lakeshow22ParticipantWill Jeremy Lin actually get more votes than CP3 this season for the all star game? Yao Ming Started every year and Yi Jinlian finished top 5 most years for forwards and Lin is 10x more popular.
Dont forget to make things worst is that the All Star game is in Houston this year.
That would be one of the biggest travesty in Basketball Ever. Chris Paul is the best Point Guard in the NBA and Should lead the Clippers to a top 4 seed while Jeremy Lin could either shine or be a bust but will still get the votes regardless. and the Rockets will be the worst team in the west.(maybe NBA)
Alll Star game is a JOKE and there shouldnt be fan voting for this kind of reason. Also If lin starts that means CP3 goes to the bench and Westbrook who will probably be top 5 in scoring again and top 3 overall seed in the NBA but on the bench for the All Star game, Means Tony Parker Gets snubbed even if his team has the best record in the west?

Jlv2012Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian are real Chinese. Lin is Chinese-American.

geothermalParticipantchina and chinese taipie are in dispute trying to claim jeremey lin in there National Team, i think lin’s parents are from the mainland china, so he is eligible to play to china, if that happens then it would only make china a Basketball Juggernaut in Asia, Even without Yao Ming, they still dominate here

220ParticipantIf Jeremy Lin can average at least 16 points, 6 assists, and 1 steal per game, then he’d likely be a real threat for getting voted in as the All Star Game starter. I agree with the original poster that Lin at this point in terms of talent shouldn’t be the All Star Game starter, but there is a good chance that he gets voted to start. If Lin gets voted in as the starting point guard, then another very deserving point guard won’t make the all star team in all likelihood.

CodySLCParticipantBut its almost a sure thing. Considering China has 1 billion more people than the U.S. does.

joecheck88ParticipantFans should vote the last player or 2 in out of a pool of deserving players. I still think Chris Paul pulls out the start barring injury.

FastAndFuriousParticipantIf that happens they need to change the format of voting.

Sharp ShooterParticipantIts all about Marketing in the NBA nowadays especially in the All Star Game. They don’t care about who’s deserving or not. The way the NBA markets Lin last season (being on the cover of TIME mag, front page of NBA.com almost everyday), he’s almost a penciled in as an all star this year.Personally i really haven’t watched the last few ASG because there is not defense or heart played in that game..sure you don’t want your star players injured but at least make it entertaining,

LipstickParticipantHe almost made it last year. They need to change the voting to prevent things like this happening. I know it makes for good marketing but I haven’t watched more than a quarter from any All-Star game in the past five years.
Out of my own interests I’d propose that the winning conference gets home court advantage in the NBA Finals.

theballerwayParticipant16 and 6- you think he can get that much?
yh they even forced him into the rookie game as a late addition last year
yh its a shame and almost a diserespect to the real top pgs

Jeremy Lin and Kobe were tied essentially in efficiency per 48 minutes last year so if you want to talk shit about Lin you need to say the same about Kobe who is just getting older and worse and has no business starting over Westbrook and Paul next year.

TallmanNYCParticipantLake,
Yao was arguably the best center in the league many of the years that he started as an All Star. Only the first year was it really a travesty. Sure Shaq should have started that year. But after 2003 Yao was the man. You could make an argument for Shaq still, but Yao would have started in the East over Ben Wallace and there would be no complaints. Yao was a complete and dominant center at that point. You could have traded him straight up for just about anyone in the league. There was a huge China vote but it was also backed up by play on the court.
Lin isn’t as popular in China as Yao and Lin is unlikely to be a top PG in the league. And I’m a Lin fan. I’m laughing at the question above about if he can average 16 and 6. Seriously, without Melo hogging the ball 6 assists per game is in the bag. 16 points, well he could bring 20 but I don’t think he could do less than 14. But if CP3 continues to play like he is playing then there is no question he is the best PG in the game. CP3 will start. I think Lin is going to show that he is a legit high level starting PG. And well worth the money and that Dolan was an idiot not to resign him. But no, I don’t think Lin is going to play to the level of CP3. And even the Chinese fans will realize that.

TallmanNYCParticipantHmm, looking at my post, I think it seems like I’m saying Yao was better than Shaq after 2003. Shaq does start to go downhill, but that isn’t what I meant. I meant after Yao got through his rookie year he became a legit both sides of the court dominant center. That is a huge asset for any team. He could guard any player one on one in the post on defense (even Shaq) and you could run your offense through him play after play on offense. If you put KG and Duncan at power forward, then there isn’t a Center in the league except Shaq that I would want ahead of Yao in 2004 and for many years after that. What I’m saying is that it is no big deal if the second best center in the league starts over the best center in fan voting. McGrady getting voted on when he really couldn’t play that well was a bigger problem.
And I don’t think Lin is going to get to the level where he is in everyone’s list of top five PGs. So I don’t think he is going to be the level that Yao was.

JoeWolf1Chris Paul has a huge fan following in the states. You also have to remember, Yao was the best or 2nd best center in the league for the majority of his career. I have no doubt Lin will have a huge voting surge by the Chinese, but Yi never started, so if Lin isn’t producing at a near All-Star level then I doubt that he’ll be starting over Paul.
It’s a legit possibility, but don’t ignore the fact Yao deserved to start in the majority of the All-Star games he played in. The Chinese support Asian ball players, that is true, but if Lin is putting up 14 ppg 6 apg then I wouldn’t count on him beating out Chris Paul.
