HitsterParticipantWith it being the 50th Anniversary of Wilt’s 100 point game and a lot of media attention on the anniversary, it even got a mention in the sporting press here in the UK. I wondered if any of the current NBA players could be in a position to have a potentially high scoring game, apart from Kobe’s 81 pointer in 2006, the highest logical level that a player is likely to reach nowadays is perhaps 60 points or a little above. Even 70 point games are a rare beast with the only other recent incident apart from Kobe’s effort being when David Robinson hit 70 points in around 1994. Not even MJ managed a 70 point game in his career I believe and that is without him having other high volume scorers alongside him apart from maybe Scottie Pippen and MJ being a player who when he was on a role would be given the ball and let him win a game on his own, he was that good.
AI another great modern scorer had a best of 60 odd points in one game with a limited supporting cast, LeBron reached 60 plus on occasion for Cleveland but now at Miami with D-Wade and Bosh, huge individual games are unlikely as it is more a team effort. And with games perhaps being won if someone has a 50 plus point game then they are often withdrawn in the 4th quarter like Kobe was when he had gone to 62 points after 3 quarters against the Mavs a few years ago. So for someone to maybe have a huge scoring game they need to play major minutes in a tight game and be on a team with no other high volume scorers or be on such a hot streak their team mates will actively look to give them the ball and however tightly they are guarded they won’t miss like Kobe on his 81 point night. Deron Williams recently had a huge game against the Knicks which he won almost single handed so it would need to be someone in that scenario to take it to a level above Deron to produce a 60 plus point game. Kobe could still do it in the right situation, certainly LeBron maybe if D-Wade was missing and Kevin Durant is another volume scorer who could have a huge game but has Westbrook as another high scorer alongside him. Maybe someone like Melo under D’Antoni’s fast offence has the game to produce a 60 plus point game for NY as the offence will give him lots of shots and if he had his shooting boots on could have a huge night.Apart from those mentioned above I could not really see another NBA currently getting within the 60 points plus range, a few may do so on occasion later on in their career0 - Posted on: Fri, 03/02/2012 - 9:56am #643124

JoeWolf1It’s a rare feat, like maybe a few games per decade, but these are my top 3 guys to do so. I think Wade and Lebron could, but I doubt either will while playing on the same team.
1. I’d say Durant has the potential to go over 60.
2. Monta Ellis does as well, especially with a Rondo for Curry swap, which has been rumored. That is a fast system and with a pure shot creator next to Ellis, I honestly feel he has the potential to do so.
3. Maybe Blake Griffin, he went for 47 as a rookie. Assuming he plays 10 more years, that is a lot of games for a player really capable of scoring. Especially if he continues to work on his jumper.
