Restricted free-agent forward Wilson Chandler plans to re-sign with the Denver Nuggets once he finishes playing in China, his agent told Yahoo! Sports.

Chandler signed with Zhejiang Guangsha of the Chinese Basketball Association during the NBA lockout and is committed to stay with the team until China’s season is over. Chandler is drawing “significant interest” from other NBA teams, Chandler’s agent, Chris Luchey said, but he wants to re-sign with the Nuggets for either the rest or the season or a longer-term deal.

Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri acknowledged the team’s interest in re-signing Chandler. The Nuggets have the right to match any offer Chandler receives from another NBA team.

“Wilson likes their direction and the stabilization of their roster in Denver with the young talent,” Luchey said in a phone interview from China. “He wants to see how they develop as a team. It’s a unique situation. The ball is in their court. If Wilson is comfortable, he will be a part of their core group.”

Ujiri plans on visiting Chandler in China during Zhejiang Guangsha’s regular-season finale on Feb. 15 or in the postseason. Zhejiang Guangsha is expected to make the playoffs. Chandler is free to sign with the Nuggets once the team’s season ends.

Chandler averaged 12.5 points and five rebounds in 21 games with the Nuggets last season after being dealt from the New York Knicks in the Carmelo Anthony trade. Luchey said Chandler, who made $2.1 million last season, has been communicating with his old Nuggets teammates regularly from China.

The Nuggets recently lost their leading scorer, forward Danilo Gallinari, for about a month after he severely sprained his left ankle.

“Our goal is to re-sign Wilson Chandler,” Ujiri said. “We like everything about him. Wilson was one of the key players we got in the trade with New York and he’s a phenomenal player, shooter and defender.”

Good role player if nothing else. Will he be back in the U.S. before Gallinari gets back though, if his team is set to make the Chinese playoffs that is. I don’t know anything about their playoff format/scheduling

the playoffs start on feb. 22. the cba format is best of 5 for first 2 rounds and best of 7 in the final. so i doubt he will be signed before gallo comes back but either way they can sign him once he comes over since nuggets can match any offer, and they can add even more depth to their lineup.

Didn’t they just sign Gallo and Affalo to long term deals? I know Wilson says he wants to be a nugget but idk if they really have him in their future. He is a good talent, i’d like to see what he can do as a starter… if not w/ LAL then sumwhere else

According to the article chandler is willing to sign a contract for the rest of the season but will eventually want a longterm deal…plus denver can match any offers since hes a restricted FA. I say sign him for the rest of the season, see how well or bad he plays and then make the decision if he is worth resigning…that way you are still flexable in the future if he turns out to do nothing, you can just let him walk or maybe do a sign and trade type of agreement

Let’s not overrate W Chandler. He is definitely a baller, and definitely can help a good team win games. But let’s not act like since they locked up Gallo he should be going for bigger and better things now.

They need him this year, who knows how long Gallo will be out, and if they can go into the playoffs with Gallo and Chandler, boy that is one dangerous team.

he’s a smart teammate never creating problems. Another nice addition to that nuggets team.

he will fit nicely with that team. Denver will be a tough team in the playoffs as philladelphia and indiana.

Wilson chandler is a good player who can fill the wing position, i dont think he will be a first, second option. but he will certainly help a team with wing issues such as the raptors, or the nets. I am not overating him hes coming back and its only noteworthy because he actually wants to go back to denver which is suprising in my opinion since Gallo is their guy cleary.

@churchboy this is just talk, its not official so the raptors might still have a chance you never know.

Wilson Chandler is the ideal 6th man or starting SF for any team.  If sure the Clippers would love to get a hold of him, moving Caron to SG, they’ll have a pretty big lineup.

If I were the Nuggets, you sign Wilson Chandler and make him your 6th man.  When starting, he’s a solid 15-5 guy and coming off the bench, he can easily provide 12-3.  A team as deep as the Nuggets without a true star, they need as much depth as possible.  That’s why they’re succuessfull, because of all their depth.  Not to mention, they can try to put together a package deal with Chandler, Hamilton, Fernandez, Brewer, Faried, Mozgov, Nene and Miller to try and lure a superstar.

Chandlers the real deal, hes only 24, proven scorer already (16.4), and one of the best shot blockers on the wing in the league (1.4). There isnt a team in the league that wouldn’t want him if they could afford him. As for Perkins, he’s a clown whose filled with hate…just look at his face.

I would love to have a shot at signing Chandler. That combined with a good shooter in the draft this year and they would be a playoff team in the east already.
