    New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler left Wednesday’s preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets in the first quarter after bumping knees with Gerald Wallace.

    The injury occurred less than a minute into the game; Chandler immediately departed for the locker room. The Knicks declared shortly thereafter that Chandler would not return to the game with a “sore left knee.”

    Following New York’s 97-95 overtime victory, Knicks coach Mike Woodson mostly stayed mum on the subject of Chandler’s injury, according to Newsday, saying only that his center would be evaluated on Thursday. The New York Times reported that Woodson said that Chandler told him he was “fine.”

    The New York Daily News reported that Chandler left the locker room on crutches and will undergo an MRI on Thursday. Chandler indicated that he might have sprained his left knee.

    The two teams played the exhibition at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y.

    The 2012 Defensive Player of the Year averaged 11.3 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game in his first season with the Knicks last year.

    Chandler has one week to get healthy before New York’s regular season opener, against the Nets at the Barclays Center on Nov. 1.

     Wow. I hope it isn’t serious. Knicks are dead without Chandler. His contributions on offense are even more important that defense (see Dallas before Chandler, with Chandler and after Chandler or if you don’t want to review I will sum up: basically they go from a bad offense to a very good offense to again a bad offense).

     I don’t want anyone to get injured, but if you’re going to set a moving screen and poke your knee out to clip the guy running past in pres-season then I don’t have much sympathy for you; especially if you’re foolish enough to do it to a guy whose nickname is Crash.

    That said, I hope he recovers soon and no lasting harm is done.
