McDunkinFrance had hoped to have Phoenix Suns sharpshooter Mickael Pietrus in their squad this summer when they attempt to qualify for the London Games but the country’s basketball federation have ruled him out on medical grounds.
All of the players in the French preliminary squad have been given medical examinations at the INSEP in Paris this week, including Pietrus, a 29-year-old swingman who has been hindered by a wrist injury in the past.
The French Basketball Federation said: “Following several medical examinations carried out at the beginning of preparations and after consulting the medical staff of Team France, Mickael Pietrus will not play at EuroBasket 2011 for medical reasons.”

French FlairParticipantHis agent Bill McCandless talk about a problem with a knee which need chirurgical therapy this summer… I don’t know if team France didn’t want to take a risk due to the price of insurances of the NBA players (Parker, Diaw, Batum, Noah & Turiaf will play for Eurobasket… perhaps Seraphin).
We have to consider that Pietrus had lack of motivation concerns in the past, he didn’t play for team France since 2005 and it was not only due to bad injuries. With Batum and Gelabale at the wing, we have enough talent and must choose a role player (defensive one) to complete the wing rotation.
Sorry, but it’s in french : http://www.lequipe.fr/Basket/breves2011/20110715_111225_un-forfait-et-des-questions.html
