I’ve thought about who the Wolves will have as their starting SG next season, I can’t expect them to keep Ridnour starting there and it seems to be their one spot, assuming they re-sign Pekovic, that they need an influx of talent at. I assume they’ll want someone that can step in right away and play consistently, I’m sure they’ll also want someone with some potential left, but as long as Adelman is around he’ll want someone who doesn’t need to be coddled. The Wolves have some flexibility in that they have some players with value that they don’t necessarily see as players that are in their long terms plans. Derrick Williams is obviously one and most here in the TC don’t expect him to be back with the team. Out of all their players I feel they only have a few they like long term:

    Rubio/Shved
    Kirilenko/Budinger
    Love
    Pekovic

I tried creating a list in descending order of who they would have more interest in, some are Free Agents this offseason, others can be acquired through a trade:

    OJ Mayo
    Arron Afflalo
    Ben McLemore
    JJ Redick
    Kevin Martin
    Evan Turner
    Wes Matthews
    Gerald Henderson
    Alec Burks
    Jimmy Butler
    Shabazz Muhammad
    Victor Oladipo
    Avery Bradley
    MarShon Brooks
    Danny Green
    Iman Shumpert

Have at it, who do you think the Wolves 2013-14 starting SG will be?

I think from a draft standpoint – Victor Oladipo…I think he’d be a nice fit with Rubio in the backcourt, that’d be a heck of a defensive tandem, plus he brings some athleticism to the wolves lineup…Thats ofcourse assuming the Wolves dont make a big play in free agency

I think they need a pure shooter to pair with Rubio, as Rubio isn’t the greatest outside shooter, and neither is Andrei Kirilenko. OJ Mayo would be the best fit, and may benefit the most out of your list. I would also prefer to see Ben Mc or Wes Matthews to fill that two spot.

I think a big reason Adelman has kept playing Ridnour at the 2, depsite his defensive limitations, is because he wants two ball handlers out there at all times, same reason he plays Barea and Shved at the same time off the bench. If there’s one thing the Wolves have lacked is that they don’t have a SG than can isolate on the perimeter and get his own shot, it’s extremely evident in fourth quarters when defenses tighten up.

Agreed ^ they need an athletic guard who can create his own shot…A healthy Brandon Roy lol… but thats not realistic

McLemore probably wont be available by the time Minny picks… OJ Mayo would be decent but I can see Dallas locking him up for 3 years/24 mil

You never know. Minnesota could win the lottery and get to McLemore. Minnesota has been hit horribly with the injury bug the last two seasons so they deserve some luck.

Two ball handlers, but more importantly two players that can create for themselves. I think with Harkless, Orl will be willing to move Tobias Harris for a young player with a lot of potential. What about Minny giving them Derrick Williams for Afflalo and Harris? Afflalo brings the defensive/shooting at the 2g and Harris as we see has potential. He’s not an all-star talent, but looks to become a sf that you can throw the ball into let him score. I think he’s a good fit with Love since love likes to play out to the perimeter. Harris can pound smaller SF inside. Wolves can then draft a center with their lotto pick (most likely to get one of the top centers than they are to win the lotto and get Mclemore) whether or not they resign Pek. Orl can than focus on drafting a guard, Mclemore, Smart, Burke etc.

I don’t think there’s a big difference in value from Derrick Williams to Tobias Harris, I’m sure the Wolves would have to give up something else to acquire Afflalo too.

danny green is a great shooter and he has a nice pull-up game. I would also draft oladipo if he’s available

Mayo is probably the best fit. Redick would be a great signing as well being that he is a knock down shooter. It would also give them an all white starting 5 that hasn’t been seen in decades. I think Skip Bayless’s head would explode lol.

They need to take a look at Jeremy Lamb, assuming K-mart resigns with OKC.

I thought about adding him to the list, Terrence Ross too, but if Adelman is back next season he will want someone that’s ready to start and be consistent. I don’t think either are even close to that at this point.

    Trade Idea:

    Derrick Williams for Terrance Ross.
Both are stuck behind players on there depth charts. Each could potentially start.

    Free Agent Idea:

    Tyreke Evans
Sacramento might let him go and he can handle the ball.

    Draft Idea:

first pick: Marcus Smart: if he measures at least 6’4

second pick: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope: has potential and could get good coaching in minny potentially this would be with later pick.

    Other idea

First pick: Glenn Robinson III: potential starting small forward of future

Second pick: Tim Hardaway Jr: has the raw potential and has the blood lines and a year to grow into his own in the nba

I don’t know if Adelman and co. would be content trading one unproven player (Williams) for another (Ross), I think they want a SG that’s ready to contribute at a high level right away.

      How about this:

      Minnesota:
      Nikola Vucevic
      Arron Afflalo
      Tobias Harris

      Orlando:
      Nikola Pekovic (sign and trade)
      Derrick Williams
      Memphis 1st Round Pick

As a Magic fan, I can tell you that Vuc is the closest thing to an untouchable that they have. And with Vuc being five years younger than Pekovic, I doubt the Magic would go for it. I think they could go for a Afflalo/Harris for Williams/Memphis 1st/New Orleans 2nd though.

Hi there. Gary Harris in the draft is a nice option. My two cents. Take care. Thanks.

I would be looking at Marshon Brooks or J Lamb as both are underused and could be a great pickup.

Oladipo or even PJ Hairston through the draft….

Charlotte could take a shooting guard in the draft making Henderson expendable. Budinger can play 2 guard in a offensive role but would probably be suited better coming off the bench. There are going to be a decent amount of shooting guard available in the draft and in free agency. They could also trade for some players like Shannon Brown, Anthony Morrow, Rodney Stuckney, Marshon Brooks, etc.

Also remember Monta Ellis could be available depending on what he does.

I think that with all of the changes that will occur in the Kings roster after this season the Wolves should try and grab Thornton on a discount if they can. Thornton would work very well beside Rubio and would give them a legit scoring threat when everyone is focused on Love and Rubio.

Hi there. I can’t believe how smart a suggestion that is. Come from Montreal and the Raptors are always on. Amir Johnson works his butt off, but is not the most talented. Great trade idea. Take care. Thanks.

too bad he’s most likely unavailable, but i’d love to have Thabo Sefolosho as the starting 2 for this team. just brings everything Adelman is looking for his 2 guard. decent ball handler and decision maker, great defender and a spot up shooter. the guy is Doug Christie 2.0.

another player i’d like but wouldnt be availabe either is Gordon Hayward. I like his attitude and skill set and things he’ll be a great fit under rick adelman. but as far as i know, Utah is very high on him.

i suppose i’d like to have Turner out of your list since he can start and contribute currently. would like to see him improve his man to man defense though and outside shot, but its promising that he made a big bump in that department from last year.
