John Wall vs Jeff Teague at the Knox Indy Pro Am vs Goodman League Game

The more I see of Teague the more I like his game. That strip at 17sec was nice

 Mannnnnnn Teague is so athletic seriously 19-22 thats mad bounce for someone 6’0 and we all know he is just as fast and quick as anyone, starting to put it together but I think once he figures it out all the way, skys the limit for dude.

 The NBA is filled with young talented guards, nearly every team has one. You’ve got crazy athlets, lockdown defenders, and guys that can score a lot! That positon is stacked! 

I think we all want Jeff Teague to be a starting PG in the L, but does he really have the skill set to do it? I mean, is he really able to run an NBA offense on the level of a starting PG on a contending team? Or even another young up-and-comer like Jrue Holliday? I personally think that Teague is more suited as a 6th man a la Lou Williams, but at the same time I haven’t seen enough of Teague to really formulate a confident opinion.

No he doesn’t have a PG skill set he’s a combo guard, and even tho he played very well against the Bulls it still showed he is in the Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook category for point guards….guys who can score and are elite athletes, but are not great at setting people up or getting others off, steve nash, rondo, kidd, they will weave and weave and weave through defenses to find a open guy, Rose, Westbrook, Teague, are guards who look to score and pass when nothing else is there.

But with that being said I think Teague can start in the L if he can stay consistent

Rose is definitely not like westbrook. He is a true point guard who was forced to shoot more last year with limited options. I know for a fact if Rose had more offensive talent he would go back to the pass first pg he has always been.

 Rose is not in the mold of Steve Nash, Rondo, Cp3 and never will be, he is not a pure point guard. 

^exactly. Rose is a pass first guy who can score effortlessly. Look at him at Memphis…you think he couldn’t have scored way more than 14 a game? But he had CDR as a legit scoring option by his side, so he played unselfishly and scored when he had to. If the Bulls get a 2 guard who can score, or consistently knock down open 3’s, he’ll drop 10 dimes a game for many years.

Rose is unselfish… I mean, he’ll give up the ball and make the right pass. He’s not like Westbrook… Not even close. The problem with Rose is that he just isn’t a great playmaker for his teammates like a Nash, Paul, Rondo, etc. He’s not the kind of player to just set up teammates and pick a defense apart with his passing. I think at max potential, Rose averages 8 assists.

Rose will always be an unselfish player, but his strength is clearly putting the ball in the basket and getting to the basket.

 Memphis and his first year with the Bulls is the only years he didn’t lead his team in scoring, even dating back to HS where he had Tim Flowers(D1 player) Lazeric Jones(D1 player) and Kevin Johnson(D1) and at Memphis CDR was a Junior who had been there and knew the system but Rose was second on the team in scoring, and besides Antonio Anderson,Joey Dorsey,Robert Dozier and Doneal Mack arent big scorers they weren’t even in double figures the year before Rose got there.

Im done with the debate tho, I love Rose but he isn’t a pure PG period he has an extreme amount of talent that enables him to drive and dish at a level out of this world but thats it. No knock on him or anything like that he’s a top 3 PG in the NBA but as far as "PURE" PG goes Rose is not one.

 Indiana said it best, Rose is an uselfish scorer. He just isn’t the kind of guy who can dictate a game with his passing, but he is absolutely NO Westbrook. Russell looks to score first second and thrid then make the pass. Given he did avg around 8 apg, he has the ball in his hands QUITE a bit. 

As for TEague, he’s a good player who is also somewhat unselfish, but just isn’t a true point guard. Dude is going to be dominant this year. Not quite 23-11, but I could definitely see 17-10-2. 

Side note, someone mentioned every team having a young athletic pg with skills, and yet LAL STILL manages to lack this lol. Morris is a nice young pass-first pg, but they still lack that young athletic doberman.

 I definitely think Derrick Rose is a true PG. He looks to set guys up when he has legit scorers around him. He doesn’t have any great shot creators around him, and hasn’t since Ben Gordon left and John Salmons played good after getting dealt to them mid-season. He showed to be a PG then, and he showed it at Memphis with CDR and Joey Dorsey and those guys. I will say this though, he looks to score alot and isn’t a pure playmaker like a Rondo or Chris Paul, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a true PG. I think Rose is unselfish, and when/if Chicago gets more shot creators it will be apparent that he’s a high quality distributor. Right now, he can get in the lane whenever he wants and he has improved his touch and shooting so, he uses it for a team that doesn’t have anyone with near his level of ability to create offense.

Oh, and Jeff Teague is super duper quick and athletic. I don’t understand why the Hawks didn’t play him more, he wasn’t as saavy a playmaker and leader as Mike Bibby or even Kirk Hinrich, and he is a little raw on both ends (he is a super mediocre defender, although he has the tools to be very good on that end), but he can score well and he finds the way to the hoop. He has to work on his jump shot, but he is a really talented scorer and athlete. He will definitely get his chance to be the starting PG next season after how well he played against the Bulls in the playoffs, and he will probably be a double digit scorer, he has alot of upside.
