I don’t really think there is a better option in FA that they could afford. Battier makes this team soo much better. People underrate his offense. He is a knockdown shooter and if you put a small guy on him he will post up. Battier can guard the likes of Dirk Nowitzki or Kobe or Durant and frees up Lebron more for offense.

In conclusion, if Battier is truly going to the Heat they are a significantly better team. They should amnesty Miller tho.

Well they didn’t have any chance to land a big dominant center… so they chose to take the best player available.

Not a bad idea, battier is a winner and a great teammate. Anthony as chalmers will have to raise their level.

I think Battier is a great pickup. He’s that kind of player that’ll put you over the top. LeBron, Wade and Battier on the floor together should be very effective.

He could be Miami’s "James Posey" type of player.

Shane Battier is a fantastic player.  If you’re trying to win a championship, these are the kinds of players you need.  Hustle guys that will play hard defense, keep their heads up, and go 110 MPH at all times.

They basically signed him so they can give LeBron a break at times.  Lebron logged nearly 40mpg last season and was constantly guarding the best player on the other team.  Now that is going to be Shane Battier’s job, that way, a fresh LeBron in the playoffs will be deadlier.

It’s sad to me that just a year ago everybody hop on this heat bandwagon and said the big 3 of the heat don’t need anybody else they can get guys off the street and win bcuz all the talent them 3 have. They lose and now they need Shane or this other name player just makes me sick. Shane is a good player but he is not the player to solve there issues he can’t play point guard nor center and last time I checked Shane hasn’t won a championship or been to the finals so he is not bringing no finals experience to there lOckerroom. Just still sad everybody wants the heat to add more Name players like they don’t have 3HOF already

James Posey wasn’t a championship winner before the Celtics either.  Neither was Tyson Chandler, yet both of those pieces proved to be huge pieces and those teams probably wouldn’t win without them.  Sometimes all you need are hustle players that will make the difference between a 94-95 loss and a 97-94 win.

Jamaal Tinsley, Eddy Curry and Troy Murphy set to join Heat also.

Posey played on the Heat’s 05-06 championship team and 2 years later was on the Celtics’ championship team.

Based out like a 23 I feel what you saying but that team was filled with a bunch of guys like that until there superstar Dwade step up. So that being said if heat had Shane in them finals what difference would he have made when the biggest name on their team Le-Bummed out

The difference it would have made last season is LeBron James would have not been forced to guard guys like Kobe, Durant, Carmelo, and Pierce in the regular season.  LeBron wouldn’t play nearly 40 minutes per game in the regular season. 

THEN

In the playoffs, LeBron wouldn’t have to play 44 minutes a game while guarding guys like Iguodala, Pierce, and Terry/Nowitzki because Shane Battier would, at the very least, play 15-20 minutes per game and split the time guarding those players with James.

That would have left James with fresh legs and a lot less fatigue.  A healthy and energized LeBron would have given the Miami Heat a much bigger chance to win the championship.

To put it in a simpler manner, Shane Battier would give LeBron a rest when it comes to minutes and guarding the best player on the opposing team, leaving him less fatigued and more focused on offense.

They most likely dropped that offer because they already got Battier.  They were just looking for someone to play excellent defense and give LeBron some rest.  I wouldn’t be suprised if Kirilenko and Tayshaun Prince were also contacted by Miami.

 LBJ didn’t flame out because he was tired, he flamed out because he couldn’t figure out how to be effective for 24 mpg w/o the ball in his hands. Then he would finally get the ball back from Wade, and couldn’t figure out how to beat the zone.

This was a dumb move IMO. They better hope Dalembert or Kwame want a title bad enough to accept a smaller deal, because they REALLY need some size in a bad way. 

 I read that they really are going to sign Eddy Curry. He’ll sign a deal tommorow (friday) for a year.

 And for all of the crap we’re hearing about M.M. getting amnesty cut, don’t expect it. He happens to be a very close friend of LBJ’s off-court and even named his child after LBJ’s agent if I’m not mistaken. I don’t see it happening.

That’s more than likely the lineup I’m predicting opening night with the addition of MAYBE Kwame which would be terrific with his size,quickness,and strength. He’s actually one of the better defensive bigs in the L even without shot-blocking ability. LBJ will ultimately want to kill him though after the first 5 times he makes a beautiful pin point pass to Kwame down low, and he either, a.) fumbles it, b.)airballs the layup of throws it horridly off the backboard, or c.) simply misses the pass entirley and gets hit in the face with the ball. This is the same kwame who was afraid to even attempt a layup from a Kobe pass in fear of being fouled and having to go to the stripe.

 Oh yeah, I had forgotten about them signing Eddy, he’ll be a good backup if he’s in decent shape and aggressive offensively.

 even though I hate adding a Dookie, huge move. Lebron got burned out in the playoffs. He needed to play better, but I don’t think its really fair to ask a player to guard Iguadala, Paul Pierce, Derrick Rose, then Shawn Marion playing out of his mind in 4 consecutive series while play 40 MPG and dominating the ball. Only Lebron could even come close to that, but in reality, you can’t ask that of a player. Battier can guard pretty much any 3 in the league and alot of elite 4’s, making Lebron’s life a lot easier.

One thing that killed the Heat was they were never able to get their best lineup any chemistry. They never had Haslem and Miller healthy together, and I always really wanted to see what Wade, Miller, James, Haslem, and Bosh could do together on the court if they had time to develop chemistry.

I think you have to Amnest Miller at this point. it sucks, but you will get some of that money back in Luxury tax savings and if somebody else signs him, and you just gotta swallow your losses on that one. We need to get a competent big Body, Kwame Brown would be amazing, (never thought I would say that).

Troy Murphy gives us a pick and pop guy, which we might not need in every game but in some matchups, like against shotblockers, it will be useful. Eddy Curry, who knows, but Riley isn’t stupid, and i think even the biggest idiot ever could see that if he could work his but off for 1 year he can play himself into a contract somewhere and make himself a lot of money. Worst case, you cut him and get another vet min guy, so no risk move there. I heard they are lookin at Tinsley, idk how I feel about that. I’d really like them to take some chances on some young guys, maybe look into the D League or a Patty Mills type guy. Pg’s are out there, Bigs aren’t, but theres literally 20 or so guys who I think can play solid spot minutes at the 1 in a role like this. I’d like to bring back Chalmers but I think somebody might overpay him, although I haven’t heard about anybody offering.

IDK about Troy Murphy. He fits offensively, but defensively… He can’t defend a chair.

Hey, what could you do, they were tight for $. At least they came away with something and lost nothing. 2 games away from winning it last year, and this surely doesn’t make them any worse

If they retain Chalmers, they get a big applause from me, he is a gamer..

 miami should be lookin for a cosistent pg who can spot up for lebron and D-wade when they slash, and get a big guy to anchor their defense… Maybe Samuel Dalembert? he’s there best and only true possibility at center right now.

Defensively adding Battier is a great addition..He knows how to use his body to guard and keep some big men from being affective..They could’ve used him to help slow down Dirk in the finals…But offensively he just doesnt have anymore,and that deadly 3 point shooting he once displayed isnt as accurate as it use to be….Besides that game winning 3 point shot against the Spurs in the playoffs,Memphis coaching staff was disappointed in his 3 point shooting,he shot just 8-29 during the playoffs with Memphis last season….That was 1 of the things they wanted him for…
