sammybuckeye13ParticipantMWAHAHAHAAHAHAHHHHHHH.
hah.
Excuse me. Ahem.
Without a lotto pick for the first time in a couple years, these forums have been mostly (which is to say, mercifully) devoid of rabid discussion among Jazz fans regarding the Jazz’s pick. It’s very likely that Utah will stick with their one pick, which falls at #47 (the exact spot at which the Jazz drafted Mo Williams and Paul Millsap), but then again, who knows?
As reported by Chad Ford earlier today:
"Fear not, Jazz fans. GM Kevin O’Connor is exploring ways to move up in the draft. They have the Warriors’ pick in 2013 (top-six-protected) and veterans like Paul Millsap, Al Jefferson and Devin Harris, and they might even be willing to add another young player (as long as you don’t ask for Derrick Favors or Enes Kanter).
The question is, how high can they go? Their presumed target is Weber State’s Lillard. They need a point guard and know him better than any team in the league. But if they could get higher and get an even better prospect, they would. They like Beal and Kidd-Gilchrist a lot, too."
I am a big proponent of the Jazz moving into the lottery and they certainly have the assets to do it. Wanting Lillard isn’t really news, but Beal and MKG? It initially seemed that the Jazz wouldn’t get more ambitious than making a deal with Portland (Millsap, who the Blazers love, and GS’s 2013 top-6 protected pick, presumably), but could they grab Beal or MKG?
Those names popping up is certainly a surprise as they seem oretty content for the future with Burks at SG, Hayward at SF, Favors at PF and Kanter at C. Lillard would be the most obvious trade target, but why not theorize about Beal or MKG while we’re at it? As Ford notes, the Jazz have arguably the most intriguing collection of trade assets n Millsap, Jefferson, Harris and the GS pick, not to mention Burks, Hayward and Kanter should a truly irresistible deal cross hit their desk (basically, every Jazz player is either a great expiring contract or great young talent).
As for Beal, what’s a potential move? Would Millsap, Burks and GS’s pick while taking Tyrus Thomas back be enough? Maybe not, but if they wanted to go further they could while still having a great core considering their stock of enticing contracts and young guys. For MKG, should they bank on him falling to 5, they could offer the Kings the same deal while taking back a bad deal.
Do the Jazz make a move or is that all just sourceless speculation? Probably the latter, but, you know, this might be us Jazz fans’ last chance to blow up these forums.

CodySLCParticipantI personally think we will. We have to move Millsap or Jefferson anyways. We might as well get a local star pg we can build around. I highly doubt we can get our on hands on MGK. And probably zero chance we get Beal with how coveted he is by teams already. Just because we want them doesn’t mean it will happen. Its a nice thought tho. Bottom line, if we don’t make a trade tomorrow involving a rookie, we will make one before the season starts for a veteran player.

Captain LParticipantI don’t think the Jazz can get the kind of value out of Milsap or Jefferson that they will want in order to move up . Milsap and Jefferson are close to being All star quality players and historically only 3 players in the whole draft become allstars, if you say Paul and Al are just starters then about 10 of the players in the draft will reach that level, Paul and Al are proven , these guys in the draft are not proven and may not even be good enough to become starters. That is why I don’t think the Jazz will trade Paul or Al, other teams may not values them that high but I think the Jazz FO do and they won’t give them up unless they feel they can get what they will consider starters that could end up being All Stars. That being said, I hope something happens and we can get a long athletic 3, Parry Jones would be a great get.

no skillsParticipanti am begging that we make a splash in this draft. i like many jazz fans am drooling at the thought of having lillard on our team. yeah it may be a long shot but its doable. i worry about the rockets with all the trades they are making that it will hurt the chances of us making a trade to get a player we want out of the draft but hey its good intertainment right now

bobforteParticipantI think it would be perfect getting rid of jefferson or millsap because not only would have the possiblity of picking up lillard or if the right offer maybe even mkg to go along with the young core, it would also probably change the style of play to a little more up tempo. Which i think would help some of those young guys develop.
