So Kevin Durant won the scoring title.  That will give him 3 straight scoring titles.  He already has more scoring titles than Kobe, Shaq, and Kareem.  The only other players to win 3 straight scoring titles or more are George Mikan, Neil Johnston, Wilt Chamberlain, Bob McAdoo, George Gervin, and Michael Jordan.

MJ and Wilt have the record of 7 straight.  KD is four away but if he wants to he can win a bunch more scoring titles.  I really don’t see any threats to the scoring titles with Kobe aging, and LeBron more focused on winning and passing (Wade also scores a lot too).  Durant has 3 scoring titles in only 5 NBA seasons and could make a run at seven straight.

Jordan’s 10 total scoring titles is the most ever.  That is a huge number, but if anyone in today’s league can get close it is Kevin Durant.

George Gervin and Allen Iverson have 4 scoring titles each and I see Durant passing that.  KD is the favorite to win it again next year and will then only need one more to pass the Iceman and AI.

Only Wilt and MJ have won 4 or more titles in a row so KD can accomplish that feat next year.

Even if Durant doesn’t reach Jordan’s record of 10 total scoring titles or 7 in a row he could easily get 4, or 5 with a shot at getting 6, 7, or 8 by the time he is done.

If so, then he will clearly be one of the all-time scoring greats, just behind Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain.  Durant can also attack 30,000 points for his career or pass Kareem’s all-time record of just over 38,000 points.

Kevin Durant can score at will, and his chase of the all-time greats is picking up steam…

I think KD will end up being the best scorer of his generation.  I could see Kevin Love approaching that level and challenging him for a scoring title next year or the year after.  He was averaging 27.5 ppg after the All-Star break until he got hurt.

The Month of Feb he put up 30.7 ppg including two 40 point games and one 50 point game.

lebron could challenge him if he wants but lebron is more a passer and shares the ball with wade. Kobe is getting old like you said although he could have had this one if he wanted it. Durant should be able to score 30 a game for quite a long time and right now and there is no one else out there that i can say that about so yeah he could be one of the all time great scorers if he stays healthy.

yeah, definately a scoring machine.  His jumpshot is a thing of beauty and he is right up there amongst the best pull-up three point shooter in the league.  Total freak of nature as raspy said.

I’M Surprise Kobe is sitting out 2nite’s game..I Figured he wanted this scoring title..With Durant getting 32 last nite,Kobe needs 38 to win the title..But i Guess getting healthy and ready for the playoffs and winning a Ring and Catching Jordan is MORE IMPORTANT then getting a scoring title and Catching Gervin & Iverson…

all i can add is that we are witnessing history!!!!!!!

scarier part about it is, he’s still getting better. i see this guy getting an unstoppable nowitzki-esque high post one-legged jumper. he has shown more flashes of doing it than anybody in the league (kobe is a dead man walking). i also see him sliding to the 4 with much ease in the future… when the athleticism starts fading.

    kd vs lbj= history

when it’s all said and done, Durant will be one of the greatest to ever play the game.  It’s hard to believe he hasn’t turned 24 yet.  He has yet to hit his prime!

I don’t mean this as an insult to him, but Russell Westbrook is one of the threats to Durant ammasing all of those scoring tittles. I don’t mean this in a dorogatory way, but in the way that Westbrook has the potential to get 26 a game, and if he does, I’m pretty sure that’ll take away touches from Durant. Durant will still get 26 or 27 a game, but Westbrook’s dominance will prevent Durant from scoring 35 a game, and it’s not a bad thing, we’ll get to witness one of the greatest duos in the history of the game, and Durant should still easily get 30,000, barring injury. The future is bright though, and the sky is the limit.

And Kobe and Durant’s birthdays are in August and September respectively, so not much of a difference there, so at the end of the season when they were each 23 years old, Kobe was at 8,197 because he didn’t get much PT early on, but he had year on Durant, and Durant currently has 9,978, one game away from the 10,000 plateau. I know KObe had some amazing scoring years, but Durant is already a bit ahead, and we see that Kobe has had to completely transform his game into fadeaway jumpers, I feel Durant will be able to do exactly the same whe the time comes.

I’ll be very interested to see how his career ends up, he very well could end up with a better career than anyone else in the league even Kobe if he keeps this up and can win some titles. He’s still very very young.
