BenAgent0ParticipantAccording to several reports, Nerlens Noels’ stock may be slipping because he may become “red flagged” prior to the draft.
Does him visiting anyone other than the Cavaliers show his stock slipping?
Noel will apparently be visiting with the Wizards, who have the third pick in the draft.. Prior to pre-draft workouts, Noel wasn’t even supposed to visit with any teams other than Cleveland.

lisergxParticipantQuestion is if you are the Cavs do you decide to take a chance with Otto Porter, cause I personally wouldn’t take Noel, with the first pick? I would trade it off for a veteran.

wrectorParticipantI don’t think there’s really any chance involved with Porter, his floor and ceiling are both pretty clear.

Chilbert arenasParticipantHe was never the unanimous #1 pick so it’s not surprising. It’s a year that has no clear cut #1 so it shouldn’t be considered “slipping” if he goes #3.

SpacegrassParticipantI saw a picture of Noel working out bench pressing and the injured knee does not look good in the picture. It looks like the knee of Frankenstein. All swollen and bulky with a rough looking scar. It won’t post but here is the link.

BenAgent0Participantouch, that looks hideous..
It’s such a difficult situation. Although Cleveland is picking first, they certainly wont have the easiest decision. How can you pass on a guy with as much potential as Noel though? It’s nearly impossible.
His injuries are so concerning, but passing on him for Otto Porter (who I love btw) would be so tough..
I’d definitely look for trade options. I’m sure some teams would entertain the trade.. (Kevin Love, DeMarcus Cousins, Greg Monroe?)

jsmitty104ParticipantPistons won’t give up Monroe for a draft pick. I doubt Min or Sac would either. I think the Cavs are screwed. They might be better off taking Porter or Len. Noel could be the next Oden. Or he could be a stud. It is really 50 50 at this point. Sucks to be the Cavs.

Sewok15ParticipantI am impressed that skinny Noel is even benching 200 pounds.

flybobbyflyParticipantAt first I looked a the pick and thought the same. If those were all plates he would be putting up over 300. I looked at the pick a little closer and realized that those are rubber weights and that he isn’t actually benching very much.
4 25 pound weights
2 15 pound weights
1 45 pound bar175 total
Not really that impressive

rjb241Participantohhhhhhh wow, that things looks horrible………i’d be scared as hell to draft him. Thats the first time ive seen that pic and your right it looks bad. Im no doctor but i wouldn’t assume RGIII knee or D-rose knee looks like that, but maybe it just looks alot worse than it is……….maybe? there are alot of quality players in the draft but without the injury id take noel #1 no doubt. I still have been thinking he may go #1 becuase the sky is the limit, but man, just seeing that thing pre-draft has gotta be scary for the Cavs

ropeParticipantHe has already had repeated knee problems. Given his slight frame, he would seem really likely to continue to to have them. I see him as being a “defensive” version of Jonathan Bender, who will be out of the league much sooner than anyone thinks. The odds would seem long that his knee or his body in general would hold up to the abuse it will take in a physical vocation like playing in the NBA.

Skeating12345ParticipantI completely agree with sheepish. He has virtually no real basketball skills. His range is about 18 inches, no post game, and a horrible free throw shooter. He relies on his athleticism, which could be fading away due to the ACL injuries. He is also a toothpick. He plays extremely hard and i wish him the best, but I really just dont think hell be a good NBA player

TallmanNYCParticipantBlocks, steals and dunks are basketball skills. But they all rely on crazy hops. He should get those back. And if he keeps his athleticism he will be a very good NBA player.
But man, that Knee. I couldn’t pull the trigger at One looking at that knee. Not when there are other potential all stars to take.

JCliff24ParticipantPersonally I’d take Oladipo (Even though he is a very short 3, hes a lock down defender) over B-Mac.
Id also take Porter over Len. Drafting Len would just create more of a log jam at the 4/5 position with Tristan, Zeller, Varejao, Len.0- Posted on: Wed, 06/12/2013 - 6:53pm #796163

DolanCareParticipantWhat log jam?
Thompson is a 4.
Zeller was drafted late in the draft with the assumption that he’d be a back up. And back up centers are very important.
Varejao is injury-prone and a trade commodity.
Len would be there 5 moving forward and could learn a lot from Varejao if he’s still around.

Chilbert arenasParticipantThough I agree with you Jcliff24 that I would rather take Oladipo, I have to disagree with you on that he’s a 3. He’s clearly a two-guard and should not be considered a small forward. If I were a Cavs fan I’d rather have Porter or Mclemore as well, even Zeller. Though I lack faith in Len I would still take him over Noel. There are too many question marks in regards to health about a player who is projected to be the next Larry Sanders. Good luck with that.

PG – Irving
SG – Waiters
SF – Porter
PF – Thompson
C – VerejaoThats not a bad lineup.

rjb241ParticipantI live in Ky so ive caught almost every game the guy played. I think it’s pretty easy to tell he is no where near Anthony Davis level. AD is a pretty special player and i think hes gonna have a really nice NBA career. My take on Nerlens is that hes very very very raw. Almost like someone who has not been playing organized ball very long, but is just so athletic and gifted. I do believe he will always be one of the guys who can’t really make a jumper. In this draft w/o his injury he is pretty much a no brainer #1 for me unless your team is stacked w bigs in which case you could take mclemore/burke/oladipo/porter. With all that being said he is a project, and should it pan out in 4 years youd have one of the best rim protectors in the game, worst case scenario you have a Deandre Jordan. One thing that i love about Noel is his motor, its fantastic, the kid plays very hard, if he can get this injury behind him and continue to add weight and grow as a player i think you get a Larry Sanders type rim protector with a joakim Noah motor.

IndianaBasketballParticipantHis knee looks terrible. I’d red flag his ass just because of the way that looks. Seriously… I’ve never seen a knee after reconstructive surgery look like that. I mean, maybe like RIGHT after the surgery lol. The fact it still looks THAT swollen at this point is weird. Even his scar looks hideous. They must’ve done his surgery different or something because the scars don’t look like that nowadays. I can like barely even see my insertion points. They’re small and are basically fading.
*Shivers*. I wouldn’t give this kid a lot of guaranteed money.

RafterParticipantThis. Even if you draft him, first of all you’re going have to wait until Christmas time not to mention it’ll take him a month or so to get back up to speed in terms of game fitness. Secondly he may bulk up but for a guy who is projected as a defensive presence, how impactful is his shot blocking and defense going to be? Anthony Davis is a much better all-round defender and yet New Orleans only won six more games and he was being billed as a transcending kind of talent. Noel scares the hell out of me.

kaceyParticipantLike another poster said about the pic of Noel working out, that is only 175 pounds tops for that bench workout. And based on how he has the rack arms extending down each side, then he is strengthening tendons and not necessarily do a typical bench workout. Hell my max is 300 on the bench press, but I can do 400 when I’m doing this exercise to strengthen tendons.
Not hating on Noel, because he is trying to get stronger. Do they do bench press reps at the combine?

redone1ParticipantI’m sorry but to say that Noel has no basketball skills is quite ridiculous. Yes, his shooting and offensive post game need a lot of work but if you actually watched him at kentucky you would not be saying he has no basketball skills. His shot block timing is amazing but most people already know this. He also is a very and I mean very good passer for a big men. His court vision is quite impressive. He also has developed a pretty decent lefty and righty jump hook.

I’m usually pretty bold with my mocks, but Noel still seems to be the consensus #1 for some reason so I’ve kept him there.
On my big board he wouldn’t be #1, even if he didn’t get injured.0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/13/2013 - 6:05am #796377
