When STAT was out hurt in the last weeks off the season Melo at the 4 worked well for them. Melo doesn’t play D at the 3 so don’t go telling me he’ll do worse at the 4. Also he has the perfect C next to him outside of Howard. Now for this to work the have to trade STAT which would be hard, but not impossible.

Melo isn’t a consistent enough aggressive rebounder, he’s great on the offensive boards but the Knicks would sorely lack in the rebound category. Melo has 10rpg potential but doesn’t do so.

What they should do it trade Chandler and Stoudemire for Howard and Anderson. Anderson is the type of 4 who can play off of Melo’s post game while stile getting 8 boards a game

    Howard 21 and 14

    Anderson 14 and 8

    Anthony 25 and 8

Best frontline in the NBA hands down

Do you want the Magic to give up their 1st born, wallet and SSN with that trade as well?

playing Melo at the 4 is doable but you will get outrebounded in some games, but it will stretch the court.

trading Amare is the hard part and I would say near impossible unless you want a bunch of people that equal his salary but aint no good. Amare’s body is falling apart, his contract is big and uninsurable. Finding someone to take that salary as everyone tries to get to the 64million cap number will be the hardest thing since the Kings traded Webber after injuries

Isn’t Carmelo like a 5-6 rebounds per game guy for his career?? NO, he shouldn’t play PF….

The problem with moving Melo to the 4 is that while he has a mismatch advantage against most teams at the PF spot, they still won’t be able to get by Miami, because Lebron is just as capable of playing the PF and shutting him down.

It will work in the regular season, but Melo at the 4 is a crutch, he needs to drop weight and commit to playing the SF position if the Knicks are going to be successful.

I agree, Stat is nearly untradeable at this point. It would have to be for contracts like Turkolo or someone else equally bad and locked into a bad long-term deal. But Stat has a lot of pride and I think he will work hard to get back his hops and with that will come some of his game. I’m expecting a little bounce back to his game next year.

The problem is, in case you haven’t notice, Woodson isn’t really a very creative coach. He sticks with veterans and the status quo. The results haven’t been good for him in his career so far. But if he gets creative, then yes, some Melo at 4 will work. I’d also like to see Stat at the 5 from time to time. Basically there should be very few minutes when Stat, Melo and Chandler are on the court at the same time even if Stat gets his old game back. He and Chandler at the same time is a problem because Chandler has no range and Stat really doesn’t have any either though he shoots lots of long jumpers.
