The Utah Jazz locker room was not a particularly happy place this year, and with their season now over, some of the players (Raja Bell and CJ Miles, in particular) spoke up about their issues with head coach Ty Corbin.

From the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune: “The morning after being swept by San Antonio, most Utah Jazz players talked about how satisfying their past playoff season was and expressed optimism for the future. And then there was Raja Bell. The 12-year veteran has one season remaining on his three-year deal with the Jazz, but he is convinced his stay in the Beehive State is over. Bell started his candid nine-minute interview at Tuesday’s locker clean-out with the verbal bombshell, ‘I don’t think I have a future with the team.’

Bell’s biggest beef was about a communication gap with his coach, something that dates back to the 2010-11 season when he was displeased with the way Corbin told him about his decision to move him to a reserve role at the end of the year. ‘I just thought that the way I was handled by Ty was unprofessional,’ Bell said. A lack of dialogue at the end of the season and in the playoffs — coupled with Bell being the only healthy Jazz player to not see any postseason action — soured the veteran to the point that he doesn’t see a future here. ‘When it gets to a point where there’s absolutely no communication for months on end,” Bell said, “I think we all know that that’s irreparable damage.’

Longtime Utah small forward C.J. Miles said he was proud of what his team accomplished and is open to returning next season. But the seven-year veteran joined Bell in questioning Corbin’s communication skills, pointing toward deep-rooted issues that sometimes undercut the team’s improved chemistry this year. Much of Bell’s frustration the last two seasons stemmed from a lack of dialogue and understanding. Miles often felt the same, and he could no longer hold his tongue after quietly sitting back and doing everything the Jazz asked of him the past few years. Morevoer, Miles said, communication between Utah and its players was much better when Jerry Sloan coached the team. Corbin replaced Sloan in February 2011. ‘Being able to know what’s going on makes everything a lot easier,’ said Miles. ‘You don’t want to have to come in guessing. … I don’t even remember us naming a captain. But they wanted leadership?’”

Utah really needed Raja Bell against the Spurs. The team only had one other healthy shooter active in Gordon Hayward, and he had a horrible series. I know other Jazz fans don’t like Raja, but he is a playoff veteran that can really get in the heads of other perimeter players with his aggressive defense. The only other players that had a positive impact for us defensively were DeMarre Carroll and Derrick Favors.

I definitely think the Jazz would have been more competitive if Bell got more playing time. Would like to see him starting and playing 20-24 minutes per game for the team next year while we groom Burks into the player we think he can be. Looks like Corbin shut the door on that possibility by refusing to play Bell in the playoffs. Too bad.

Honestly the Jazz dont need either of these guys. Raja Bell plays hard, and good D. But he’s an old man with no offensive game besides a 3 point shot. And its clear we are having a youth movement and looking for a serious upgrade on the perimiter. C.J. has shown flashes, but he’s a vet now and has never really made the jump or been consistant. I could see him maybe returning but idk. If there bad mouthing Ty i wouldnt be surprised to see them both gone by next season. The Jazz organization doesnt put up with stuff like this, especally from average players.

raja bell hasnt been that good of a defensive player since he left phoenix. Bell was never a knockdown shooter anyway since he joined utah so im not sure he would have helped much against the spurs. if i was the Utah franchise i would just rebuild by moving paul millsap and giving Kanter and favors more time. Hopefully ud get a really goood player for milllsap

CJ Miles, Martell Webster and Marvin Williams all fit into that category of "guys that will occasionally do something great but for the majority of the time, they’re unspectacular and have limited potential"

Ty Corbin will have to work on his communication if he wants to be a great coach. That’s the last thing you want to do is lose the respect of your players.

I mean, not communicating is bad period. I mean, a grown man who doesn’t communicate? You can’t be successful at most things and have bad communication.

if I were Raja Bell or CJ Miles.  Can’t be easy being subpar bball players at the back of the bench.

I’m actually a fan of CJ Miles. I think last year when given minutes he proved he has some decent potential and can make an impact. Earlier in the season before losing all of his minutes, he was actually like a potential go-to threat down the stretch. Part of his biggest issue is that he is consistently forced into the SF position when he’s much more naturally a 2.

Move on CJ, find a new home on a team where your talents can actually be used.

i think corbin is still raw as a coach and because he has not been a head coach for long he has not earned the respect that a more experenced coach has. honestly as a jazz fan i am not sold on corbin yet. i love raja but with sloan gone he just does not fit in as well so i think its time for him to part ways with the jazz. as for cj i think its best for him to move on

Bell and CJ both lost playing time because they played poorly. Now they need someone to blame for their lack of success.  That is the reality behind this story.

Corbin probably is raw.  CJ actually is a nice kid that has shown flashes.  Bell used to be a good player.  I genuinely hope they have success somewhere else and I’m very glad they’ll be gone next year.  And this remains a simple story about athletes who are bitter about riding the pine.

I have been critical of corbin since early in the season, and thought people had over rated him quite a bit at this stage of his career, and gave him too much credit for the team’s success.

But throughout a season of rookie mistake’s, his descision to bench these 2 scrubs, was one of the best of the season. He gave both these guys ample oppurtunity this season, way more than they ever deserved and they did absolutely nothing with it. Cj’s shooting percentage the last 5 season’s .479, .459, .429, .407 and this season .381. That’s the only argument anyone needs against CJ, he has never improved , and his shot selection has gotten more and more atrocious every single season. All i have to say is good riddance..

They owe him an apology because they are both trash players just like all the Jazz guards. When Gordon Hayward is your best perimeter scorer you have no business making the playoffs. They are very good inside but need to deal one of those bigs and get a freaking guard in there. You can’t blame the coach on this one, he should be commended for the job he did.

I wouldn’t say they’re trash, they both have certain roles they fit very well in if utilized correctly. I didn’t really watch much of the Jazz this year so I can’t really comment on Corbins coaching skills. But I do feel no player should just come out and blast their coach like this, it’s unprofessional. If you have a problem with a coach, let the higher ups know, not the media. The media takes this stuff and runs with it.

All in all they just lost 0-4 in the playoffs, it was probably just heat of the moment comments, and I’m sure Raja regrets how it went down, even if he truely does want off the team.

Furthermore communication is a two way street, if he fealt the coach was not communicating properly he should have the initiative to confront Corbin himself and see what they can work out, and where each person stands.
