McDunkin(I do suggest reading the whole article)
“The perception game, the media game, is a game that the players are going to have to win,” Thomas said by telephone Thursday, hours before the start of the NBA lockout. “LeBron isn’t that guy, but he was portrayed as that kind of person. We all say things in the heat of the battle sometimes we wish we didn’t. It’s unfortunate it was taken the way it was.
“But, bottom line, they need to win the perception game this time because they didn’t win that game in 1999.”
“David favorite quote is, ‘Perception is reality,’ ” Thomas said of the NBA commissioner. “Perception is reality but it’s not always accurate. You can create a false reality of a player, person, a team and business, and people will make decisions off that false reality created. And they’ll make inaccurate decisions.”
Thomas went further. “Perceptions of the African American male stereotypes come into play, perceptions that are not accurate. Every kid doesn’t want to grow up to be an athlete, an NBA player. There are more educated African Americans than there are just rappers, ballplayers and entertainers — the whole oversecksed, got-to-be-with-a-lot-of-women stereotype you see in videos and whatnot.
“Anyone that has spent time around the NBA knows there are more Tim Duncans than there are Marburys. When I played, a lot of people used Charles Barkley to represent the way we played and lived — hanging out late, drinking, doing whatever he wanted after a game. That’s why he never became a champion because he didn’t make the sacrifice a lot of NBA players made with their bodies to win a championship."
“The bigger point is, that didn’t represent everyone in the league but a lot of people came to believe that.”

Thats a major diss man.. But I think there are some champs that have done that too so you can’t put the whole blame of why he didn’t a ring because of hanging out late, drinking, and doing whatever he wanted after a game.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThis isn’t the first time Barkley has been dissed. Pippen dissed him too a while back when they were teammates on the Rockets. Questioned his work ethic and said he didn’t care about winning.
This was a good read though. Perception and winning the PR battle is real important. I bet Fisher and Hunter wish they had that remote from the movie Click.. They’d mute LeBron until this lockout was resolved.

IndianaBasketballParticipantRodman wasn’t the best player on his team though. A guy named MJ was. And then he was followed by Pippen.
Superstar players who are the best players/leaders on a team don’t do that.

NJHooper95ParticipantRodman was not the leader, but he was very instrumental in those championship runs. The best rebounder in the league, a high basketball IQ, and a great post defender. Im not sure if bulls win without him. I disagree with Isiah on this. Magic Johnson was also a late nite guys, with plenty of WOMEN after games, but he still came to play.
Barkley not having a title has nothing to do with his life style. The man was a 20pt 10reb career guy at 6’4 playing power forward. We havent seen a player like hims since. Barkley doesnt have a title because ran into Michael Jeffrey Jordan in his prime, Just like Malone, Stocton, Kemp, Ewing, Miller and others.

llperezi think as the game grows we see less and less partying. More people competing for more money causes guys to get their act together a little more or be out of the league or the bigger deal. The 80’s were notorious for hard partying lifestyles.

BigChamp12Participanti agree with Indiana! and Kanye is not saying that Rodman was irrevelant, he’s saying Rodman is irrelevant to this topic. Charles was the man who carried his time and the one solely responsoble for winning games. It was things that they expected from him more than they expected from just an instrumental part of the team. Yea Isaiah took a major shot at Charles, but it definitely has some realness to it
