European BallerParticipantKostas Papanikolaou 6-8 225 SF 1990
Kostas Sloukas 6-6 210 PG/SG 1990
Vangelis Mantzaris 6-5 210 PG/SG 1990
These three Greek talents were all called to the tryouts for the national team at teh EuroBasket 2011 in Lithuania. Is there a reason why none of them are in the 2012 mock draft? They are good enough to be able to tryout for one of the probably top 3 national teams in the world………….but can’t even get listed on a second round mock draft?
Oh yeah, and Sloukas was one of the best point guards in Greek A1 and Eurocup last year also. He was regularly outplaying guys that have played in the NBA all season long. And he can’t even get on a second round mock? Seriously? The guy is way better than Rubio – that is for sure.

European BallerParticipantIt does not explain it though. Kostas Papanikolaou was MVP of the under 20 European championship 2 years ago for example. It’s not like these players just broke on the scene.
Evangelos Mantzaris and Kostas Sloukas were both starting point guards this year in the Greek League. Considering they would have been NCAA juniors…………….and were doing that, you would think they would already be listed in a mock.
Not even to mention Nikos Pappas that has been the best player basically of every tournament in the youth stages and is never even mentioned on the mocks. It continues to be proven that American NBA related sites have some kind of built in bias against Greek players.
I guarantee you that is Mantzaris or Sloukas were Spanish, Croatian, Serbian, Lithuanian, French, American, etc. – they would be on the 2012 mock draft.
How many junior point guards in NCAA do you think can start in the Greek League? Or how many can start also in Eurocup like Sloukas did? Do you realize that Nick Calathes was complete crap of a player for the first 1 and 3/4 years he was in Greece?
His first year in Greece, would have been the same age that Sloukas was just at this year (college junior age) and I can assure you that Sloukas in the same age was like twice the player Calathes was. The only logical explanation is a bias against Greek players.

smithers3551ParticipantWho really cares, the truth is there haven’t being alot of dominant Greek players, so to expect these three to be worth drafting is questionable

JoeWolf1You are seriously still doing this? No one in America has a Greek bias, it’s not even a thing! there are plenty of ignorant people with their predjudices, but there isn’t a big antil Greek sentiment in the US at all, especially not someone running an NBA draft site. The draft is almost a year away and if the players you mentioned look like they are going to be coming over then they’ll be on the mock draft, but if it looks like they are going to stay in Europe for 4 or 5 more years then no one is going to put them on a 2012 Mock Draft.
The NBA draft isn’t a worldwide ranking of players, it’s a realistic list of what players are going to be coming out of college or coming over from Euroleague in the draft, and how they project as NBA players, which is a very different type of basketball thank Euroleague. You must be bored if you’re still doing this kind of stuff, ranting about some sort of Greek bias and how the NBA and scouts have something against your country.

European BallerParticipantThey obviously do. You have a top 3 worldwide national team and yet you cannot get a single NBA scout to even look at a Greek player. It is pretty damn obvious.

JoeWolf1Kostas Papanikolaou will get drafted when he does decide to come over, but again, scouts and NBA draft sites arent going to put guys on the 2012 mock unless they actually think they are coming over this season. The draft is almost a year away and if you can’t realize this and come to the conclusion that Greek basketball players are being discriminated against then I don’t know what to tell you other than you’re wrong.
