’t have cap space. So really the Lakers could say NO to trading him to GS if they don’t get back something in return. Which would leave Howard going to the Rockets. LA and GS need each other for this one to work.

And if I’m GS I would offer a trade of Barnes, Bogut and a Pick to the Lakers for Howard. A core 4 for GS of Howard, Curry, Thompson and Lee would be amazing. Also they would have a nice backup for Howard already in Festus Ezeli.

The spacing of a GS team with Howard teamed up with Curry, Thompson and Lee would be almost unstoppable. People are already calling Curry and Thompson the best shooting combo in the league. Just think about how open they’ll be with Howard on the floor.

Does giving up Barnes hurt? YES. But getting the best big man in the game to take your team to where it’s never been before makes up for that loss… 10 fold.

GS is shopping players hard to make cap space to sign Howard outright as well. They are extremely confident, so maybe Howard told them he’ll sign and play there if possible. Kind of suvks for them since they have about 30 million coming off the books next year. 1 summer too late.

for people saying no to either Thompson or Barnes bc they’ll become the big 3…. Howard, Curry, and Thompson/Barnes will be a bigger 3. If I’m GS, I’m not sure who I’ll prefer to keep between the two, but I’ll look to replace the traded player with someone who can handle the rock, since Curry is the only one on the team. Biedrens and/or Jefferson expiring contracts may get you someone from a team looking to tank this year and free up cap space.

So if Howard says to LA i’m going to GSW or Houston but my first preference is Golden State, who thinks the Lakers don’t take Biedrins, Jefferson and 3 Firsts?
LA has no leverage whatsoever, Dwight has it all, and if he says he’s not returning to LA then LA has no choice but to take something of value in return from Golden State.
If GSW loses Barnes or Thompson in a trade its because they panicked and good for LA if they manage this but I don’t see it happening. Theres just no reason why GSW should have to give up building blocks to the lakers over picks when Howard can go to Houston and then the Lakers get zero.

Yeah, you kind of answer it yourself why they wouldn’t. Jefferson and biedeins are gonna make over 20 mill which would be taxed at like a 2:1 ratio so the lakers would have another 40 mill on top of those salaries so about 60 mill for some draft picks that will be in the 20’s? I wouldn’t do that and I don’t think the lakers would either. The lakers might not have any pull with Dwight if he doesn’t really care where he goes but the lakers sure as he’ll would have a lot of pull vs gstate if the warriors don’t want to watch him go to Houston. Lakers have plenty of leverage over the warriors if they want Dwight. Oh, and my numbers above were just rough guesses salary wise but you get the point.
