Dimitrios Katsivelis In Euroleague Playoffs (2013 NBA Draft Eligible)

Dimitrios Katsivelis is 1991 born, so he is eligible for the 2013 NBA draft, as it is his automatic draft year.

He was not playing this year up until now. But recently the starting point guard of Olympiacos, Vangelis Mantzaris (who SHOULD have been drafted last year) was lost for the season with a knee injury.

But this injury opened up some playing time, not much, maybe 5-10 minutes, for Katsivelis. Well so far in the Olympiacos – Efes Euroleague playoff series, this kid is doing quite well in the minutes he gets.

He plays under control, he plays smart, and he plays good defense. He has also caused quite a bit of problems for Jordan Farmar (the guy he is always matching up with) in the minutes that he plays.

Katsivelis is 6-6 and he is a combo guard. If he was from USA, he would be a junior in the NCAA. Anyway, based on his age and how he is playing in the Euroleague playoffs, and considering he did not play until now (so he is rusty)…….

he is a very definite European player that should be drafted. He has size, versatility, defense, athletic ability, and he’s a very good passer, and creator for others. If he gets his handle and jump shot a little bit better……he would be a hell of a talent.

He should definitely be taken in the 2nd round of the draft this year as a “draft and stash”. He would kill the rookie camps, but he won’t get to play them now, since he is needed on Olympiacos.

That same thing happened to Olympiacos players Kostas Sloukas and Vangelis Mantzaris last year. They could not play the rookie camps because Olympiacos needed them for their league competitions. They would have killed at the rookie camps, but didn’t get to play there.

Unfortunately, same thing will happen to Katsivelis. But regardless, just like NBA teams SHOULD have drafted Mantzaris and Sloukas last year, the SHOULD draft Katsivelis this year.
