Who is the most underrated Shooting Guard in the Country?

Darius Johnson-Odom. Really the whole Marquette team never gets much love on the national level. Year after year they come out with these undersized teams and they always seem to make the hustle plays that ultimately win the game. DJO is no exception he averages 18 points per game and along with Crowder is a leader of one of the most gritty teams in the country. 

on the west coast, i would say cal’s jorge gutierrez. Hes got a good chance to win pac 12 player of the year and is my pick at the moment although he completely no showed today in the loss to colorado going 0-7. BUt he is a possible second round draft pick and is an nba caliber defender who has decent offensive skills.

DJO is awesome…as a college player. Jerel McNeal was better but couldn’t find a role. I just don’t see his game translating to the NBA. Crowder could stick around as a rotation guy becuase he does a bit of everything and can play defense.

D’Angelo Harrison.

He’s been one of the best freshman in the country this year, playing for St. John’s. His teammate Harkless gets most of the attention, but Harrison, a fellow 4-star recruit, has been the team’s leader and big-shot maker all year. In fact, most SJU fans will say he has been the team’s best player. He’s a true scorer/gunner who also contributes in many other areas. Aside from his fg%, he has put up impressive numbers in his first year, particularly in Big East play.

16.8/3.8/2.2/1.5spg and 37.1% from three overall…and all those numbers improve in conference play.

He’s a fearless, gutsy player and leader…yet seems to be overlooked by most.

 Jason Clark from G’Town. He does it all on both sides of the floor and is the reason they are a top 10 team right now. He is an undersized shooting guard, but his wingspan, quickness (running and jumping) and athleticism allow him to play much bigger than he actually is. He is almost unstoppable when he drives at the college level. 

 I’m a Temple alumn so I gotta use this chance to give Khalif Wyatt some love.  He’s averaging 17, 3, and 3 and shooting 48% from FG and 40% from 3.  He’s also playing great defense and getting 2 steals per game.  He’s the main reason Temple is 22-6 and finally made it back into the top 25 this season, and nearly orchestrated a huge upset when Duke came to town and dropped 22 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals shooting 8-12 thoroughly outplaying Rivers who he was matched up with most the night.

Jared Cunningham from Oregon State also get’s no love but he’s really impressive.

I think both of these guys will become big time players next year as seniors.

Im a big Jason Clark guy and I love the duo and Marquette but I think two of the most underrated shooting guards are Tim Hardaway and Dexter Strickland.

Before Strickland’s injury he was the glue and best defender on North Carolina. He was also terrific and transition and helped the half court offense through penetration. His absense will be noticeable in the tourney.

Hardaway is a go to scorer on Michigan and I think he could be a good scorer in the NBA. He has a complete offensive game for a guard. Hardaway’s percentages have dipped this year since this is his first year as a go to scorer, but look out for him to be a mid first round pick in 2013.

I don’t think Barton gets enough love for how well he’s playing, relative to his accomplishments I’d say he’s highly underrated.

It seems like everyone have 4gotten about Khris Middleton of Texas A & M..He has been slowed down by injuries this season,but last year some sites had him in the lottery..

I know it is not west coast, but Doron Lamb.  If any of UK’s current top options (Davis, Jones, Kidd- Gilchrist) were to get hurt, he would easily average over 20 ppg and still shoot at a seriously high percentage.  

Darius Johnson-Odom is big and and pull up on just about anyone. If you can stop on a dime and drain the mid-range shot, you can make an NBA squad.

 Brandon Triche has been underrated the past 3 years

 he’s a good Sg if I may say so…

And I feel like I’m the only one who thinks Christian Watford of Indiana will be a solid Pro…he looks like a solid rotation guy that plays great defense and can hit a big shot or two(ask Kentucky)…He’s in the second round of my Mock draft…I also want to take a second to say I think Cody Zeller is fro real…

and John Jenkins of Vanderbilt and Josiah Turner can be very good down the road…Tim Hardaway Jr. also doesn’t get much love, he’s a 2nd rounder too…Will Barton gets no love playing at Memphis, 2 years ago he’d have been a 1st round lock, I guess Calipari did wonders for Memphis’s profile…He got Orton and Dorsey drafted, I think he’d have Will Barton in the Lotto…

Kris Joseph and Kris Middleton are under rated too…but I think they are more athletes than SG’s, I think Doron Lamb could be better than Jeremy Lamb…

 Iggy, you beat me to it,  McGruder is legit. He’s not on anyones’ draft radar right now, he’s very strong and athletic, and although he plays like a 3 at times, I think he definately needs to be in the conversation for most underrated SG in the NCAA.

 I better mention Keiton Page too, he’s blowing up right now vs Kansas.  He’s got 29 ( 7 3’s), he had 40 the other night and is dropping 16 on the year.  He probably about 5’7” and I’d be willing to bet the majority of casual NCAA fans outside of the midwest have no idea who he is.

I think Triche has a better chance of playing the point than Waiters does at the next level. Waiters is the better talent by far, but his decision making and play style isn’t that of a point guard, whereas Triche plays much more controlled.
