Kendal Marshall Debut….Not impressed much 5 assist,5 TO’s, first game so i’ll give him a pass, 1 shot attempt.

Dion Waiters is good, but not #4 worthy struggling with his shot once again(5-15), Dwade comparisons need to stop, he does not have that extra gear or explosiveness like Wade.

Markieff Morris 24pts,17 boards…man amongst boys tonight.

Donald Sloan is a solid PG, strong and can penetrate and pass, good back up for Kyrie.

     03-04: 50% jumpshots (37.1% EFG), 50% inside (58.6%)

    04-05: 53% jump (38.9% EFG), 47% inside (59.1%)

    05-06: 60% jump (39.3% EFG), 40% inside (66.2%)

    06-07: 62% jump (40.3% EFG), 38% inside (67.1%)

    07-08: 65% jump (39.1% EFG), 35% inside (64.9%)

    08-09: 66% jump (44.2% EFG), 34% inside (65.9%)

dwyane wade and dion waiters are so similar its ridiculous waiters is a freak athlete who csan get to the whole almost at will and struggles shooting the j,waiters has been shooting alot of jumpers in summer league and as you can see dwyane wade was a 38 percent shooter for jumpshots his rookie season which is awful

wade also averaged 13.4 pts per game in summer league waiters is at 12 points right now with games to play remember mna wade only averaged 16 pts 4 bounds 4 assists and shot 46 percent  a game as a rookie its not like he came into the league averaging 20 plus you cant compare waiters to wade now he hasnt played an nba game yet, however waiters from the eye test and style is very similar to wade as a rookie no doubt

Dion Waiters needs to relax and let his game come to him. The only thing he should be pushing is when going to the rim which he’s learning to do. I think given his ability to create for others and his ability to get to the rim if he can apply his jumpshot in the mix he will be a very good player. Especially when Kyrie returns and defenses plan for him, rather than Dion I think it will create a lot more chances for Dion to attack in different ways. 16 Points
    5-15 shooting, 2 AST, 2 Steal

Markieff Morris showed that he’s a sophmore. He dominated the game for Pheonix and basically gave them a chance to stay in it. I saw him not only creating for himself but for others. Not to mention the vocal part he was playing when on the court. 24 Points, 17 Rebounds, 2 AST

Kendal Marshall is going to need to work on attacking the basket and his jumpshot. Numerous times tonight Marshall had great looks at the basket but instead of attacking decided to pass without even considering what he coudl’ve created for himself. He also never looked to take his own shot expcet for once after a timeout when he took a shot and airballed it, I hope PHX knew that this kid wasn’t going to be Steve Nash "immediately" and can bare with him while he gets better. 0 Points, 5 AST, 3 STL

Donald Sloan is a solid backup PG and will help the Cavaliers a ton. His ability to get in the lane was pretty good and I enjoyed watching him at times run past defenders to get the quick lay in. 13 PTS, 1 AST, 0 STL

Tyler Zeller had an off game, he wasn’t use to defending Morris and had a lot of issues when being guarded by Morris because of his mobility and the fact Zellers shot just wasn’t dropping. Very Solid player all around though. 10 PTS, 12 Rebounds, 1 AST

All around good outing for the Cavaliers, Pheonix did alright also but honestly I didn’t see much besides Waiters getting to the basket that impressed me about this game. Final Score – Cavaliers 89 – PHX 74

still throwing up that little flip/hook shot. Never anything with power just jumpers and a flippy hook thing. I just think he sopppp soft. His jumpers looks like his main weapon down the line.

So soft that he put up 10 and 12 rebounds compared to the blah numbers of second year banger tristian Thompson. I’ll take that soft slip shot guy who gets a double double any day

Byron Scott said Waiters reminded him of Wade – not Waiters’ problem.

However, I saw one play in the highlights where he split 2 defenders on a high pick and got into the lane with ease did a spin move and layed it in taking the contact (and1)…. absolutely a Wade move

Waiters is a player in the DWade kind of mold, but I think his ceiling is closer to Rodney Stuckey than DWade.

DWade was a monster in college.  Waiters was a monster for a couple games, then had some decent games, and then a lot of awful shooting games.  DWade has always been a great defender.  Waiters looks about as good a defender as Steve Nash right now.

Waiters is definitely out of shape right now though, so who knows when he gets back in shape (assuming he does), but his jumpshot has poor mechanics, he has poor shot selection, and he just isn’t smooth getting into his shot.  Only attacking the rim.  Wade struggled as a shooter earlier in his career, but he at least showed a good foundation to develop it.  Waiters doesn’t have that.

I am not going to bring up Wade in this discussion as there is no point. To say though that Waiters does not have a good foundation on his jumper is just wrong. His mechanics are solid all around normally with the exception of one thing – his balance.  He fades away almost every time without needing too. That being said, his elevation, elbow positioning and height on his release are all good. Staying centered while going up for jumpers is an easy thing to fix. Two months of repetition in the gym with the Cavs coaching staff, you will see a completely different player.

Well you probably know better than every other analyst that has said his wonky shooting motion is a bit worrisome.  Hell, they were just talking about it last night.  The announcer was saying his form is poor and he has questions whether he’ll ever become a consistent shooter.

He has a hitch in his shot, poor footwork, and isn’t smooth getting into it.  And it’s showed so far in the summer league.  He’s been missing most of his shots BADLY.

You are talking about one analyst, Brent Barry. Yes he did mention that he has questions whether or not he can become a consistent shooter. Waiters track record says that he will be fine shooting the basketball. There was never a mention of a hitch in Waiters’ shot nor does he have one. I don’t need an analyst to tell me that. In Barry’s defense, he has probably only seen Waiters in Summer League.

Agreed that Waiters is in the Wade mold but I don’t see Wade ceiling in him either. I also like the Stucky comparison.  Only time will tell what he will become though

Waiters reminds me more of a Baron Davis whose focus is more on scoring than distributing.

Waiters and Baron Davis are both about 6-4, 210 pounds, sturdy, with a knack for getting to the rim, a little too flashy at times, fairly disappointing percentages and questionable shot selection, but too much talent to take off the floor. They’ll give coaches headaches at times with regard to lackluster effort, but they can make scoring look easy at times.

Neither are horrible perimeter shooters, but neither are great either. They’re just inconsistent. They can both be extremely aggressive when they want to be, but sometimes settle for dumb shots.

In his peak years, Waiters will settle in at between 15 and 19 points, probably between 40 and 45 percent FG, and between 32 and 35 percent from 3. He of course won’t be anywhere near the seven assists Baron Davis has averaged.

Except Baron was a clear pg. other than that I can kind of see it. Then again you can plug in any 6’4 strong body athletic SG into the comparison debate

Yeah, the one big difference is Baron was a much better ball-handler/passer than Waiters IMO.

I think Waiters will end up being best suited to be a sixth man.  Same with Austin Rivers in my opinion.  But we’ll see.  As an SU student, I’m rooting for Waiters, but I think he got away with a lot of poor play and mistakes this past year that people just blew off because of his highlight plays.  I honestly think Scoop was better this year for Syracuse than Waiters was (but Waiters is BY FAR the better NBA prospect lol).

Waiters is also about 10 lbs overweight.  Give him a chance to get into shape.

I have seen Waiters make Wade like moves but he isn’t as explosive and it looks like he has little interest in playing defense while Wade is a beast and possibly the best shot blocking guard ever. Just because a player breaks out a play every once in a while that is reminiscent of a star player does not make them a star.

Over the years watching the Sixers I have seen Andre Igoudala make passes that look like Magic Johnson but nobody anywhere would say that Iggy reminds them of Magic.
