    From http://eye-on-basketball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22748484/32937020

"It started innocently enough. Ty Lawson is whiling away the hours, conferin’ with the flowers in Lithuania during the NBA lockout with a team called BC Zalgiris. But Lawson started tweeting on Tuesday that things aren’t going swimmingly with the club.

I coulda sat home and played NBA 2k12 and got the same thing accomplished that we did in practice smh

OK, well, that’s not a very nice thing to say about your coach/team, but no big deal. Except Lithuanian fans on Twitter didn’t take too kindly to it. And things got personal. Quickly. Especially after Lawson said:

A lot of wack things happening

And then after a response from a particularly abusive fan of the team, saying he is "complaining:"

@pranas_balsys I would slap the shyt outta u if I seen u in person… I play hard every game

Well, now. That’s not very nice on either side’s part. Lawson then said he had "said what he had to say" and that he was done… but then the tweets kept a comin’ from both sides.

funny thing…. i see all these lithuanian ppl starting to follow me..here comes the hate tweets…. in 3…2..1 lol..

And then it got worse. The replies to Lawson took on a decidedly racist turn. Which is always fun. And predictable. And sad.

this ridiculous… didnt kno racism still existed… might have to pack my bags

    Ha, just kidding, he says!

lol..i aint gonna pack my bags.. life in a another country is crazy as u can tell… im a tough dude..aint gonna run away from a situation

And finally, possibly my favorite tweet in all the world:

they call me chico baby…. if u gonna be racist dont forget about my mexican side

Now that, friends, is how you troll the fanbase of your own team. Lawson’s facing abusive fans, but he would be facing abusive fans anywhere, including Denver, if he or the team struggled. One of the problems is that the players who are overseas aren’t really committed to it. They know they’re only there till the lockout ends. This isn’t a career move, it’s a part-time gig. That affects your outlook and the level of hassle you’re willing to deal with. Like everything else with the lockout, it’s complicated."

What did he expect when he signed in europe, fancy lockerooms, top of the line team jets, a person to take care of his every need. nah dude its hard work, and unlike the nba their is none of those things above, you ride long trips on the team bus, your lockerroom is probably like the one i your high school maybe even smaller, and there is not a person holding his hand throughout the whole process. I respect Ty Lawson and he is a good player but maybe he’s starting to realize how good nba players have it and they should appreciate what they have. Players and Owners End the lockout, so we can don’t have to hear about how HARD life is as a professonal owner or player.

Its talk like this that makes the owners feel all the more confident that they will win out.  Thanks Twitter and Ty Lawson.  U don’t want to do anything to show your hand, and if the owners can tell there is no way Euroball is going to be a realistic option for a greater number of NBA players to consider, then they are not gonna back down at all.

I don’t know how a professionnal player can have so much time to lose on twit’ or facebook or anything else… he should be at the gym improving or working with his teamates if he feels they are so bad.

He also complained about coaching quality and overal european level of play. Until tonight he wasn’t very good (but put some good stats at time) and his team is struggling whereas he is their leading point guard.

on this day’s euroligue game lawson put in 24 minutes 7 pts (only 3/8) 9 reb 1 st 3 to AND 0 ASSISTS. pretty ugly after such a theatral demo.

I don’t understand how you can complain if you decide not to commit a minimum. At least you could take this adventure the right way : discovering new culture…. Instead of you decide to piss on a team and feel surprised of the extrem (dumb and racist) reactions.

I don"t understand what he is winning doing that. Lots of fans here in europe are fed up with the lockout and with that kind of behaviour will turn their opinion against nba players (even if there is no direct link and lawson is not "every nba player").

Lots of american player came and enjoyed their experience here by trying to open their mind and learn a new way of taking life and basketball. Can’t lawson be enough clever to do that ? I’m strongly disappointed on that man.

If he’s complaining that done mean people should come at him with some racist shit, that’s don’t make any sense… What if he’s used to playing on a much higher level and he is frustrated cause he’s playing with some weak players.. He seems like he doesn’t like Lithuaniana or the European style of basketball, what’s wrong with that?

he has the right to : not enjoy lithuania or european bball…. but not complaining that imature way through social networks. It’s not professionnal. It’s just creating some excuse for anger to express through extrem dumb reactions from idiots.

nobody force him to try such experience (leaving in a totally foreign and different country… can be difficult) and maybe he’s not enough strong (as a man and as a player) to handle such an experience and all the issues linked to . But he can’t blame somebody else that him.

if he’s frustrated to play with weak players why would not help them being better ? Isn’t he their pg ? Until now he didn’t prove he was so good he can afford that kind of communication.

I think he has not the shoulders he thought he had.

Players complain about there situations through the media all of the time, so I don’t get why he can’t express himself.. It is unprofessional but that’s not a reason to say racist shit, I don’t get why that’s ok…

I don’t think his manhood should be questioned if he doesn’t like his situation.. People get home sick all time it, some people have had cultural issues moving to different parts if the US… I’ve meant people from the east coast that moved out to the west coast because of job re locations and had to move back because they didnt like the pace of the west coast..

It’s naive to think Lawson can magically make his players better… If the suck they suck lol… He may not get along with his teammates/coach, so it should all be his fault??

If a european players comes to the US and complains similar to how Lawson complains through his countries media would it make him “not strong enough?”

never thought racist answers were ok… I just try to notice that as a public face he has to watch out his communication and ovoid the more he can to generate dialogues like those he had on twit’ (cause he has a strong responsability on that story twitin’ some old fashioned stereotypes about european life and bball whereas he has not been the white knight)).

If an european player do the same, I would blame him ,as I blame lawson, for complaining without having done the maximum he can to adapt and perform. That’s what is not ok with lawson’s behaviour. He you’re not happy, think you can’t adpat and perform : that’s not a big issue, you can easily be substituted (you’re not tyus edney 🙂 ). And you can leave if you want without making so much noise. If you don’t want to leave (as lawson), so stay, work, fight for your club your coach your team, your mates.

I think bball players nowadays are always talking but when it’s time to act….
