Scottoant93ParticipantIf you were an nba rookie would you rather be mentored by postion(using only current nba players)
Rules
Pick one from each postion(current and legends) for currents its like entering next season as a rookie and backing them up or succeed them as a starter depending on the player. For legends its them mentoring you to become a better player and develop
PG- Jason Kidd or Steve Nash… hard choice but i choose kidd since im a nets fan and kidd has been in 3 finals(2 with nets, and 1 w/mavs).. thats gives him a slight edge
SG- Kobe or Dwayne Wade.. Kobe is great, but kobe seems like the type of person who put you down if your not playing well, as Dwade seems like the type that would try to fire you up.
SF Lebron or Kevin Durant… I know in my idoitic post(players you can’t stand from each team) I said I dislike him, but hey he’s got extreme talent, even if he won’t teach you at least you find out his workout haha
PF KG or Tim Duncan….KG would force you to change your ways, and make you tougher, and more agressive..plus he’s another one of my favorite players..just don;t pick up his attitude
C Dwight Howard or Andrew Bogut…. I know, D12 is a monster but he lacks offensive skills, Bogut is more well rounded..only problem is he is injury prone but better suited for a mentor
and by NBA Legends
PG- Magic Johnson or John Stockton …..Magic Best pg in nba history, who better to learn from
SG MJ or Jerry West…. G.O.A.T now hopefully his mentoring is not as bad as his gm or owner skills
SF Larry Bird or Elgin Baylor….
PF Karl Malone or Charles Barkley..
C Shaq or Kareem… Shaq always says no one would be as good as him, and kareem has mentored bynum how not a bad player so I would go with kareem
Feel free to post your own this or that mentor

Wavy BagelsParticipantCurrent
PG – Andre Miller. Shows plenty of assertiveness and wit, two great qualities a PG should obtain
SG – Ray Allen or Rip Hamilton. Can teach how to move without the ball
SF – Grant Hill. Has been in the league for so long and seen so much. Plus, that cardio, Mayne! Does wonders!
PF – Tim Duncan. He’s my all-time favorite player. Why wouldn’t I?
C – Ben Wallace. His reign as the league’s best defensive stopper is proof why I would want him to mentor me.
Legends
PG – John Stockton
SG – MJ or Sidney Moncrief
SF – George Gervin
PF – Kevin Mchale/Phil Jackson
C- Mark Eaton

IndianaBasketballParticipantAre we picking our own players or going off of the players you listed?

Scottoant93ParticipantIt was orginally meant to answer my questions and add your own, but whichever you perfer is fine.

mikeyvthedonParticipantPG Chris Paul: The guy does not look like a basketball player in real life, but he is absolutely out of control. I am sure you could learn a ton from this guy.
SG Kobe Bryant: Just shut up, watch and listen. Sure you would learn a lot doing just that.
SF LeBron James: Honestly, I think he would be a cool team mate. You might not kick it with him, but it seemed like most of the rookies tended to really get along with him well. He really is a student of the game and I feel like you could learn a lot from playing on his team.
PF Kevin Love: A lot of his game is just pure fundamentals and a lot of time with his dad. He is not a top notch athlete, but he has an incredibly high basketball IQ and he is a great passer, would be a great guy to learn from.
C Tim Duncan: Feel he is a Center at this point in his career, probably always was, but he played as PF for so long that myself and others feel he is the best ever to play the position. The guy knows how to score in the post and defend down low, plain and simple. Wish more people would use the glass like Timmy (I know Dwyane Wade is great at it, but can not think of a lot of post players who do the same)
All-Time:
PG Terrell Brandon: Yeah, there were probably better. But, he went to University of Oregon, and he was an incredibly efficient PG during his time in the league. Think he could definitely be a great mentor and coach.
SG Pete Maravich: You might not learn a damn thing about defense, but if I could learn skills from the man himself, I am sure it would help my offensive game tremendously.
SF Larry Bird: A basketball genius. Magic would be great at PG, but I feel like Larry was every bit the passer, played amazing team defense and pushed his team mates.
PF Kevin McHale: The post moves were just incredible.
C Shaquille O’Neal: I have no idea whether you could learn a lot from Shaq, but I do know that he would make my life a hell of a lot easier if I were on the court with him. Plus, he seemed like a really cool team mate. Hakeem would probably be the best person to learn from, but I think that when you are playing, you are not necessarily a mentor. Shaq would just be an awesome person to have played with, was always a dream of mine.
@Scotto: Sorry man, did not see your latest post until after I had written this. Nonetheless, I like this concept, but I will just give my own.

IndianaBasketballParticipantPG: Jason Kidd or Steve Nash – Nash is a great player, but his career didn’t really take off until he landed in a run and gun offensive system with the Suns. Kidd has been a great player his entire career, and at both ends of the floor. Even at his old age, he’s still able to defend younger players. I’d pick Kidd’s brain a part if I were a rookie and his backup.
SG: Kobe or Dwayne Wade – Easy choice for me. IF you ask any young player about Kobe, they’ll tell you he’s embraced them. Kobe joined the olympic team in changed the ENTIRE culture… Players like LeBron and Wade were watching his every move. Kobe has a complete game, is determined beyond belief and his work ethic is legendary. This is a no brainer.
SF: Lebron or Kevin Durant – Unless LeBron could teach me how to be 6′ 8" 260 and be a freak athlete, I don’t think there’s much for me to learn from him. I’d rather watch Durant and watch the way he moves without the ball. He’s such a unique offensive player and I think I could learn a lot from him as a ball player in general.
PF: KG or Tim Duncan – I’d go with Duncan because he’s won at every level of his life. He doesn’t brag or boast… All he’s done is dominate quietly for his entire career. You can learn a ton from a player like that.
C: Dwight Howard or Andrew Bogut – There’s a good chance I’d never be the athlete that Howard is, but I could still learn a lot from him. He knows where to be defensively and really does a lot of his work on the boards before the ball hits the rim. Being a great athlete gets him rebounds and blocks, but he gets great position before shots even go up.
and by NBA Legends
PG: Magic Johnson or John Stockton – Magic 6′ 9"… Stockton 6′ 1", yet he was tough as sh*t and durable. It’s a shame he didn’t win a ring. I could learn a lot from him. Work ethic, toughness and just playing basketball… No bs on the side. No ego. No front running. Just basketball. And of course his offensive IQ was off of the charts.
SG: MJ or Jerry West – Basketball? Give me MJ. Running a basketball team, give me West lol. Seriously though… MJ is the best to do it and when you have a chance to learn from the best, you don’t hesitate. Work ethic. Determination. MJ was that dude.
SF: Larry Bird or Elgin Baylor: Bird is considered to be the greatest small forward ever. He wasn’t athletic, so his game was based off of pure skill, hunger, determination and just brilliance. You have to learn from that and find out how he did what he did.
PF: Karl Malone or Charles Barkley: I wouldn’t to learn from either of these guys off of the court, but on the court… I’d choose Malone. Great work ethic… Always just did his job. One of the best on ball defenders at his position ever and always knew were to be at that end… And he was a great offensive player too. Just a lot to learn from.
C: Shaq or Kareem – I’m sure I could probably learn a lot more skill wise from Kareem, but I’d go with Shaq just because Kareem seems wierd lol. I wonder if I’d relate to him. Shaq… I feel like I’d be able to relate to him. He has a lot of wisdom and has seen a lot, plus done a lot in his career.

C: Ben Wallace, great work ethic
Legends:
PG: Nash, he is a legend because he is the best canadian born player of all time, and to learn how to pass and anticipate like him
SG: Jordan, obvious reasons
SF: Reggie Miller, that shot was beautiful
PF: Chris Webber, was a great passer as a veteran
C: Dikembe Mutomo, learn to play defense that good

M-DYMESParticipantPG: Jason Kidd– I think kid would be the ulitmate mentor. He is a very cerebral player, has size but did not use that to dominate like Magic so he would relate more to me. Improved shooter, could give some pointers. Excellent teacher of court vision, reading the D, and passing. One of the great leaders as well. Seems like a humble guy too.
SG: Kobe: I love MJ and no doubt consider him a better player than Kobe, but I think Kobe would be a better teacher. MJ seems like more of the type of guy who just leads and plays by example as opposed to be a willing teacher. Kobe seems much more vocal IMO as a mentor. Can’t go wrong with either though. Ray Allen is another guy I would consider.
SF: Grant Hill– I think this guy would be one of the best mentors you could ask for. Very smart, altered his game after injuries and age. Is respected and the type of guy you would have to listen to.
PF: KG- One of my fav players of all time. Would get you pumped, teach you plenty of post moves and the high shot release he has. Master of defense and would make sure you go hard 24/7. Cool dude too.
C: Hakeem- Has already proven that he must be a hell of a teacher the way he helped a guy like Kobe.
