At 33 years old he can’t be thinking he will get another big pay day. I assume he will resign with Boston but what type of deal will he get at this age? I can imagine something like 2 years 35 million at the most.

It will be interesting to see what Boston does since they will likely lose Kyrie. Common sense says keep Rozier since he is a restricted FA and has done well in place of Kyrie. Marcus Morris will likely be gone so they will need to add a PF.

They do have 3 first round picks and I don’t see Ainge playing it safe after the regression they had this season. I just don’t know what type of deals would be out there.

Would Washington possibly be interested in giving up Bradley Beal for Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Aaron Baynes and a draft pick or two?

People in the Celtics media are talking about a 3yr/60mil+ deal.  A 2yr/35mil deal doesn’t really benefit Al because he could have taken 30mil this year and would likely get more than 5mil in 2020.

Exactly, Horford wouldn’t opt out of 30Mil next Year if there wasnt a handshake deal to bring him back for more years.

3 yrs at $60 seem possibille

or maybe even 4 yrs at $70

Either or would be worth it to me. Not an all star anymore but a guy that makes the team flow. Heck hes not that old really. He’s only 33! He could be a starter for another 2 or 3 years.

An update to this is Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald reporting that Horford is now expected to sign elsewhere.  Horford wants a 4yr deal while Boston was looking to bring him back for 3yrs.  If Boston loses Kyrie and Horford they can renounce the rights to Rozier, Morris, Theis in order to create 28mil in cap space.

This should of been negotiated before the opt out of his contract.

Ive always thought Ainge was overrated to what alot of ppl on here think.  Its all starting to go downhill now for the Celtics.

Ainge told NO to wait until now until they could offer them a better offer than Lakers – that never came around.  they have had quite a few draft picks and now looks like they are starting to struggle

To be fair Ainge told NO to wait till the offseason because Kyrie up until that point was commited to staying in Boston.  Now Kyrie is clearly about to leave so what’s the point in going all in on AD?  Rich Paul was publicly stating he didn’t want to stay in Boston and would leave after the season.

It’s already been reported he would opt-out and sign a 2-3 year deal with Boston..helps cap space.

Or is he waiting to see if Kyrie goes for sure, then jumping ship? I think that’d be a mistake, I think the Celtics were the 1st team to use him right.

It has been widely reported that Horford is going to resign with Boston but if Kyrie does move on would he commit to 3 years as he’d be pushing 36 before he next hit FA. Also would Ainge commit big money to Horford well into his mid 30’s ?

If Horford has turned down $30 million this year, he’d want 2 years worth at least $40 million as he could likely make $10 million as an FA next summer if he’d opted in. $60 million over 3 years might be a bit steep for teams but maybe say $52 to $55 million over 3 years may be more palitable with the final year being a player option.

For some reason I can see Al chase a championship and join up with LBJ and AD in LA, he’d be the anchor on D and AD can freelance more than he did in NO, Al stretches the floor and has a championship mentality

I think he’d accept 15 million per year for the next 3 years in the right scenario (LA)

Al Horford is far from done. If you don’t watch Celtics games, stats are not going to tell the story. He’s a very smart player and their offense works because of him. Very reliable jumper for a big and still a big time defender. If Boston refuse to re-sign him they’ll never get a FA again. Obviously this decision was cos he’s going to extend for longer, 3 years 50 mil minimum.

He has already earnt $160 mill just from bball, plus endorsement would take him over $200mill.

He looks like a high character guy.  I wouldn’t pay him anymore than 3 x $20 mill.  $15 to $20mill per season for the next 3 seasons would sound right.

Since last summer i always thought he would opt out to sign a 3 years 55MD deal…

But it was as a true title contender, WITH Kyrie as your 2ND best player, Horford as your 4th best player…

    What a failure.

Well Boston are absolutely done. Horford is going elsewhere, which means Kyrie is out as they will be out of contention. I cant see anyoen will want to trust the Celtics now after getting Horford to run down 30mil this year with view of signing a longer deal, then not playing ball with him. After selling IT down the river, that cannot go down well around the league.

The only possible thing they could do is to tie Hayward to a pick or two to move him for Chris Paul or Mike Conley and try and bang out a half decent season. Otherwise, I’d expect a fire sale moving on, keeping just Jaylen Brown, Jason Tatum and Robert Williams.

He should go to San Antonio, Denver or Dallas if he wants to win. If he’s happen to coach youngans, he should consider New Orleans or returning to Atlanta.

If Al did want to go all in for a title then he’d have a number of takers. I’ve said before I wonder what his dynamics with Kyrie are like because if Kyrie moves on, he might like Big Al alomgside him.

Also if Lakers take a more realistic approach to filling out theior roster and he’d accept say $10 to $12 million then he’d be an excellent guy alongside AD and LBJ.

Horford’s game is much more than his stats, his work on defence, all round game etc. He’s a far more effective player than the numbers he puts up, otherwise he wouldn’t be a 5 time All Star.

Report has some team already offered Horford a 4 year deal for 100 million.

Which GM would be that stupid to do so?

Sounds like a Marc Cuban move to me.
