CavFanPRParticipantI keep reading these bogus statements that say “Ben McLemore would be the first shooting guard taken first overall in 40 years.” 17 years ago, Allen Iverson was taken first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers and he played shooting guard his entire NBA career so the 40 years thing is nonsense.
Secondly, Derrick Rose, John Wall and Kyrie Irving are listed at point guard but they play a lot of shooting guard for their respective teams. Stop trying to sell the 40 year bs to try and hype McLemore up.
Lastly, if Shabazz Muhammad was taken first overall, would he qualify as the first shooting guard in “40” years? Because I keep seeing Muhammad listed as a small forward but he clearly is a shooting guard. What’s up with that?

Sewok15ParticipantHe was a point guard when he was drafted and his first couple years in the league. He averaged 7.5 assists per game as a rookie which was the 2nd most in his career. If Shabazz was taken first overall I would imagine the Apocalypse is imminent.

J_01ParticipantBen Mclemore would possible be the first pure shooting guard. Iverson was a combo guard who was able to play both. He played his prime years on Philly at 2 so you could say his primary position was 2 but he did play alot of years at 1 when he was with denver and detroit.
About Rose, Wall and Kyrie…Where do you see them play 2? They are all their team’s primary ballhandler and play 1 as their main position. None of them really play the 2 guard. So that is why they are making a big deal since Mclemore might be the first pure shooting guard drafted number 1.

wrectorParticipantI can’t speak for the others, but Kyrie did play off the ball some times when Dion was bringing the ball up. But I wouldn’t consider that playing the 2.

FutureNBAGMParticipantHe was drafted as a PG. They had a certain SG named Jerry Stackhouse on their team at the time that they tried to pair him with

CavFanPRParticipantI guess you guys are right. Still, just because a sg hasn’t been taken first in a long time doesn’t mean the cavs should just go right away and take McLemore just because he’s a sg. That would get CG fired instantly!

jjbutler73ParticipantI’ve never seen or heard 1 person say they should talk him “just because he’s a shooting guard”. Some people think he’s the top prospect and that the team draft #1 should take the best prospect.

CavFanPRParticipantOf course, nobody is gonna say it. Still, this is a weak draft and there’s a reason. McLemore wouldn’t go top 5 on last years draft. In a draft like this, you pick for need and Len fills a void and is one of the better prospects as well. Len would go top 10 in last years draft ahead of Leonard.

CavFanPRParticipantI’d take Iverson first as well. Too bad McLemore isn’t even close to Iverson talent wise and is a head case.

NastradamusParticipantNone of those guys are 2 guards, period. Iverson became one and every PG in the history of the world has had his backcourt mate bring the ball up on occasion. Yeesh.
