I’ll gladly take him in New Jersey to back up Lopez. We have nothing to lose, but D-Will.

This is the right move to make for both parties. Blazers need to cut ties and Oden needs a change of scenary. I for one hope he lands with the Suns so we can really see how good their medical staff is.

Wow.  The Blazers really are just blowing everything up.  Just think if they didn’t have such terrible luck with knees.

Anyways, I think Miami or Boston will take a chance on him because they both desperately need a center.

I want him in Golden State. IF his knees hold up (and I know that that’s a giant if) he could be great. And Bogut’s such a questionmark on health anyway.

More importantly, I think we need to steal the Suns training staff away. Curry and Bogut on the same team? An injury waiting to happen.

Milwaukee doesnt have a center on their roster, short term Gooden would be a nice stretch 4 to pair with Oden. (btw Nice triple double by Gooden only playing 3 quarters last night). Oden is low risk high reward though, hopefully he makes it back.

I see him in Miami. If they wanted Eddy Curry, they’re going to need Greg Oden.

I don’t know if Greg would be willing to go to Boston, but I think that would be a good fit. The Celtics really need some young big bodies, because their front court current includes an old KG, an old Jermaine O’ Neal, and some face up 4s that aren’t really anything more than good rotational players. Oden should have a lot of options though because of the shortage of bigs across the league, and Oden should be a low risk high reward type player assuming he doesn’t get a big contract.

Chicago, he’d be some defensive insurance in case they end up losing Asik and a 3rd big if they don’t.  They’ll be able to get him for cheap, and at this point in his career 15 mpg is probably all he can handle.

Since portland is in full rebuild i think its great that they have an established player in Aldrige and a budding all-star potential player in Batum. With their cap space and likely two lottery picks next year they are in a great position to rebuild quickly.

But on a another hand Oden should have many suiters with the lack of quailty centers.

I wouldn’t mind Oden going to the Heat. They need a C, and if he is healthy than it is a good risk. If he isn’t, then the Heat are were they are now, which isn’t a bad place in any way in the grand scheme.

Cleveland? Let him build his confidence up, let him split minutes with Varejo. Come back to Ohio for a one year contract?
Not a bad idea is it?

This is tough for me to write, but it’s possible Oden won’t play again.

He’s had microfracture twice on the same knee, which is just unheard of. He’s had microfracture once on the other. He’s had a chipped kneecap in one of the knees, which led to the broken patella. And who knows what else is wrong with his knees. I mean, he’s getting injured and not even playing. What’s wrong with his body?

I think Portland releasing him is for the best. Oden needs a change of scenery. I assume he’ll come back to Indianapolis in order to be close to his family, etc. Mike Conley Sr. is still living here and he’s got an excellent training staff here. I assume he’ll bust his ass to get physcially and mentally healthy, and then give it another go at some point next season. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up staying right here in Indianapolis and signing with the Pacers.

    The ones I like best.

Cleveland – Low pressure and in his home state. Very true.

Phoenix – Has the best medical staff. Very good point.

    Miami – Low risk/High reward

OKC, I like OKCs medical staff and they need depth at the front court. Not to mention OKC would have the 1st and 2nd pick of the 2007 nba draft (^o^)

    @DurantsWingspan

    Cleveland isn’t Oden’s home state… Indiana is.

I can’t see him signing in OKC considering the fact he’ll forever be linked with Kevin Durant as it is.

I could see LeBron recruiting him to join Miami. He’s always been a supporter of Oden since his high school days.

He could give the Suns a look, but I think he’s ready to get away from that side of the country. IF I had to take a guess, I think it’ll be between the Pacers, Bulls and Heat.

He seems to have a good relationship with Mike Conley Jr. so he could be a great backup to Gasol there…Also the Sixers have always loved Oden’s defensive potential and they have another Buck Eye Alum in Turner..I’m with you though IB, I think he’ll give The Pacers a good look, after that I can see him go the Cavs, Grizzlies or Celtics…

IF Oden ever returns to the court fully healthy, nhe will be a very good center. Whe n he went down in 09, he was averaging 11 and 8 in just 23 minutes a game. He was a legend waiting to happen. I really hope he gets it right, and if he wen to Miami, my god that would be a dangerous team. If either OKC or Miami gets him, just hand the tittle to them.

I surely hope you’re wrong about Oden possibly not playing again… It’s really unfortunate for this very humble kid to be in such worst luck but this could be a fresh start that he needed… Portland needed to blow up the whole team and decided for a new beginning and Oden deserves the same too… I am praying that he could still give a much needed boost to a championship-caliber team…

I’ll throw in the Clippers as a possible wildcard they don’t have huge frontcourt depth and he’d go to a contender. As a Phoenix fan I’d like us to take a punt at him but I think if he can get sound by the autumn some contender may take a punt on him with the Spurs as my other wildcard given that Tim Duncan won’t be around forever.

How odd would it be if Oden ended up in Miami. He and LBJ together. First father son duo on a team in the NBA?

Right now, Oden needs to go to a team that has a really good medical staff, and that would be at OKC and Philly. Both medical staffs are really good at keeping their team healthy and I think that he would do real well in both systems. If he went to OKC, there wouldn’t be a rush for him to get back on the court as they have Perkins, Mohamed and Aldrich there, so he can make sure that he’s back to 100% and play on a championship caliber team. In Philly, his role would be a lot bigger, but they have a team that all plays together and are winning games. Either way, I think either team would be a good move for G.O.

At this point, with the injuries he’s succumbed to, going to a team with an above average medical staff is just a small factor in a possible decision. A training/medical staff isn’t really there to cure major injuries, they’re mostly there for rehab, and keeping a player as fresh as possible on a daily basis (ie dings, bruises, etc). No training staff will be able to cure the ailments that have plagued Oden throughout his NBA and College career.

Beyond that, as far as I see it, having tracked Oden’s career since he landed in Rip City, it seems unlikely that he’ll be able to make a serious push back into the L. I’m more than sure that he’ll make a go of it, rehab, training, maybe even sign some sort of non-guaranteed contract. But there’s a reason why, out of a potential 4 and a half seasons, he’s played a total of 82 games. The knees are shot. At least Brandon Roy (despite rumors that he’d love to get back on the court) had the sense to hang them up. There’s no shame in Oden trying to make another push, it just seems extremely unlikely at this point.

Oden’s knee injuries aren’t even close to being as severe as Roy’s.

Roy’s situation was so bad that microfracture wasn’t even an option to help him. Due to not having a mensicus, he was bone on bone. He has bone degeneration. There is no cure for that. You can only take inflamatories and try to endure the pain from the grinding.

I wasn’t necessarily trying to compare the two injuries, just the general situations. Obviously BRoy’s injuries were much worse, in the long run, as he didn’t really have to ponder much his decision for retirement. Where as it’s been one thing after another for Oden and those knees. Not the same injuries, between the two players, no, but look at the past 4 years, and tell me who has played more?

Again, long term, Roy was in a no-win situation. He was taking it day by day. But the entire point I was trying to make, by mentioning Roy, was that a lot of people are on the fence about Oden coming back at all, me being one of them. I think he’ll make a significant push, but I thought the same thing about this season, as well last, and see where that got him.
I just think it’s a bit foolish to be speculating on his future endeavors and accolades, when he dude can’t even get on the court.
