JoeWolf1Which players are longshots in the 2012 draft, but you are fans of?
For me, it has to be Jet Chang.
I hadn’t heard of him until the Portsmouth, but became an instant fan when I started to see his game. He’s a fearless offensive player, and put up an semi – impressive 13 ppg in the Portsmouth, but he’s not very well rounded. He hung with a lot of D1 prospects during the tournament, but didn’t emerge as a top 5 prospect after the tourney.
He measured okay athletically at 6’3” with a 6’6” wingspan and a 30” no step vert, but I think the chance he gets drafted is probably 5%.
Who are your favorites who are extreme long shots?

rickybobbyParticipantJustin Watts of North Carolina
Watched him play all 4 years in his limited amount of playing time. A legit 6’5 strong SG who’s a very good athlete. His calling card is his hustle and defense and a surprisingly high basketball IQ. Played out of position his whole career so he never developed any perimeter skills, or a legit jumpshot, but is a tireless worker who going to do what ever is needed to win.
I think there’s basically a 0% chance of him getting drafted or even getting picked up by a summerleague team. His best career move would be to go over seas and play, but i wouldn’t be surprised if he someday later in his career worked his way up and made the league in a defensive/hustle guy type role with a 10 day contract or something, because thats just the kind a person he is.

providencefriars1ParticipantRakim Sanders- reppin RI but is kind of undersized and is not a great shooter. I say 25% chance of being drafted
Jason Clark/ Hollis Thompson- Ive seen these two guys play a lot. Clark is an undersized two and I think is worthy of a second round pick, I say 40% chance of being drafted. Hollis Thompson had a shot at the 1st round in 2013 but he left a year too early. I give him 25% chance of being drafted this year

BruinSteveParticipantBeing a UCLA fan I hope Lazeric Jones gets drafted. He was our MVP last year for a young and undisciplined team. After transferring from JUCO he was the only person you could really count on night in and out(after the Reeves Nelson problems and Josh Smith’s weight issues). He averaged 14 points and 4 assists, and was a good defender due to his quickness and long arms(6’7 wingspan for 6’0 pointguard). There is probably a 1 percent he gets drafted but I hope he gets invited to a camp and can somehow stick with a team due to his leadership and exceptional workethic and be a royal ivey type player in this league.

usfballerParticipantRobbie Hummel. Almost knocked runner up Kansas on his own AFTER multiple knee surgeries.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantIf Hummel doesnt get drafted..Memphis will invite him to their training camp…Hollins said he loves his instincts, intensity & outside shooting..They want to see him in workouts ,how he does in drills and have their trainers and doctors look at his knees…

The QParticipantHenry Sims- The guy turned his career around after 3 years of sucking, but I think his lack of good big man skills (shot blocking and rebounding) will keep him out of the league. Hollis Thompson as well although I think his shooting gives him a shot.
Renardo Sydney- I should hate this guy cause he’s a lazy slug, but I hate when guys this talented throw their careers away.

RUDEBOY_Participant1.Renaldo Sidney-Might have more god given talent then any guy rated to go in the top 10..But his career at Mississippi State was a major disappointment….Some team will give him an invite to training camp…
2.Peter Roberson-7 Footer from Grambling,he has a nice face up game, decent rebounder and runs the floor well..I dont think he’s getting drafted..Maybe some team will give him a look..
3.Mile Plumlee-1 of my favorite college players..
4.Casper Ware…

tjmartin23ParticipantJesse Sanders from Liberty. All most averaged a triple double with 12.5-7.8-8 as a 6’3 point guard. Only player in NCAA history to at least one triple double in all four years.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantI have a feeling if he doesn’t get drafted, he’ll just go overseas, but I want to see him succeed. Yeah, I’m biased being a Badger and all, but he’s worked really hard throughout his college career, and he deserves to play at the next level, whether it’s in the NBA or somewhere in Europe/Middle East/China.

JNixonParticipantAshton Gibbs. Gibbs was my favorite player from his Soph season on. Im just a sucker for jump shooters or tall PG’s. Gibbs was a sharp, sharpshooter and I liked his confidence and swagger on the court. Never seemed fazed by anything and really was clutch. I hate that his Sr. season went as bad as it did, I really wanted him to prove he could be a PG and still be efficient enough to be an NBA PG. He didnt, and it was hard to watch Pitt alot of times last year.

YSUFan10ParticipantWendell Mckines, Garrett Stutz, Yancy Gates, Jarrod Jones, and Julian Mavunga. I think that Gates has a 50% chance of getting drafted, while Stutz, Mckines and Jones have much lower chances. But out of all those players I really think that Julian Mavunga can make it in the league because he is so versatile. He is a great rebounder, a decent three point shooter, and he is very strong and tough in the post. He doesn’t exactly have a true position if he is a three or four, but I think he could be a better shooting version of Ivan Johnson for a team. I think that he most likely won’t get drafted, but he can make it as an undrafted player on an nba squad.

llperezi would like to see jorge guttierez of cal get drafted. But hes an older senior i believe like 24 already and he didnt stand out at the portsmouth at all either. I saw him play in a pro-am game and he didnt really look like a pro. BUt he is tenacious and will work hard for wherever he does end up getting paid to play basketball.

drew619Participanti hope jet chang could get drafted. i remember watching him in the D-2 championship a couples years ago and he is a great scorer but of course coming from a lower level could only hope for him to be an instant offense player off the bench

JunkYardDogParticipantno love for dee bost…?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/13/2012 - 8:42pm #669782

scbe2223ParticipantDee Bost will probably go in the second. Some team will take a chance on him in hope that he can be a good backup point.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantYancy Gates should get drafted in the 2nd ound…He’s the type of guy that can look great in workouts…He has a nice post game, decent athlete & shooter..Every year there seems to be a guy a team drafts in the 1st round that SHOCKS everyone..This year Gates might be that guy..But his attitude can be almost as worse than Sidney’s at times..That fight against Kenny Frease and Xavier earlier this year is still fresh in alot of folks minds…
Dee Bost has 1st round talent….Reminds me of Brandon Jennings a little…People talk about this is a down year for point guards…There arent any superstar pgs,but guys like Bost,Wayns,Tru Holloway,Zack Rosen & Machado will make some teams very happy..Becuz they’re 4 year guys that are hard nose, decent passers, have good instincts, fearless, good shooters and know how to play…

JoeWolf1@Bucketsfordays,
I think his measurements did him a favor, and you’re right, he is a specialist so that gives him some hope for filling a nitch of a guy off the bench sent in to score with the 2nd unit. If he doesn’t get drafted, I think he’ll get a chance in the summer league. He is a really fun player to watch.

AKOOParticipantYeah I say D Bost. I don’t think he makes it but the guy can definitely run pick and roll.
