I wanted the Celtics to pick him so badly in the first round…

I felt like the veterans on the team could help him mature and keep his head straight. Should be fun to watch with the backcourt of Curry and Ellis.

He looks slimmer in this video, Doesn’t look like he weighs 260lbs, looks like he is in good shape. Could end up like DeAndre Jordan who also fell in the 2nd round and is becoming a steal.

Before he went to israel, he was considered one of the best if not the best player in his class. However, in comparison to jenning, he was a failed experiment for young guys going abroad instead of going to college. GS def got a steal. As you can see, the athleticism and potential are there. With the right coaching, attitude and work ethic, this guy will easily become top 10 or even top 5 centers in the game today. 

 Kid looks like every bit of a franchising changing type talent in that highlight package, wouldn’t be surprised if he turned out 2 be the steal of the draft.

EDIT: Just watched the video, and now even more frustrated, he is looking very fit. How is he wearing a GSW shirt though? Is that allowed for rookies haha.

Other than that, I am so excited to see if this guy develops. Which I hope he does.

He’s athletic for his size and has nice physical tools, but we’ve always known that. The problem is, he doesn’t really know how to play basketball. His feel for the game is terrible. Poor intangibles. He didn’t even dominate in a weak Japaneese league.

He has a long way to go to even being a rotation player in the NBA.

@Indiana I understand it’s a risk but look at where the Celtics are right now…They’re a team relying heavily on players that are going to be retiring within the next couple years with only two young studs in Rondo and Green. The Celtics need to take risks on some players that have a lot of potential to be main rotation players in a couple years. I can definitely see Tyler being a good asset with Rondo feeding him the ball in a couple years when the big three retire and he matures under the tutelage of the likes of KG.

Of course it could totally blow up in their faces…but the Celtics are running out’ve options.

akhan said it well, but I also think playing under Rivers would be a perfect situation for Tyler. At worst I think he’d be a more athletic Kendrick Perkins after a year or two in Boston, maybe sooner.

I just get the feeling he’ll be another Deandre Jordan where he was overhyped and then overlooked, but could still contribute at the next level.

That’s not an unfair comparison as far as talent vs. draft position is concerned, but DeAndre Jordan didn’t have half of the attitude/conditioning questions that Tyler has.

But neither Jeremy Tyler or DeAndre Jordan (or even Hassan Whiteside for that matter) was overlooked. If anything, the teams that overlooked them were actually the teams that drafted them. It’s not like the Warriors, Clippers and Kings have been known for their prowess in building competitive teams lately.

Team chemistry is a sensitive thing. Good franchises like the Celtics cannot afford a distraction like Tyler on the team. I know that a lot of people think that good coaches and hall-of-fame players can reform a player with a bad attitude/work-ethic, but it really isn’t that simple. Great coaches know that real motivation has to come from the players. If somebody isn’t willing to work hard or be a good teammate, NO legendary player or coach is going to waste time on him. That’s not how championship teams work. A great franchise has a great culture, and won’t accept players that will upset or distract that culture.

Golden State doesn’t have a good frontcourt or any strong leadership. Without someone to clash with, Tyler will have the leeway that could get him to the level of Andray Blatche or so. He looks good in that video, but Patrick O’Bryant looked good in highlight reels as well.

And comparing the inflated-ego that is Jeremy Tyler to a tough, championship-caliber role-player like Kendrick Perkins is borderline outrageous.
