Something I was just wondering about. Why are the rules different? Basketball is from the us so I would assume that FIBA would just use nba rules. It’s not like the world players can’t play by nba rules and it’s also not like FIBA rules give world players any special advantage over NBA players either. For instance is having the three pt line set at 22 feet somehow advantageous for world players? No they can play with nba 3 pt line and nba players can play with the fiba 3 pt line just fine also. Same with the trepezoid lane FIBA used to have. Soccer is from England and the rules are the same all around the world, same with almost every sport I can think of.

Then the players in the NBA got bigger, faster, stronger and better. So to adjust the NBA changed their rules to make the NBA game better. FIBA just hasn’t caught up yet.

Yeah i like the Fiba rules much better.

1, zone defense. it is legal on every level of basketball except for NBA. In the NBA  the illegal defense is the most inconsistant call and it puts defenders out of place, so when the offensive player drives to the hole,  the defender is late getting to the spot so there is almost always a fould call.

2  better perimeter defense with the checking and they dont call a million moving screens. if there is a foul, you earn it,

    3 shorter 3pt line.

Zone defense isn’t illegal in the NBA. Sorry to ruin that for you.

zone defense results in a one shot technical foul.  You are only allowed to play a " modified zone" with many restrictions. It is barely used because there are so many restriction so it like having no zone defense

    Wrong.

Teams can play zone ALL they want. Ask Flip Saunders.

What causes a one-shot technical foul is when a player gets a defensive 3 seconds in the key violation. NOT simply playing zone defense.
