PyronParticipantThe Detroit Pistons have offered the expiring contracts of Rodney Stuckey and Charlie Villanueva to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Rudy Gay.
The Raptors acquired Gay in a January trade made by Bryan Colangelo.
Trading Gay would clear salary cap space for the Raptors for the 2014 offseason.
Masai Ujiri has already begun clearing holdovers by trading Andrea Bargnani to the New York Knicks.

If this goes down… I’m preparing for one hell of a tanking lol. Maybe tickets will be cheaper to watch games next season lol!!

PHILA9ParticipantIf Maisi was able to get picks for Bargnani I am sure he is also looking to get picks in return for Rudy Gay.

PyronParticipantI agree dude. Looks like the Raps want to get rid of the big contracts and get draft picks.
Raptors vs Celtics for the Wiggins sweepstakes? lol!

Sharp ShooterParticipantI hope this goes through on the pistons end. This actually gives the pistons a first option instead of monroe, who is better off as a 2nd option. Then we should re-sign Jose Calderon.

starpyParticipantI wouldn’t mind giving up Gay for those contracts if there was an unprotected or a lightly protected first thrown in, but I think they can do a bit better for him than just Charlie V and Stuckey.

laarethekingsParticipantIf the Pistons can get Gay and Rondo. To me you give up on the rebuild plan.
Rodney Stuckey and Charlie Villanueva and a 1st round pick for Gay.
Brandon Knight and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope for Rondo.
A core 4 of Rondo, Gay, Drummond and Monroe. That’s a monster top 4 players of a team. And to me Drummond is a superstar in the making. Monroe can be a multiple All Star. We know the players Gay and Rondo are.
I’m really big on once you have your stars to build around you do it. You don’t want young players thinking that losing is all their is.

PyronParticipantThat would be one fun team to watch! A healthy Drummond unleashed with a squad like that is just nasty!!

thparadoxParticipantGay for expiring contracts would be a godsend at this point. 19M is more than twice what he should be making right now.
I bet the Raptors can get a 1st rounder for Kyle Lowry no problem too. Then we’d really be in a position to tank.

ReekoParticipantthe Raptors make the playoffs and miss out on any of the top prospects in next year’s draft, than to have to watch one season of Rodney Stuckey and Charlie V (again) in a Raptors uniform. They have to be two of the worst players at their respective positions in the entire league, what a low-ball offer for a pretty talented player who is a borderline all-star when he is driven. I think some people are of the opinion that because the Raptors traded Bargnani for role players and picks, that they are in tank mode. I do not think that is the case, Bargnani has been in large part ineffective and injured for the last few years. Colangelo kept him out of pride, not because of anything Andrea actually did on the basketball court. Ujiri strikes me as too calculating and intelligent to let a player of Rudy Gay’s caliber go for just cap space next season. It would be a completely uncharacteristic move for someone who has managed to make great hires and trades in such a short time.

PyronParticipantWe got rid of Bargnani because he is getting paid way too much to suck. We got assets in draft picks and an outside shooter.
Usually when you get rid of 2 of your highest paid players you’re losing your best players. That was the case with Gay but not Barg.
With Gay’s contract out of the way and the little savings we get from the Barg trade the Raps will be in good financial shape moving forward.
The highest paid players after them are DD, Amir, Lowry and Fields. Not exactly the greatest team of players who make the most on a team.
I wouldn’t mind getting rid of DD and tank the year to try to go after Wiggins. The only way for the Raps to become a contending team is by obtaining talent through the draft. Once a foundation of players are set to build around then they can bring in some vets.
I really hated how BC made the Raps into an average team hoping to grab the 8th seed in the east and end of missing out then getting an average draft position.
I hope that JV can become the player Toronto fans think he can become but we’ve seen this already with Barg. If his growth doesn’t happen in a few years we can’t hold on to something that isn’t going to happen. If we do then we can’t overpay for potential.
Same thing goes for free agent signings. Overpaying for mediocre talent will bring us down the same road.
If Masai gets draft picks out of this trade for Rudy I’ll be happy with the effort he’s put so far. Its really going to be up to his front office hirings to find the best talent available at their draft positions.
If the Raps really do tank all I’m looking for is the development of JV and also throw Ross into the deep end and see what he’s made of.

halfdecayedParticipantStuckey and Charlie V for Gay is a really bad trade for the raps lol, in fact it’s awful.. Stuckey is probably the shoot guard I hate the most in the active shooting guard getting playing time.. And Charlie V.. well..

ItsRainingNegsParticipantI’d like to see a lineup of Lowery-Ross-Derozan-Gay-Jonas as the Raptor starters. They could make the playoffs with that lineup.

Ghost01ParticipantThe tanking has gotten so laughable…
For some teams, it’s worth it. But plenty of teams are going to suck, and find out that having the 4th or 5th pick in next years draft isn’t going to be “worth” giving up assets and throwing your whole team away.
One team is getting Wiggins.
One team is getting Parker
One team is getting RandleBeyond that, they are regular lottery pick dudes. Marcus Smart and Aaron Gordon aren’t franchise changing talents, they are promising young players. I am fine with what the Celtics did, their run was over. But the Raptors have been trying to improve for over a year now…and now they are just going to throw that all away? A CHANCE at Wiggins. That’s it. Is Charlotte and Orlando and Phoenix going to suddenly be anything more than terrible next year? It’s a chance. That’s it. And what if Wiggins isn’t the messiah of basketball. Might wanna watch a couple of collegiate level games first.
