rickybobbyParticipantI know this would be a tough get for the Rockets but i believe Daryl Morey beside maybe Mark Cuban is the only GM who could pull this off. I think there’s a couple of ways they both can make their way to Houston. But to make it happen you have to get Dwight before the trade deadline, Since New Jersey isnt going to make a decision about Williams until the Dwight Sweepstakes are over. The Magic made it clear they wanted veteran talent instead of young guys and picks. So the rockets will have to include a 3rd maybe 4th team into the equation. Teams like Portland,Utah, New Orleans, the Bucks, and Warriors. Here a 3team trade with Magic and Hornets that i think could work http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7fgrur2
Another Option could be add Portland to the current trade and send Wallace to Orlando with Kaman and either Scola or Martin and send a pick or two and or one of their young sf/pf to portland meaning portland which is kinda like them getting the 2 or 3 1st rounders for wallace in the Nets and Magic trade that was discussed earlier this year. If Dwight agrees to sign an extension i would pull the plug with this immediately. And so then Houston becomes a major player in Dwill services. So maybe a sign and trade of Lowry, both 1st rounders, and a choice of 1 or 2 guys like Morris,Budinger,Patterson,Parson, the rights to Motiejunas. Either way Houston has enough pieces to move to get these two players in a variety of ways and would still have quality depth and players.
If Dwight and Deron end up playing together i think its going to be in Houston in my opinion or Dallas. Even though Houston isn’t in either of their peferred destination right now they are my darkhorse team to land them because they will have the easiest chance of trading pieces away to sign them or finding teams to help trade for them.

Anton123ParticipantI think Houson can succeed without a superstar, I really want to see them build a great young team of great role players, like Indiana is doing right now and like Detroit did a while back

BlazermannParticipantDetroit didn’t win with just role players they won with 4 all stars that locked up their man and put team work above stats.
Say what you want about resheed Wallace all u want but he put his team play above stats all the time, don’t forgetabout Mr big shot making all those clutch plays and rip running a muck around screens being a mid range killer and big Ben shutting DOWN the paint along with prince locking up the best wing players, in my opinion prince should of been a all-star at least twice THAT TEAM WAS UNDERRATED!!!0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/11/2012 - 5:22am #635074

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantWe were in the running for Chris Bosh last offseason and Carmelo Anthony last season.
Aside from the Nuggets, we have the best collection of young/veteran pieces to trade for a guy like this. We have vets like Martin and Scola that can put up 20 on any given night and young guys like Lowry, Dragic, Flynn, Parsons, T-Williams, Budinger, Hill, and Thabeet that can lure any team into trading us a good player and they can rebuild quickly.
I was hoping we could get Deron Williams, especially with how high Lowry’s trade-stock is at the moment. We’re always the darkhorse when it comes to blockbuster trades like this during the last two season and as always, we might just miss out again.
If we can get Howard and Williams, we would be giving up a lot of players but with so much depth at different positions, we could quickly improve all round. We would also have enough cap room to sign a guy like Wilson Chandler. If we can keep Motiejunas and acquire Dwight, they could compliment eachother perfectly in a couple of years as an inside out combo.
Our 2011-2012 line-up could be:
- Howard – Dalembert
- Patterson – Motiejunas
- Parsons – TWilliams
- Chandler – Lee
- Williams – Dragic
A guy can dream, right?
Parsons, Patterson, Lee, Motiejunas, TWill, and Dragic will only improve as their careers go on

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantYeah, I think it’s unfair to compare a team like the Pacers, Nuggets, or Rockets to the ’04 Pistons. That team was one of the best, if not the best, defensive team I had ever seen. Picking up RWallace mid-season provided a huge lift for them offensively and defensively. Both Wallace’s complimented eachother so well both on offense and defense. They had length, strength, and some grittyness about then. They were just a mean combination on defense.
When you have 5 shut-down defenders on the floor at the same time, you’re going to win. This is a team that made it 6 consecutive times to the ECF. Winning twice.

rickybobbyParticipantYea they can succeed without a superstar but if they want to win a championship they going to need atleast one. And if u look back to the years when the pistons won it all and then dominated the east for a couple of years the east was relative weak. No team had over one superstar or more than 2 allstars on there team. Where the Pistons had basically 5 allstars if u count how good tyshaun prince played and a good bench and a hall of fame coach. But another scenario i wouldnt mind seeing is the Rockets pairing Kyle Lowry with 2guys like a Monta Ellis & Al Jefferson, or Rudy Gay and Al Jefferson, Or Rudy Gay and Monta Ellis. They could compete in the West and if all three could elevate their game to where they are not superstar or stars but are close too guys like (Stoudemire, Pau Gasol, Tony Parker and Ginobli in their prime) they could steal a championship or two.

Anton123ParticipantI’m not trying to draw a parallel between the two, I was merely talking about success without a superstar

F_DA_POParticipantPeople don’t seem to get it. Howard isn’t going anywhere other than LA, Dallas or New Jersey. I would probably put the Bulls as the dark horse.

db24kb24Participant"i believe Daryl Morey beside maybe Mark Cuban is the only GM who could pull this off"
woowoo i’d like to introduce you to Mitch Kupchak, Lakers GM.

Knicksboy42ParticipantNo way Houston could get either guy. It says something when you decline options on alot of your players, they are average.

sheltwon3ParticipantHouston seems to be drafted well and need to turn some of their young talent into veteran players on the verge of all star status. I would keep Patterson and Dragic but everyone else can be moved.

rileymcshea3ParticipantHonestly the Rockets youngsters are overrated in my opinion …There nothing compared to Denver

PulseGlazerParticipantJust for the record, while Rip Hamilton was a very good defender, he was never "shut down."
