M-DYMESParticipantJust looked at the 2013 mock draft and clicked on my fellow Pitt Panther Steven Adam’s profile. As it stands now, he is compared to Bougt/BJ Mullens? Im just completely puzzled by both of these comparisons.
I understand its early in the game here so not a whole ton of thought probably goes into these comparisons, but IDK if you could pick 2 worse players to compare him too. The only thing that is relative is their heights and skin.
Steven is an athletic freak and if you were to make a comparison to a recent player, I’d have to say a PF/C version of Jan Vesely (as opposed to Jan’s PF/SF), or Serge Ibaka would be one of the closest. No way do Bogut or Mullens have or rely on the athleticism that Adam’s does. Adams also isn’t nearly as NBA ready as Bogut, which is probably one of the key factors of why Bogut went #1 overall other than being a 7 footer.

M-DYMESParticipant*Bogut…sorry that is eating away at me and I can’t stand that I can’t fix the title of the post.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantBut getting compared to those guys this early in his career isnt a bad thing..Bogut is 1 of the top 5 centers in the league..And is a good low post scorer, terrific rebounder and both a defensive and offensive player…
Mullens when he was coming out of high school,if you can remember was once considered a top overall pick..I still think he can be a decent serviceable center in the league….I heard Boston wanted OKC to include him in the Perkins trade..But OKC wanted to keep him…

M-DYMESParticipantOh Im not saying I wouldn’t be happy to be compared to these guys this early if I was Steven Adams. Being compared to Bogut is a great compliment. That being said……………………….
It makes no damn sense.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantAdams is long and athletic like former Pacer Rik Smits….But Bogut is a little better defender looks much stronger than Smits was…

M-DYMESParticipantI like that comparison, I think Adams is a bit sounder defensively and Smits shot was a bit better. Adams is still so raw at this point, he could develop a J like Smits. So much potential, Adams future could be very bright.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantI think he’s the 2nd best center prospect in the country behind Drummond…A Top 10 pick next year,if he decides to turn pro….
And Adams plays with a mean streak..And thats what you want from your big man….

M-DYMESParticipantHe’s a humble kid as well, I guess he comes from a very bad situation in New Zealand. He was gang affiliated as a youth, but seems to have really matured and left that path for good. People love a redemption story so he’s got that going for him come predraft interviews as well.
Only concern of mine is he kind of looks like Adam Morrison when Adam had short hair and the stache.

Kinguy11ParticipantI’d have to agree with the Ibaka comparison, just with a jump shot.
